Ugliest t150v ever?

Ugliest t150v ever? - 06/16/17 10:04 pm

So.. I've got this trident someone went way out of the way to make it a Harley ..I have it on San Diego craigslist. It was well done but horribly ugly ..dual headlights roadking bars and switches sporty tank.. ace of spades.. lol... here's my question.... just start tearing it apart if it's ugly? Something about an ass for every seat?

Re: Ugliest t150v ever? - 06/16/17 10:43 pm

Part it out. The Trident motor is worth something to the Triumph guys, and the chopper stuff will always go for something to the chopper dudes, especially if it's perceived as "old skool" stuff ....

I was expecting something way worse than that. more like something that could be called an abomination. But, horribly ugly ? I would definitely ditch the dual headlights and the Sportster tank (which actually doesn't look too bad on there) for a stock T150 tank and Lucas headlight. Put the wide Bonneville type bars back on and call it good. Really, aside from the dual headlights, I think it looks pretty cool and I like it a lot.

I agree with John, this bike can be turned into something nice with not much effort.

Box or two of factory Triumph parts will have it looking just perfect.

That Jardine exhaust system will likely fetch some serious money. They sound awesome and make dyno tuned power.

Yep. Put the stock tank, lights, mudguards and instruments back on and you've got a good 'un

The old headlight and tank are thrown into the sale, it says.

Hope it's not one of those notorious Trident mechanical disasters.

Re: Ugliest t150v ever? - 06/17/17 2:12 pm

With "thousands" spent at RPM (and it certainly couldn't be on cosmetics) I'd guess it may be pretty decent mechanically... or was at one point, anyway. Though we don't know if it even runs now. Looks like it could be returned from the Darkside.

Re: Ugliest t150v ever? - 06/17/17 2:44 pm

The original headlight and tank is a big step in the right direction, A couple mudguards wouldn't be too dear, bars are cheap. You'd have a somewhat stock looking bike.

I'd definitely keep the pipe, I have a Hooker 3/1 on mine and after about 4500rpm it starts to howl.

Re: Ugliest t150v ever? - 06/17/17 3:16 pm

If that was cheap in the uk I'd snap it up- especially if the original tinware is there

Or given the current "cafe" scene, get a nice shiny Ali tank, mudguards and NH bars

The forks need a late triumph mudguard bracket that acts as a brace

Re: Ugliest t150v ever? - 06/17/17 3:25 pm

One thing for sure, if RPM built/tuned the engine, and it hasn't been thrashed/abused too much, it's not a bad deal. The cycle itself is basically unmolested.

Guys,

I have been lusting after a Trident for a few years now and when I saw this bike, I knew I had to have it !! I love bone stock bikes and customs just about equally and this bike is right in there. So, I sent larrymondello a PM indicating my desire to buy it and we'll go from here. If it does become mine, rest assured it will re-acquire most of its stock parts but will still maintain a semi custom flair as in keeping it low and custom paint.

shoot, buy it and ride the [***] out of it. looks like it would be fun to run.

life is too short to take things seriously. seriously.

and $2500 is a fucking steal. buy it and make it into whatever you want, and put you extra money in the bank.

i'd pay serious money for the pipes, if the owner would part with them.

Good move Jon, hope you get it! I considered contacting Larry myself. I've bought a few parts from him over the years.
Larry's a good guy, not at all like that sketchy Eddie Haskell.

T150s are great bikes, and that's a good price even if it is fugly. You should have plenty of riding time left this year before it gets too cold, and it only takes a week or so to ship a bike across the US.

$2500 for a triple is a steal indeed, I wish I could buy another triple for such a small amount of money, I lately had a chance o buy one that looked much worse than the one shown here, but the asking price was 4500 Euro, It needed almost everything done, so I passed.

Buy it and stick a hurricane seat tank unit on it

Good luck, Jon. Let us know how it goes. I see a very good buy and with little effort could swap it around several different ways.

Thanks for the added enthusiasm to mine ! I have been in contact with "larryondello" and am working out the details on purchasing this Trident. Biggest hurdle will be getting it to Vermont. I know I can get a shipper but might just fly out, get a rental van and take a nice road trip and see some of the country that I haven't seen yet. We'll see !

I agree, this bike could be cleaned up in whatever direction you choose. I'd keep the seat and add some rearsets and low bars.
Not nearly as ugly as a stock '69.

Road trip? YES!
Let us know how it all works out, Jon.

It just needs deharleyized and anyone that owns a bike with no mudguards has never rode it the rain.

Looking a t bike pics from the USA, I get the impression that removing front fenders/mudguards is a popular american pastime.

Hope you get it. I always wanted a Triple, a T160 to be precise, but this one would do. Lucky guy.
You know, this isn't bad at all. The handlebars don't seem to fit the styling, but I actually like the lines of the Sporty tanks. Maybe not as much as the curvy Triumph tanks (breadbox, nah.)

A video of this thing running would be nice. The exhaust system really works.
Cheers,
Bill

Twin headlamps are nicely done, any decent triple (more especially one RPM's been into?) goes faster than a single headlamp with 60/55 bulb. Only problem with the zorst is it's too low for proper triple cornering. frown

Tom, I definitely will and can't wait to hear it purr through that exhaust.

Thanks Bill. I have always loved the lines of the Sporty tanks and this bike looks good as is with it but a stock Triumph tank will be in order.

Stuart...I will have to ditch the dual headlights that remind me of bug eyes or Crow from Mystery Science Theater 3000.

**UPDATE**

I am now the proud owner of one 1974 T150V Trident 750 !!! Made the trip in 19 days from California to my door here in Vermont. Now, time to give it a going over, add fluids and battery and crank this bad boy up !

Not even close to ugly.

This one was closer when I found it, and I've seen MUCH worse!

Re: Ugliest t150v ever? - 09/27/17 3:16 pm

Congratulations.
Mine just snapped the clutch pull rod and because of serious oil leaks from the cylinder head area came back to this state :

[Linked Image]

As you can see your bike is mostly stock, just lacks some original parts, like fenders, lights and tank.
Be very careful changing oil, it needs oil added to the primary and oil filter cavity before you start it.
IMHO 73 / 74 are the best years for T150, 5 speed gearbox is a beauty and a disk on the front lets you ride faster.
Still they have lots of details which have to be absolutely correct to make them reliable, every day rider like my BSA
used to be.
We have a thread here about different improvements for those bikes, I think it would be helpful for a new owners
to have a thread about what to do to have them built properly, starting from the crank service.
This information is there in different places, perhaps it could be possible to have it here, everything in one place.

Re: Ugliest t150v ever? - 09/27/17 3:53 pm

PS. My Trident is equipped with Jardin exhaust as well, engine is howling above 4500 rpm with it, but could be purring below 3500 rpm.
Acceleration on lower gears is pretty staggering for 60 hp bike.
