I have been gathering pieces a 1950 Bullet for quite some time . Last winter I began to rough assemble the parts onto the frame . I used a bare motor and tranny to sit in the frame to keep things together . Decided on the weekend to disassemble the original motor to get it cleaned up and ready to install once the frame has been painted . I cannot get the oil pump worm loose . There is no nut on back of worm to get a wrwnch on . I need the worm off so as to get the pinion gear off , so as to remove the crank assembly . I checked out a couple parts books . The 1949 one shows the timing shaft as a one piece unit . The 1961 shows as a removeable worm and pinion .
This is my first Bullet teardown . Is there a special trick to this job . Thanks John Ruff

I've heard that the 50 through 52 G models had a one piece worm/pinion but I'm stumped on how it goes on and comes off. Hitchcocks has one of those cranks for sale in there used parts section but the picture is too small to tell for sure. I hope someone else that frequents this site can tell you, or you might have to e-mail Hitchcock's for the answer. My guess is that it is pressed on with a key but a guess like that can cost you if not correct.

Kerby Thanks for the info . So I wonder how everything was put together in the first place . Can not get at the pin from the crank side , can not get the pinion gear thru the bushing . It`s a bit of a stumper . It has to be either pressed on or threaded (left hand) I will try a couple e-mails . John
