Running from demons in WNY
The Triumph top fuel drag racer of the 60's and 70's has died. He beat the best and his dual engine nitro fueled Triumphs were always a thrill to watch.
He was always cool, check his face in this photo riding sideways and smoking the tire.

He is looking where he wanted to go. I wish I had said that. RIP.

This is perhaps the most seen photo of Murray. Taken by a spectator around 1971...
I believe he used Pre unit cases, Chatman 800 cc cylinders, serious percentages of nitromethane and alcohol fuel, about 90-100 hp per engine without superchargers.

Yes, a most famous and much admired photo amongst vintage drag race fans! When I first saw the pic some years ago, I thought it must have been taken before the introduction of VHT TrackBite.
Mr Google reports VHT was introduced in 1972
With perfect traction, times would have dropped accordingly but at the "expense" of spectacular pics like this one. So I think it's great that Murray got to WOW us all with a pic worthy of a poster!

Boris was always a super nice guy each time I was lucky enough to talk to him. A great rider and builder. At bonniville he crashed the Gulf Norton Steamliner at 240mph and then helped repair it .He was back in the saddle again in two hours. Nerves of steel.
He told me all about his set up for the drag bike. 90% nitro 10% methanol. 750 Chaitland cylinders. He also said the Lucas magnetos would get recharged every 4 races. He set the points gap at.004.
One cool cat for sure.
Stay in the gas Boris. Godspeed
