Post a picture and tell us a little of your bike, if you`re in the mood :-)
I`ve been surfing around the net to find nice pics of bsa`s and other bikes and thought it would be cool if you guys would post pics of your bikes here.
I personally enjoy rigid frame bobbers, but nice original resto`s is always encouraging to see too ! Especially during the winter with snow and all. (yeah it`s really cold up here now...)And old racing machines tooo oh yes :-)
So go ahead post a picture !!!
Rocker; This is neither a bobber nor a rigid but a good dependable year round rider.
I bought this 1965 A65 T/R in 1970 in Oklahoma. Even though it was only 5 years old it was a running junker with rusty high pipes and no fenders or mufflers. Strangely it had a brush painted fuel tank. Of course in those days there was a local BSA dealer so it was easy to get pipes, mufflers and the bearings, valves and rings to freshen up the engine. The same dealer painted the tank and side covers. It became my daily transport to work.
Over the years I have had it in various configurations including a few years as a hillclimb machine and the 37 year old paint job is starting to show it's age.
About ten years ago I decided to update the things that really annoyed me so I converted it to 12 volts, Boyer, Tympanium, halogen headlamp, rod damper forks and 7 inch TLS. It came with 18 inch wheels so the small TLS was the easy fit. Easy if you ignore the need for new fork sliders and regrooving of the spindle to match the cap bolts locations.
You can easily spot things wrong for 1965 but the missing bits are things I do not need and the added bits are the ones I like. I do not claim originality; after all it is a rider.
2020 update. Thanks to *** bucket my photo now longer shows very well so I have updated the shots. I have gone back to the original front forks but now with Prew damper rods and have gone back to original headlamp mounts. The original front brake is not as good as the 7" TLS I was using but it is not bad.

This is my '66 A65 'special' (seems the word bobber causes some consternation here sometimes)
I bought the engine and bare frame in late '05, and built the engine first, in my garage. It's stock w/ .020 over pistons, and a cast iron oil pump body from EV engineering. New bearings (Timing side main was at .003, so it went back in.)
The fork is a late Sportster, shortened 2". Rear wheel is H-D as well as brakes and levers. The rear brake linkage I designed and had fabbed by a friend who is a prof welder and drag car fabricator. He built the oil tank as well and welded the rear section.
The fuel tank is a '69, and when I got it had been beaten with a hammer and shot with a small calber gun (talk about a bad day with your BSA...), you can stick your finger in the filler and still feel the inside of the gunshot hole. The battery box is aluminum diamond plate. I wired and painted it in my garage.

The flyin banana , a while back , just chillin and enjoyin the hospitality at the Mid-O BB,COM gathering
This is my 2nd 70 Victor, first one took me back and forth to high school and thru the woods and fields, had this one about 6 months now....was in rough shape, did all the paint, lots of mechanical stuff to sort out - electrics, etc. lots and lots of NOS parts, still a few more to go. The previous owner wrecked his leg trying to kick it over for almost 2 years, he only put 7 miles on it in the time he had it. When the top end was rebuilt awhile back for some reason or another, the valve lifter was left off....well its back on now and I can start it with my left arm (from cold, 2nd kick). Can't wait till Spring.
OK if you insist.........here's my 1960 BSA down by the bay in Connecticut last summer.
down by the bay...
Here's the same bike at a cow pasture in Toronto a couple years ago.
No tipping permitted
Here it is, 69 all origininal except the paint and decals on the sidecovers
here is my 70 A65L
1947 long stroke A7
Also - 1961 A10 Superrocket, roadrace sidecar on methanol.
There sure are some good looking BSAs, dogsrockets looks very mechanical, LJ's M21 very cool. Rocker, it might be cold there but its not here it's definite go to the beach and get wet weather. It's hard to imagine if you jumped in a plane and got out near here you'd just want shorts and a 'T' shirt, and you'd probably be heading for the surf to cool down.
Everyone will be getting sick of seeing my BSA on here, but this is it with some different pipes, so at least I change it now and then.
883cc A65, all alloy motor, 90deg Norton crank, 38mm Mikuni flatslides.
![[Linked Image]](https://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b213/markparker/BSACarbs004.jpg)
Frame is lightweight RGV250 with home made tank seat etc, 35MPH to 100MPH takes 7.65sec using 1st & 2nd gears and no clutch to launch.
A week or so back sizing up the new tank prior to sectioning, same as '92 except for dash, somewhat road grimed/patched wiring and the fact it runs far better. Slow learner but got it dialed I think and time for the next "level". It is in for 2 months for annual overhaul and clean up, when getting to work on it is purpose the cosmetics come second but it leaves very few spots behind. Averaging 7-8000 city traffic rain or shine weather last few years. BMW gaitors modified this year as well. Tank is now about 4.5 gallons 14L? and will be yellow with polished steel knee areas clearcoated.

