Well folks...everything's in place for the 2006 Three State Mountain Ride.

Ride attendees have completely filled the Blowing Rock Inn..even the cabins out back. :bigt:

We finally found a place for our Friday night dinner and even though it wasn't our first pick we think it will work out just fine. This will be a good time to meet the other riders and for you newcomers to ask as many questions as you want so you'll know what's comming up Saturday.

Lunch Saturday will still be at the Main Street Cafe in Mountain City TN. But this time we will be using a limited menu to try to speed things up.

Dinner Saturday night will be a catered BBQ and if the weather holds out it will be served on the lawn in front of the Blowing Rock Inn. (Well actually we'll have tables and chairs on the lawn wink ) EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO JOIN US FOR DINNER!!!!!!

Folks you'll have to bear with Alan and I. This year's ride will probably be our biggest and things might get bogged down a little (like only one restroom at most stops) We're going to take a hard look at the numbers/problems and will make changes as needed for next year. (like a couple of porta johns in the parking lot at the lunch break???). As it stands right now we could have as many as 50 riders. I know that doesn't sound like a lot to some of you but for a couple of country boys it's overwhelming at that kind of support. Especialy when you think that this all started a few years back with just three of us meeting for lunch. [Linked Image]
(Pictured L-R, Lannis and Alan, Gordon's taking the picture)

Okay enough for now, PLEASE have a safe trip and we'll see you Friday. smile

Your friends in NC...Gordon and Alan

Mike....I think we have everything covered. The fact that your willing to drive all the way up from Florida every year is doing enough as far as I'm concerned. :bigt:

(Side note to Lannis)I plan on riding the loaner 1967 B44VR up Friday night and then deliver it to you on Saturday. :bigt:

Folks...especially the newcomers. This is a ride not a bike show. The weather can get nasty so bring PLENTY of gear. There's room in the chase truck if you don't want to carry your gear, no problem there. But PLEASE bring enough to keep you warm and dry. Let us know Friday night or Saturday if you've left something behind, we have some extra gear we'd be happy to loan ya.

Take care.....see ya this weekend....your friends in NC Gordon and Alan :bigt:

I notice these zips start with "376" and "286". Does that mean we have to run old AMAL carburetors?

Alan, et al...I imagine the rooms are all gone now but be sure to mention you are with the 3 State Ride group. When I called, there were no vacancies UNTIL I mentioned I was with the group, and the clerk said "oh, I still have some rooms for you guys" ...so it's worth a try...
Also, I have a bro thats with the Tri-Cities RAT's, and they have me on their email list AND, they are going to be riding Sat. AND try to meet us on our ride. The bathrooms will be REAL popular on the rest stops. Sounds like a real ball...looking forward to meeting youse guys.

Great pic.
Looks like 8-10 of us Rats will be riding in.
Don't worry about us. It's our backyard.
One of the guys said "heck with eatin, we're
admiring the bikes." Any way, I'll be on my Triumph Tiger..my new one ...I cut my throttle cable on the 68 Tiger trying to get it out of a sticking slide problem. New one on order.

Oh good, you guys have somebody to pick on. Kewel beans, I'm up for that. Reminds me of my IPSIC days, "fight crime, shoot back". Whatever, I'll be glad to see and ride with all you hooligans. Richrd, I'm not bringing the B50, so DWR will be able to hear his bike run, unless he is behind me at least two bikes, and nobody should see the contact patch area of my rear tire unless we encounter some moron who don't know the right of way. Nobody did help push start me. Neither the Norton or the B50. They all stood around suggesting stuff but No push. If you are coming thru Friday I'm dragging my trailer and would welcome the company. Cell is 859-912-1922

I won't need any push starts, Gordon don't ask me to lead the slow guys, and everybody have a safe trip to and from this event.

Hey Mikie, I'm an open target, shoot me...

I am really looking forward to this, Alex, will there be cooler diving?

Drive safe and see you there guys. It's all about the people...

