1969 “USA Federal Safety Standards” decal?

1969 “USA Federal Safety Standards” decal? - 01/20/11 1:43 am

Saw this on an Ebay bike for sale, and wondered if it is correct on a 1969 BSA?

Can’t tell from picture where it went. Old advertisements don’t show it and the shop manual only shows a “Made in England” decal on front frame right side….. maybe because this decal is US specific. I’m guessing right front frame side?

Found that Brit Cycle actually sells it.

Its correct and on a B44 went on the reinforcing plate behind the headstock on the left hand side. There is a 70 version where the frame number was included and that is white on black.

The transfer/decal section of the UK BSAOC Members Handbook shows the same item but with the date being 1st. January 1971.

It's decal number 065 and the description states that they were mounted on the headstock of '69 to '72 export models. I presume that this means US export models.

At least this one is readily available.

Thanks for the input gentlemen.

Also, meant to mention for an A65 model.
Looks like the reinforcing plate behind the headstock is the place for it.

..for future reference……

Today, I found an original 1969(maybe 70) A65 carcass sitting in the racks of a local bike shop, and I noticed it still had the decals on the frame.

The safety standard decal was on the right side. You can just barely make out the words “B.S.A” on the top line and “federal” on another. The “Made in England” decal was on the left side. Don’t know if they all left the factory this way, but this one did.