Splendid Idea Rocker!! Cheers me right up. Does anyone know why some members can post actual pictures, and some , like me, post only addresses? Ken
Ken, how come I have seen photo's of your bike and its windscreen and now you say you cannot post them?
This is Red Molly. She's sporting a '67 five gallon tank, shortie silencers and some extra chrome. Not original but the way I like her.
Cheers,Bob (click on image)
Bob, I use red molly on most of my chassis lubrication (or is that red lithium...?)
I hear she has a nice Vincent '53
Nice bike! I used to run those shortys on my '72 TR6 for many years, without baffles. They started my ears ringing.
(I was running a bit hard at the time, 85-90 MPH for a couple hours on the interstate. Those BMW riders got a new appreciation for an old Triumph, so they told me....I got permanent hearing damage.)
With posting photos, if you are using photobucket, simply copy the 'IMG Code for Forums and bulletin boards' bar near the image and paste it in this window, and the photo will be open in your post, to see if it works and the image is not too big select preview post, (if the image is too big it will expand the view area of the post and we'll have to scroll across to read and look at it which is inconvienient).
BSA B31 1954 still under restoration.
Hey Brian cheers for posting my bike :bigt:
Looks like a few were having the same trouble. Hope to catch up with you guys at the allbrit rally in april for a sherbet
Here is my 1972 A65T. I restored it pretty much to original. A couple-three noticeable exceptions are the polished conical hubs, a MAP oil filter kit, and Boyer ignition.
Some of the things that were done was the frame and all black parts were powdercoated high-gloss black including the cylinder jug. All the chromed parts were re-chromed, and the lettering on the rims was re-etched before they were re-chromed. All cadmium bits were re-plated some 500+ bits. It has a new wire harness, new sealed wheel bearings and a sealed battery installed. The paint (color: Etruscan Bronze - the bike's original color)is a 2 stage paint with 5 coats of clear. The motor was rebuilt, transmission was gone through, and the clutch was replaced along with the counterspocket. It is a great ride. The bike looks, rides, and starts better than when it was new.
My BSAs:
1969 D14 Bushman. Yes, this is the one that nipped up at Brimfield.
1972-ish B50 Gold Star cafe racer. A real treat to ride!
Cheers,
Costa
Not stock,I love her still.
Here is my '68 A65T, lovely running machine.

1966 BSA basket case almost completed.
Heres a pic of my 1949 A7 Star Twin. Shes a good runner.
Hi Ger,
Yes, that's the one: same bike, other colour: I've painted it blak last summer.
At the moment working on the front suspension and front wheel (spokes).

