I have progressives on my ole Girl but after a ride through the Rockies for 300 odd miles my ass and back tell me I need something a bit better on the rear . Ohlins would be the ticket but want to ask here what model would work the best without having to hack stuff up too much .
Do they make Ohlins for twin shock machines ? They certainly make good stuff for current hyperbikes... Most shocks for Commandos are performance oriented, being soft and comfortable may be a tough ask ?
If your existing shocks are bottoming out, maybe they just need stronger springs ? Nortons offered different rates, although they were rarely fitted ? Should still be available, somewhere.
Ikon shocks are highly regarded in this part of the world. The old Koni shocks, with a new label... Hopethishelps.
Perhaps we should also have commented that long term bike comfort also involves the seat and the handlebars and maybe footpegs.
If the shocks aren't bottoming out and giving a tough ride, maybe your seat needs more padding ? Some of those sexy low single seats are a little short on long term comfort ?
And Norton flat handlebars were popular for a reason ? Leaning you forward into the airflow takes some of the upright seating position out of the ride. More rearset footpegs also can make for more comfort on a long ride, having them too far forward also makes for a too upright position.
maybe just a windshield is required, to take away some of the airblast ?
I can't get pics to reveal themselves tonight so here is a link to the ole girl with a Dakar screen and Rox Raisers I put on for a CA trip of 4000 miles , it was pretty good and even the Corbin felt OK.
There are plenty of Ohlins for twin shock bikes available I was just hoping someone here had done it and had a part number for one that worked well .
I have Dave at STM Suspension on the job also so we should come up with something , he is the Guru around here for pretty much anything except he hasn't done a Norton .
We are going to make something work just a matter of what .
I had Koni's on a BSA Firebird when I was back in the old country and liked them .
Cheers for the input , not much of a boyracer any more and comfort becomes a controlling factor for extended trips of many thousands of miles .

BTW, the Norton racebike at the IoM TT just recently apparently had Ohlins suspension fitted, front and rear. Electrically adjustable even - they would be $megabucks$. Rather experimental beastie all round, it seems...
