Is the spark arrestor used on the 73-74 TR5T's the same as used on the 73 twin muffler BSA B50MX's? vr Cooper

Hi Cooper:

You might try asking Doug your question - he runs this site:

http://www.tr5t.net/

There's about as much info there as anywhere about this particular model... and if anybody could help you with your question, it would probably be Doug.

HTH..
Cheers,
-Terry

Thanks for the reply. Been on TR5T.net - no luck in finding any info. No luck at B50.org either. FWIW - J&R Krizman made the original spark arrestors for the TR5T - model KZ500. J&R seems to have gone out of business early 2000's. Seems to have liscened their name/engineering to Honda, Kawi and others. The B50MX (1973) that I just acquired has one of the original two exhaust cans on it - complete with a J&R Krizman model 500A. About 10 inches long with the first 3.5 tapered. Sticks out of the exhaust can about 6 inches. Queeng had a set of B50MX cans for sale with the arresters in place - but they only stuck out 2 inches. Don't know if they are original. Need someone (Tonup - Trumpetloon) who has an original to check the model number and measurements. If anyone out there has the 73 B50mx or 74 TR5MX with the original spark arrestors I'd appreciate the same info. Whew - way to much typing.

regards Cooper

Cooper... I am sorry but I do not have an original spark arrestor. My bike is running a set of (I think) 1968 T100C pipes and a pair of aftermarket shorty slash cut mufflers. FWIW, I saw a NOS TR5T muffler awhile back on eBay and the spark arrestor definitely did not stick out 6 inches! Have you contacted greg at classiccyclespares.com about the possibility of finding one? They are tough to get ahold of but have an amazing inventory! Ditto Mitch Klempf at (507) 374 2222. Mitch is quite knowledgeable and will provide straight answers... provided you are willing to call back on successive days with reminders that you are quite serious about needing these parts. I am sure he gets his share of dreamers! I know this one item has been a sticking point for you, do not give up the search... there must surely be some out there somewhere!

You might want to try British Cycle Supply. I got a price for a new one a couple of months ago; however, it was for a TR5T. They should know the difference. Do you need the part #?