![[Linked Image]](https://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b266/Britbodger/RocketThree.jpg)
Well... Nothing, nowt, nada. Computer problems
I noticed the colour change, GertJan, so I wondered...
I also did work on the spokes of my front wheel, which was out of center between the fork legs.
At this moment I'm fabricating an alternative front brake operated brake light switch.
I will publish it here on Brtit Bike when it's finished.
No rocket science, but a working alternative to the original
[email protected] switch in the front brake cable.
Cheers
Hmm... Now its appeared so might try another one.
![[Linked Image]](https://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b266/Britbodger/NewUlm-1.jpg)
This one was taken at last year's BMOA Yearly rally that was written-up in Walnecks.
Not everyone's cup O'tea I know it having a Triumph engine an'all but I really like it.
I had the frame powder coated, painted the red bits myself using base coat/clear coat urethane system.
Reto-fitted it with 5-speed cluster, 18 inch rear rim Lucas ignition, 3 into 1 and other small mods to make it how I wanted it. Otherwise stock.
Different to the twins but still lovely bike to ride. Absolutely howls on its 3 into 1.
OK, here's me ABSAF Goldie track bike (with thanks to Tunerman Dave Kath and GoldStarRon), soon to be a road bike:

Rick F: Sweet pair of machines for sure! What is the source of the TLS brake on the 56 roadster? It looks like the real deal.
Gordo
Gordo in Comox: thanx for the compliment. Lots of nice machines here - I love looking at other peoples' bikes (especially BSAs). The brake on the roadster is by Phil Pearson in the UK.
http://www.pearsongoldstarbsa.freeserve.co.uk/ Phil's stuff takes a while to get (he makes very small batches), but it's worth it.
Cheers
Rick F
Rick: Thanks for the info. How well does that brake work and what kind of $$$ are we looking at?
I agree Phil makes fine bits, his Susuki clutch conversion is a work of art.
Gordo
Gordo, the brake is a substantial improvement over a SLS, but it still requires a healthy grip. It doesn't seem as powerful as the TLS on my late 60s Triumph, but in fairness I had the Triumph brake "tuned up" by Michael Morse at Vintage Brake, and all I've done with Phil's is shove it in. I think the Triumph brake had wider shoes too. One of these days I may give this one a "tune-up" too, but it is adequate for street riding as it is.
With respect to price, I honestly don't remember and I'd rather let Phil speak to that anyway. There are some things it's better not to dwell on the price of (or leave evidence about where the Mrs can find it) and this is one of them. Let's just say it was more than the price of a good Amal GP with float bowl...
Cheers
Rick F
Rocker,
Thanks for starting this post.
It is a good time of the year to see so many great looking machines.
Very inspiring to get into gear for the spring.
Bsa 23,
I think I've lined up next to you on the grid, do you recognize my outfit and co-pilot?
Cheers,

Rick F: Thanks, spoken like a true collector. I understand where you are coming from and I think I was really afraid to ask Phil for a quote.

You`re welcome. I`m happy that so many people post their bikes here. It`s amazing to see all these cool bikes. Keep em coming
Maybe britbike should start a gallery with members bikes?
rexeverything: What is that on your timing side ? I guess it`s either a supercharger mount and the tubes goes on the other side or an extra dynamo.
LJ: It`ll be interesting to see how your m21 project goes. Good luck.

Britbike has a gallery with members bikes.
In the header of this page there are six menu 'buttons'.
Click on the fourth [or visitors]
In the menu find [bike photo's].
I know some people have sent photo's to Brit Bike (I did) but for some reason this item is not done any more.
Maybe Morgan should reconsider.
The Lightning cafe was lonely, so I had to add the Thunderbolt...these bikes are addictive, aren't they.
Jesus, I can't believe I actually posted a photo. Only took about 5 years! This is one of my favorite bikes, 1966. Put it up on my bench yesterday- I'm going to change front sprocket from 18 to 20 tooth.
Hey Redman,
Could you give us some details on the front end. I would love to see a video clip of you doing a stoppie on your Lightning.

I think you are copying the URL when you have selected the picture in photobucket. This is not the correct method to do it. Go to the page where you see all of the thumbnails of the pictures and select the IMG Code from beneath the picture you want to post.

