what an interesting structure.

i went to google on the history of this house and the people who lived in it.

fascinating.

when that was built some of my family were living in these:

i have no idea what i'm doing.

Although not a BSA owner yet I am trying to find out what model of BSA my grandfather is sitting on - attached photo, so I can look for and hopefully purchase one just like his. So far I think it's something like a B30-3 although the headlamp does look like an old carbide lamp with the carbide canister near the back wheel, all pictures I've looked at for BSA's around this time show a more rounded headlamp, electrical I'd say.

The tank looks painted not chrome.

It doesn't look like an overhead cam engine.

The rear light looks like it protrudes off the number plate, not really part of the plate, more like a bolt on extra.

The number plate doesn't exist on the DVLA's website so presumably the bike is scrapped or exported.

Can anyone help me narrow down what model it is?

Many thanks

Chris

Do these still come up for sale, ones in need of restoring? I'd imaging restored ones are 10-15k.

thanks

Probably more likely to find one in the UK then anywhere else. So you have a chance then. Sometimes it cost more to restore one then to buy one already done. So weigh all the options.

Suggest that you join the VMCC (Vintage Motor Cycle Club)--it is based in Burton on Trent.
As a member you get a monthly magazine which contains classified ads.
Look in there and/or place a wanted ad.
Being in UK you are in the right place to get one of these.

My nearly finished 1968 b44 .Bought it 2 months ago and have rebuilt/replaced just about everything since .

Still needs the correct tail light , which i've now sourced , and a chain guard , which i'm still hunting for . This is my first total rebuild but have been working with motorcycles all my life . Ive really enjoyed it and will definitely be doing it again . Probably a twin next .

Nice ducati2242.... That was a quick rebuild. You must be retired.... took me that long just to put my motor (mostly) back together. I hope my 66 Victor looks as good as yours when Im done.

1963 BSA Super Rocket originally ordered and sold by Hap Alzina in California, so it is in the West Coast style. I tried to like the Cowhorns but have since installed UK style bars. Other than that it seems decent, engine tests 98% on leakdown, so perhaps the 532 miles shown on the working odometer is distance from rebuild.
Or it might just be distance from rebuild of the speedo!
Either way, no smoke, good compression and.........almost can't believe it....it doesn't wet sump even after two months of sitting!
Glen

Attached are pictures of my '66 Spitfire Special back together again after a conversion to Clubman trim and a top end overhaul. Kenneth Rowark, a frequent forum contributor, supplied the Rearset Kit along with some handmade "hard-to-find" pieces and the top end was rebuilt with the help of Ed at E & V Engineering. I cannot say enough good things about both of these men.

That is one beautiful BSA you have there. I have first dibs one one and a Clubman. Just waiting for the rest of my ducks to get in line. Hoping by next summer or the one after. Need to move first so I have space for all the bikes, picking up 6 BSAs next month.

I am just finishing up my 1970 Lightning project. It is a a65LA 7xxx Y bike, and I spent three days at the CA DMV and CHP getting the title, VIN, and registration created. It has been out of the system for 40+ years, and with the help of a BSA service bulletin, I was able to prove it was not a 1967, and indeed a 1970. It was an experience and I would like to thank the CA DMV/CHP employees for making it happen.
Runs like a top, usually fires off first kick.
Pazon ignition, sealed bearings, new wire harness, seals, the proper paint, lots of hardware from across the pond.

My 1970 BSA Lightning

New stainless steel exhaust, with silencers from Cone Engineering California. Also new Keihin PWK Carbs, I'm very pleased with both, and the bike is going well. (maybe shouldn't say things like that a tempt fate!)

Real nice. I see your kick starter hits the foot peg too. I also had to grind clearance to keep the starter from hanging up on the peg.

The OIF was given a quadrant with a longer shaft and used the triumph kickstart lever ... it stops you having this problem. Because of coffee pin location on the kick starts the cutaways on the shafts are matched to the lever (i.e. They are not interchangeable) however you can fit both parts to any year of A65.

If it helps NOS OIF type quadrants are easily found and much cheaper than the pre OIF type.

Thanks for the information. I guess when you buy a Bitsa you never know what you are getting.
