Wassell Vape Experience?

Wassell Vape Experience? - 06/07/19 10:42 pm

Hi All,

New to this forum, have browsed here for a while and finally made a account. Wanted to ask a question regarding the Wassel VAPE ignitions I'm seeing being sold. I noticed there isn't much info or any reviews on this unit so I thought I would start a thread where current users can chime in? I'm planning on upgrading to EL soon and would like a little info on this kit before I make a decision.

So with that said are there any Wassell Vape guys here? Whats your opinion on this unit? Is it reliable and well made? Any voltage issues?Would you buy another or go with another EL unit?

Thanks in advance

It's a good unit. Plenty of blokes using them.

Wassell Vape? Sort of like Lucas smoke, but less substantial and dissipates faster. I wonder if it you can get strawberry flavor? laughing

Actually Peter, Vape are a fair size electronic manufacturer specialising in automotive gear amongst other stuff.
They make ECU's etc for several car makers.

It works well on my 650 twin.

I had no idea Wassell had got into the vaping market. Expect bits falling off and sticking in your throat!

Despite being sold by Wassell the VAPE ignition is a professionally built item. The manufacturer is a well known European company been in the business for decades. Installed one 7 yrs ago and nothing to blame since.

Most of us has learned to swear at Wassel products, and for a reason. I guess it doesn't mean everything is rubbish though, and the Vape unit is getting good reviews.
I can't however recommend their "Lucas" wiring harnesses, I fitted one to a 79 T140E and while it looked great but didn't fit right. Wrong connections, connections missing including the RITA plug, brown/blue cross section too small, and only one big brown/blue spade. Yes I ordered the correct item according to the description. Took me ages to adapt everything.
There was a thread on Ratnet on this, wish I had seen it before I bought the POS.

But I also bought a Wassel Evolution last year, and that was actually a quality item, somewhat to my surprise.

Perhaps the variations in Wassel quality are due to the sub-contractors making stuff for them?

Yes, Wassel aren't manufacturers as such, as I understand it. I guess buying cheap s**t to sell as OEM (as in the case of "Lucas") gives them great margins, at least in the short run...

It behaves like an analogue Boyer; in that you set the fully advanced timing by strobe at 5,000 rpm.

Mine shows no sensitivity to low battery voltage or propensity to kick back. The black box is so small that it could just about be tied into the wiring harness, rather than mounted to the frame.

Car manufacturers often design the electronic parts and sent out the requests for prices for a production run from the various companies making automotive electronic stuff...Who actually makes Pazon stuff? I bought a Pazon coil a few years ago and it looked exaclry the same as inexpensive Japanese 4 cylinder coils that are made in China...

Don't they (Wassell) have an oil pump for A65? Anyone tried one?
I might be trying it as it is cast iron.

I think I’ve heard mixed reports. Ask or search on the BSA board.

Vape, http://www.vape.cz/en/info-o-firme/

People like boyer and pazon would probably dream of having facilities like this.

Thanks to Wassels well earned and apt reputation for selling Shite, the last thing I would trust them with is an oil pump. Not unless I could trace it back to a quality manufacturer and was unable to buy direct. My guess is Wassel talk manufacturers into supplying them by tempting them with big sales figures, then send the first batch off to China to be copied at half the price and a third of the quality.

Doesn’t matter what it’s made from, it’s how well it’s machined that detmines how good it is. A lot of people knock the Aluminium units from SRM but ask any of those people who have actually used one and the room goes quiet. Sadly people confuse machined from billet aluminium with a pot metal casting (weren’t those early A65 pumps made of Mazak?) people forget that late fork sliders were made from aluminium without the use of bushes, japs had cam shafts running directly on aluminium heads, aluminium con-rods can be ran without small end bushes. It’s a fantastic material providing the job has been done properly.
Not saying the new wassel pump will be crap, but buying it just because it’s cast iron is a poor way to look at it.

As for the Vape I’ve only heard good reports.... but still, I’ve only ever bought shite that’s got a wassel name on it so it won’t get my purchase and I’ll just have to stick with my trust Pazon surefire wink

I would normally avoid Wassell sh*te like the plague based on past experiences. But VAPE is a quality supplier and as Wassell are on on-seller in this case you get a good item.

I put one on a B25 and I am very happy with it. I second the positive aspects commented on by others.

I'm about to adapt one for a non-Brit single I was so impressed. smile smile

Wow that's a good to hear. Any experience with the Pazon sure fire? I'm also considering that. I am wondering how these two systems compare? I do know Pazon has a very good warranty, can't seem to find wassell's.

I would avoid anything with the wassel name like the plague. Even if they were free.

While I understand your sentiments, and even share them, I'd say it can be foolish to dismiss their EI kit out of hand, with so many positive testaments in their favor.
It's not like Wassel would ask Vape to make them a sub standard EI to maintain their reputation as purveyors of sh**e. grin
And if they did, would Vape comply? Hardly...

Same can be said for the original manufacturer, BSA.