Could happen, Rich. Actually, I bought a new '71 A65T in London in 1972, rode it around Europe for a few months, then shipped it back to Maryland and sold it through the mc shop where I worked. It gave me zero problems - a good bike and a great buddy.

Very nice but have you ever ridden it?
Vox Teardrop,
Rode it a lot before the rebuild. And another one before that. Won't ride it now with those vintage NOS MIGB K70's on it. Too valuable of a set of tires and too hard to replace. When I'm tired of it as 'eye candy' I'll replace the MIGB's with current MIJ K70's and thump on down the road.
Some think it is a sin not to ride'em. But if it is to be judged in the Concours Division as this one was (and a winner) it better be a cherry right down to the NOS MIGB's.
My '68 Firebird Scrambler is a rider, so I'm not without.
sounds about right , the post was intended to solicit pics of our BSA machines , and it takes all kinds to fill out the spectrum . that 441 is an awesome specimen , and I have to believe it is just as relevant as JT441's project bike , just a cross section of what is out there . As you may have noticed from my pics , I tend to ride and abuse some beat up junk, but in my own way I know I am havin as much fun as anyone outthere ...

I just love checking this post everyday. Thanks to all who is contributing :-)
Erich your bikes make me dream away, I guess we all see different things in your bikes. It would make a fantastic rat BSA especially with that beatiful tank, you can`t make them like that. That`s my opinion. Buy a GS engine from Phil and give it full throttle !!! he he And Nardi: nice pics, are they animated? is that bike for real or what?
Bonzo I couldn`t agree with you more. It`s nice to see the whole width of the britbike-people`s Bsa`s.

This is my 1960 Bsa I've owned since 1966. It has a 120/90X16" rear tire, stock front tire, 6" over forks, 11" shocks, 8" Z bars, peanut tank, Harley replica ext. oil filter (in place of center stand), Lucas K2F Mag, Amal 389/47 Carb. Runs great.

Actually, I am not too keen on the paint pattern of my tank, since I don't much like that ivory band, though I am surprised to find that it doesn't look too bad in the photo! (For more on this topic please see my posts under Topic/thread, "post pictures of B31 1953-1956" started by Dick1969.)

This is like a BSA meeting.Great seeing all those bikes. Hopefully you will see my Super Rocket from 1960. Ceriani forks since 1972 ,mine since2001.Did the usual things to make it a my bike.Filter for oil ,Mikuni 30mm ,an electronic ignition called Runtronic working from the crankshaft. Takes very little current from 6 volt system. Picture was taken when waiting for rescue to take me home. Have only ridden one thousand miles so far.Improving along the way hopefully. Live in Sweden waiting for spring.

There might have been a little pressure on the pipes but the majority of the weight was on the frame. I have since taken those ugly aftermarket pipes off.

Where do you get these pipes? My next A65 is going to have these pipes. I've had regular Lightning dual low pipes, Hornet high pipes on each side, and the present Firebird pipes both high on the near side, but these look like they might be the least intrusive and cleanest solution of all. Bonzo, you've got these don't you? Are there any disadvantages to them from a practical standpoint (they don't look like they block anything)?

Not my BSA. (I wish!)
Here's a picture of my cousin Don on his brand new Golden Flash. I guess this was about 1953. He's 25 years older than me, I was only an infant back then, so I have no recollection of this.
Don lived in Lynnwood, California at the time. Lynnwood is the So Cal area town where Royal Enfield dealer Shell Motors was located. Shell motors sponsored a number of Enfield racers, including a Bullet based flat-tracker that used to give the Goldstar guys fits. They also sponsored a guy named Jimmy Enz who set a number of records on Enfields at Bonneville.
My cousin told me that his next door neighbor had an identical bike, and they'd take turns racing one or the other of them up and down the street, while keeping the other parked (with engine cold) in the driveway of one of their houses.
When the inevitable call to the cops came, they'd hide the one they were riding, and claim it wasn't them by having the cop touch the motor on the parked bike.
He also said that the dealer he bought the bike from thought he had potential as a racer, and they modified the bike (typical 50's behavior!) for desert racing. They cast their own dual carb manifold for it. Don claimed he could bring the front wheel up in 3rd gear. He didn't say if this was during upshifts, or just on the throttle.
Don raced it at Catalina one year. I think he placed in the middle of the pack.
Right, I have a BSA too.
There are probably other pics of this bike around here somewhere.
My B44 Shooting Star. This bike was given to me as a basket case years ago. Pretty complete, but apart. It mainly just needed refinishing, and an engine rebuild.

