Into the distance a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast how
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Looks like the pits are roomy. Is there an empty post at Bonneville were that sign came from, in last picture.

there were vast amounts of space in th epits-- huge empty areas for parking giant bombers. we tend to go over to the edges so we can spread out without noise. very nice there.

that was jesse the safety guy TOG welding my tanks back on after they broke off on day three or so. he lives 10 minutes away and had us done in an hour, and we were racing again an hour after that.

dunno where he stole the bonneville sign. i wasn't there.

that old hand-shift indian was a 1938, with an original booze-fighters logo.

i used to live in hollister, so the booze fighters are a soft spot for me.

Loring not that many years ago was a place of supreme power..The largest SAC air base,.It was the home to dozens of B-52 bombers ,each carrying multiple thermonuclear bombs that could vaporize civilization..

The base is named after Charles Loring, an Air Force pilot of WW2 and Korean War who crashed his crippled jet fighter into an enemy position rather than bail out ...

RE: Jesse welding your gas tank bracket

Kevin,
I see you holding a theoretically empty gas tank (read "bomb") just a few feet from where Jesse is TIG welding. Personally, I don't like to get "empty" gas tanks in the same room as my welder. Although, I have welded gas tanks after thoroughly purging them with exhaust fumes from a running motor, and then rinsing them out with water followed by compressed air. There are probably safer ways to do this.

Anybody have an alternative foolproof way of purging an empty gas tank?

Tom

I have welded/brazed quite a few bike fuel tanks...I use a shop vacuum on "blow" to air out the tank for about 15 minutes. Then a slosh with lacquer thinner, then another blow out with the shop vacuum...Then I do a smell test....Depending on the situation, I tape a lit torch on the end of a 10 foot length of conduit and wave it over the fuel cap opening....

I do the same. Wash out really good a few times with soapy water and run exhaust fumes through for about 10min, it's still a little nerve racking when I go to fire up the TIG arc even after the purge of inert gas.

no, both tanks were full of gasoline. i just held them up out of the way and closed my eyes.

i am indeed a dangerous sort of person to work with. but you know, i ride a 52-year old motocycle at 128 mph too. i don't suppose that's safe either. when i'm not in a hurry, i flush the tanks with water and call it good. i haven't died yet, but still might.

lol.

i understand your common sense. i just don't have any anymore.

Ivor Cutler was a bit of a cult, he was the bus driver on the Beatles " magical mystery tour " film,
he was a Scot, but moved to London in the 60s. For a load of laughs check out his "Life in a Scots sitting room " series of sketches. A very droll comedian.
