Just putting the the word out. Super track, well prepped, over 100 years of motorcycle racing at the Rooks County Free Fair. Lots of bigtime pros will be racing on their way home from the Sturgis, SD AMA races. If I can get my forks fixed in time, I'm going to race it for the first time too...

Despite that... Frank Hardman is a great guy. Fast racer, great promoter, and bike shop owner. Does a good job at Sturgis too. He's #57x on the holeshot at Peoria this year.

Turned out to be a fantastic time and a HUGE track with a great rider turnout. A big 1/2 mile (more like 5/8ths) and it was all I could do to get my 250 to finish the main on the first day. After 2 laps of practice I was stumbling real bad and pulled into the pits, had balls of metal on my spark plug. Changed fuel, after 2nd practice had the same thing. Went up two sizes on the main jet and put in a BP8ES instead of a 7, and the heat race went ok, though now that the bike ran like stink I realized that I didn't have quite enough gearing. Had my tallest gearing on and still needed more. I probably wouldn't have ran my 250 so hard if Chuck Ruiz hadn't seized his Bultaco, guaranteeing me a 3rd place if I finished the main... The things a guy will do for a plastic plaque!

Anyway, it was a great time and I would recommend it to anyone just to go watch the races there. Highlights? Pitting between Jared Mees and Sammy Sweet, a couple of top level pro's. Surviving the terrible storm that came up in the night, tents and ez-ups were flying through the air. Watching Mark Gifford on that 8-valve Triumph smoke the field in the twins class, then watching in disbelief as he got hunted down and passed by a fast vintage XR600 in the open class. Checking out some awesome race bikes, vintage and modern. Here's a couple pics, check out the Ducati 1000cc.