It would be a great look for my '69 high-piper but is not what you usually see on a Spitfire. Some practical reason or is it just in case someone challenges you to a sand drag one day ?...

Terry: Its a 68, A65LB. I notice Brian wisely edited out that photo when he made his gallery.
Skeet: That sure is pretty. I just can't bring myself to hang mufflers on my Hornet. So I try to just ride it on weekends when all the neo-Harley crowd is out, and nobody notices me.
Thanks for the compliment Leon. I now feel I can use it daily without fear of getting arrested. The picture doesn't do the mufflers justice. Just have to chrome the little clamps & brackets. Well worth the effort. They don't seem to have affected the performance either.

But we hope see more B31's on this topic.
Because Naozar ownes a B31 from 1956 and i have a B31 plunger from 1954.
And we are both restoring those bikes and it would be nice to se how other people have don it.
I think you will agree that restorations from other people can be great help for you own.

Make it just a nice as your B34 in the B31 drag.
Dick, did you make a decission about collours allready?
New bobber currently being built by my buddy and master mechanic Highway.
Hey, the prior owner of the goldstar is my dad. He had a stroke and can't ride, ect. He bought this bike in 1955, the year I was born, and stripped it to race. He had a shop here in the bay area and used to buy brand new engines direct from BSA. I have his AMA no. plates and might just put them back on and leave the bike the way it is. Use a 6v dry cell for a brake light, and off to the races!!

That's OK. I notice another Triumph showed up on the Royal Enfield "Show Your Photos" thread.... coincidentally also posted by an Aussie...

If this turns out ok you should be able to see my well used and almost original B31. Owned since 1974, I've almost lost track of the number of miles I've covered on it. Still in regular use and I'll probably use it for the Belgian BSAOC International Rally in July.

Here's my 66 lightning. Some changes are being done to it at the moment. Smaller solo seat, no front fender and drag bars. Oh yea and working on getting it to run when i want it to not when it wants to...lol Anyway once the kinks worked out i'll prob. ride it for the season than pull it apart for repaint.
just finished this 68 a65L kept the tank and other sheet metal to get done at a later date. i will rebuild the original motor later. the 71 a65fs motor in it i built for dirt drags 15 years ago i just took the cam out and a new rebuilt head on. the pipes and mufflers are nos 68 firebird also i used caswell in the hornet tank (2 coats) excellent product bike has megacycle 534x2 cam with alloy. i tech pushrods shimmed vavle train 50 over pistons 32mm amals 18 tooth cs
at a recent maryland gunshow i picked up this 303 enfield built at factory M47C (bsa factory code for the war) paid $100 it is missing the magazine but she is a good find it is a parker hale conversion early 50's