Hey Ron, I've got something that will drownd out the B50! really! I put a set of those old trumpet styled up-swept "mufflers"??? on the racer project the other day. I was shaking the dust off peoples windows 8 blocks away!!! The wife really frowned on that one, makes the "Boy's" 441 sound like a field mouse with a cough! No street ridin' with those puppies. Will have to put the Triumph stockers on for that.
Been as busy as a one armed paper hanger lately, so I'll probabally trailer up Sat. morning. I'm hoping to ride it (hung some "temp" lights on it) it could use some break in and loostening up. If not, the Rocket 3 is always "ready to rumble"! The new disc brake and big tank are just the ticket for the 3 State.
See youse guys there!

Group,

Well I guess we are as ready as we can be for “The Ride”. One minor change: Friday night’s dinner has been moved to Ichabod's. Their address is: 8062 Valley Blvd. It is located on the 321 by-pass right before you get to Woodland's. The reservation is under the Blowing Rock Inn for 5:30 PM -7 PM. If you want to go over with the group we will leave the Blowing Rock Inn about 5:15 PM.

Guess thats it (Well if you don’t count the afternoon snack stop at McDonalds) - just for Lannis. It's a joke, It's a joke.....

Couple of reminders:

Gas up prior to showing up Saturday morning.

Bring warm clothing, temps probably 45 to 55 degrees.

Bring rain gear: If we all bring it –maybe we won’t need it.

I should be at the Blowing Rock Inn about noon on Friday.

Email me if you have any questions.

I am so ready…….

Alan – (you can leave now Richrd).

Alan yes I have a question? Any chance of getting me a cheap flight so I can join y'all? Heathrow to Dulles should do it, I know a Mc Donalds loving Hill Billy that might loan me a bike. I'll bring my wet gear thus helping the rain to stay away :bigt: And I'm sure the BSAOC UK West Yorkshire branch won't mind me missing out on their camp this weekend?

I'd be on my best behaviour, and I'd tip everyone laugh
All I need is a cheap plane ticket, surely SOMEONE out there is a pilot who can help? I don't mind making the tea for the flight help

Kent,

Well there is always John Trevolta or Tom Cruise, they have their own planes, nothing to do and are both wierd enough to probably join our group. Drop them an email and explain your plight.

Drop me an email if they agree and I'll russle up a bike for your and the pilot. I was leafing through a magazine in the doctors office the other day and saw a picture of Cruise on a Triumph. Don't know if he can ride but he can at least sit on one.

We'll post pictures - next best thing to being there.

Hey Alan,
I'm coming up 321 to blowing rock from the south. Is 321 a two lane or 4 lane road?

Tom,

This isn't the answer you are looking for: I think you are going to find that it is both. I haven't driven the whole route that you will but I know there are sections of two lane and four lane. It's a pretty good road, well and sort of your only choice. You could cut up early and pick up 421 but it's no better and will probably have more traffic on it.

Blowing Rock is one of those places that the locals say "you can't get there from here". Just take your time and enjoy the trip.

Tom...Hwy 321 is mostly four lane until you get to the foot of the mountains. Then it turns into two lanes that are UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!!!! At this time of year you'll never know how it's going to be....might get straight through or you might have to wait a bit.

A sure bet is HWY 421.....a little bit farther North on I-77...it's 4 lanes all the way from I-77 to Boone. You can get on the Parkway (head South)and it will take you over to Blowing Rock (look for the signs)

Have a safe trip......see ya Friday...Gordon and Alan.

I hear you Richrd, I'll be heading out Friday morning, I-75 to Lexington to I-64 to SR-402 into Pikeville. SR-460 down to Tennesse.

Hope to get the in under 6 hours.

Bringing lots of rain gear first to fend off the rain and second if it doesn't work...

Just a note. Trail Days will be going on in Damascus for hikers. Parades and such.
If ya need an alternate turn or something, let me know. There are four scenic ways into Shady Valley from the cafe.

Dennis....thanks for the heads up.

Trail days moved up a week just like us. We thought we'd get out of it by doing so but they moved theirs anyway. We have it timed so we arrive at or near the end of the parade....or that's the way we "try" to do it. There's no way we're going to miss a chance to have our group photo in front of the "ridge" outside of town....been doing it too long to change now.

Alan and I went as far as meeting with the local police to see if they could help us get through town....no help there.

I did sneek the Norton across the creeper's bridge one weekend...just to see if that would work... wink that was a hoot.

I would like to talk to you about that "other" place to eat near the lake???.....see ya Saturday.