Nice looking bike Corsica. I'm glad to hear your endorsement of the Caswell coating. I've got a brand new NOS '66 Spitfire tank that's getting the Caswell treatment.
This is a little shot of my old fella taken last year in the beautiful Blue Mountains of NSW.
Those with good eyesight will notice the lack of a tail lamp.
It fell of & has now been replaced with the new one rivited on.
Not its prettiest but the gravel plays havock with the paint on the girders.
It is a little skitso trying to pretend it is not war issue by hiding behind some chrome, with matching numbers it is reasonable to assume that the green machine never laid a hand on it.
Hello Ola, that's a lovely poster/picture you have posted of the B31. Will you please let us know the model YEAR. I have a B31, 1956, and so am particularly interested in this. I am also interested in other 1956 B31 pictures, as original as possible, so that I can compare what I have and what the original should look like. SJ
It's a 1943 model, I found the contract & it was originally ordered by the UK army so I would guess that it was bought surplus in the UK & shipped to Australia.
I bought it roughly as is from a bloke who reconed the he had ridden it for years then stored it due to overseas posting but that was crap as the "restorer" he bought it from had painted all of the plugs in the primary so you can not add oil to the chaincase, I am still working on that one. The 276 was shot so I tossed a 932 ( off my B50) on it while I sorted out somthing better.
It now runs a 628 ( off my B40) quite well so it might stay that way. Got a proper chain guard upper & lower, am currently bidding on speedo bracket ( seem to be a bit thin on the ground) then I will be looking for tool boxes , correct oil tank & battery carrier. It was a club bike just to ride while I got a few others sorted out about 7 years ago but I sort of got addicted to M20ing ( so much more refined than screaming around on the A 65) so the others are languishing in the shed for the time being
Now we are talking Bryan, Trevor and Gearard.
These are the pix. i'am looking for.
I'am still in restoring preces off B31 and i discoverd last week that my front for shrouds were abused and rusted. So i made new lower half parts on the laymachine.
Now they look almost as new.

Resto is progressing nicely. All hardware cad plated, all black parts are black, again. Chrome to chromer next week. GP 1.5 back from UK rebuilt. New/rebuilt fuel tank back from Canada awaiting paint. Clocks still in UK waiting rebuild. Motor and gearbox apart awaiting piston (looking for 9 or 9.5:1 in 10 over if anybody has one). Wheels done. Forks done. Very cool project. Everyone's been a great help. Thank again.
Oh, yeah...here's a pic of the motor hardware before going to the plater. Took pics of all the cad plated stuff and still can't figure out where everything goes!
Acording to the detailed notes, the parts belong the "engine"
Any help at all?
Gunk
Hello Rockitdoc!
Beware not to cadplate the rocker shafts, they have a good fit on the rocker arm ususally and they should be interfered with. All the other bis are clear to me anyhow (rockerbox studs, oilpump studs, cylinder base nuts etc.etc.) It is a shame that over in this country (Germany) cad-plating is forbidded due to toxicity and enviormental issues so we need to live with zinc and rust!!
Have a good one
Hagen
Here is my one owner dirt tracker looking today just as it did in 1961.
Is that one of Neil Keen's bikes?
Neil Keen rode this bike for me from 1960 to 1965.
These are some 'inventory' bits after cad plating. That stuff in the glass is a special lubricant I use. Call for more info.
Tell me,
Why do Americians & Canadanians call Zinc plating Cad ?
I had that problem rebuilding the brake system for the shadow.
According to the video every thing had to go & get cad plated which turned out to be zinc plating.
We call it cad plating because it is short for cadmium plating which is what was originally used on the bikes. Zinc and cad plating, though similar, are not the same. Cad plating produces a whiter, less shiny and more durable finish that zinc.
Cadmium plating not only produces a softer, more durable finish than zinc, it also is better for the threads. Cad has more "lubricity" than does zinc. When the mass change from cad to zinc occurred, drove hydraulic fitting and bolt people nuts with thread problems at first.
Finding a cad plater these days is tough. Cad plating is a little tough on the environment and people doing the work. As one person in that industry told me: "the least objectionable chemical used in cad plating is muratiac acid. The most objectionable chemical used in zinc plating is muratiac acid."
Most places you send hardware to are actually doing zinc plating with a dye that gives the appearance of cad. The aerospace industry still specifies and requires cad plating due to it's better corrosion resistance and better thread lubricity. Some of the aerospace palters do restoration work as a sideline business.
Now you are not trying to tell me that the nice timber table full of nuts, bolt's & washers ( not to mention the glass of red) that Roc has just posted are Cad are you ?
This is what prompted the question.
I know what Cadminium plating is and in most parts of the the world it is illegal except for military applications and only then under really strict conditions.
The big advantage of cad is that you can plate high strength steels that you can not Zinc plate due to hydrogen embrittlement and for the military it is dull & not likley to reflect light to give away your position and I seem to recall it dose funny things to radar waves.
There was a very similar looking coating that used zinc with 10% to 14% aluminium.
But I seem to continually be coming across obviously zinc plated items being called cad, gets really confusing
Sometimes old habits die hard. For people like me, who grew up in the hobby (Brit bikes) and construciton equipment industry when it was still legal, plated hardware was cad plated. Period. So sometimes the use of cad is a bit generic term referring to plated hardware. Yea, most stuff today is zinc plated. Including so called restoration hardware.
But if I am referring to hardware on one of my bikes, they are cad plated....I know of a few people that are still legally using real live cad.
And good point about hydrogen embrittlement. Lots of stories in industry about heads mysteriously popping off high strength fasteners since switching to zinc. The period of time from zinc plate to treatment for hydrogen embrittlement is SHORT. And every load of fasteners has to be treated after zinc plating. Cad is much more forgiving in this area too.
am i too late to stick my oar in ?
taken just before i cleaned it!!!

'64 BSA A50 frame, will have a '67 BSA A65L motor very shortly...

Nice bike, Roy. were the cylinders painted body color on BSAs originally?
Tyler, industro look, or custom paint & chrome?
Originally posted by GrandPaul:

The front end is already painted the same as the frame will be, which is a semi-gloss black. Undecided on the tank and rear fender, seat is staying uncovered as-is. Not very much chrome at all, so is still going to be painted black...
Cheers
Tyler
hey GP!
i would think if it was cast iron, it was painted.
Hacksaw, If it was cast iron was it painted blue?? Interesting detail , didnt notice it till I looked again . -BONZO
Hi RJBSA1949,
Love the T-fitting. Where did you get the parts? What part numbers?
Thanks
Bill
Here's a picture of Mr Tom Peay's A7. One of John French's ex "Rusty Treasures".
HI, Bikers On the color of the barrel on my bike is sego blue, not orginal ,but i like blue. it was black before. On thoil pressure T junction , i made this myself. no parts number. Ij you want i can get the same hook up for you, will talk cost later . willing to help anyone on this oil presure kit. looks good , works grat. Thanks Roy
Found this under a tree in my old hometown w lawnmowers and junk.
1970 BSA Thunderbolt. Some like it some dont.
For the ones that don't like it: too bad!
I've had this Goldie since 1982. It has gone through several incarnations and periods over use and under use. I had it stored in boxes for about 10 years and started rebuilding it January of '06. I have been slowly rebuilding it to run it in the vintage class at some landspeed events such as Bonneville and Maxton. Last year I had it at Bonneville but had it geared with my 18t engine sprocket instead of the 23t. Rookie brain. I had a little engine damage and have been aquiring new pieces to have another go at it this year.
David
David: That is one sweet photo. I use it for my desktop background as inspiration, hope there is no copyright fee. Do you have anymore great shots to inspire the GS boys and girls?
Good luck on the salt.

I feel it's finally time to unleash my rebuild on the world...
Here is a picture of my 1951 D1 Bantam, the longest ride I've ever taken it on was over three hours to ride from Tallahassee to Lake City (100 miles). It used about one gallon of "petroil".
Here's a photo of my 54 A10GF. Was originally gold but I thought balck would look better. Maybe it's not original but I like it.

My '66 A65 Bitsa with '70 front end
GraemeD.....As an option to the standard colour all BSA models were available in Black so a black Golden Flash is fine, even to the purists. It just sounds a bit odd when you say it. Nice bike!! Beezageezauk.
Here's my '69 A65 Lightning:
Notice the 'crane' bird in the background... appears to be admiring the bike! :bigt:
![[Linked Image]](http://tbartoli.com/images/Vintage%20Bikes/A65L-FL.jpg)
Here's another view... no bird watching here!
Wow, super looking ride! and weather! could that crane be a Great Blue Herron? we have those here when they are not vacationing in the states. They have good kicker legs I hear so watch where you park it, LOL!
Steve
Thanks 441CafeSteve.
Don't think it's a Blue Herron.
These guys are big, gray in color, and with real long necks, thus the name "crane, I guess!
They like to hang around the house since my wife feeds them wild bird food, sometimes they heat right out the palm of her hand! :stout:
Nice work, Nukeranger!
Did you manufacture some of those non-standard parts yourself or are they aftermarket stuff?
Hi all,
Lots of nice machines you got !
Maybe not too common in other parts of this world, but fairly well presented here in the lowlands ( Belgium, Holland and Denmark ) is the ex British and Danish army B40 WD model.
Here' s some pictures of the one I restored over the past 1,5 years and finished only last week. It had been dismantled some 20 year's ago and was then stored in a damp shed, so you can imagine how it looked. Anyway, I got it for free, so I can' t complain on that
It took me so long because there wasn' t a single part that didn' t need attention ...
Only modifications ( apart from the paintsceme of course ) :
- battery was moved to the airfilter box ( made a new box )
- licence plate holder from a Triumph and other taillight ( saves 0,5 kilogrammes ! )
- new Amal Concentric to replace the lawnmower-type disaster original ...
- road tyres
Hope you like it,
Peter
Mooie fiets, buurman. :bigt:
Nice looking bike, neighbour.
Heheh, thanks Ger
Peter
Nice looking bike Peter, you done good

.
Just out of curosity Peter are the foot rests off set ( one foreward , the other backward) on the Dutch WD40's?
Or is this a modification unique to the Australian ones.
We got 626's fitted to ours instead of that butterfly job.
Peter, that is one of the most striking "before and after" contrasting photo essays I have ever seen. VERY well done and what a nice result!
Thanks Rich. Looking back at the " debris " as it was when I accuired it, I ' m glad I did finish it ...
@Trevor: the right footrest is standing upright, while the left one is bolted to the frame more backward and leans forward, so both are approximately level.
I knew these B40 WD models where used in the British and Danish army, but didn' t know of any use in the Australian army.
Peter
Oops GrandPaul, missed your post . Thank you .
Well, there' s a lot more pictures, but I thought I' d spare you guys the horror
Peter
Bike Beesa: Never call a dutchmen Belgian and vise versa.
Here's my '69 Lightning. Unfortunately equipped with a less attractive crank case breather at the moment.
hi,Petersen, nice bike, What happen to the engine. Sorry for the mishap. Bsa friend Roy
Petersen: Are you testing a "total loss" oiling system?
Yeowch!
Great looking bike, Petersen, but I think you fitted that extra side stand wrong

.
What happened ?
Peter
What happened? Well, I don't know really. I was out cruisin' with the lady as pillion. Speed was around 90 km/h when I suddenly saw the red oil pressure lamp coming on. Instinctivly I pulled the clutch just before the engine locked up. Then there was... silence. Just the wind and friction sound from the tarmac. We pulled up at the roadside and I tried to kick the engine over but it was stucked rock solid.
Back home I noticed the hole in the crank case and just rolled the bike to the most remote corner of the garage, determined I didn't wan't to see it again. Well, a couple of weeks later I've pulled the head off and I'm just about to pull the cylinder. Maybe it's the main bearing? Due to an oil pump going on strike? I don't know yet, but time will tell when I get down to the engine bottom end. I've started to look for a new crank case or maybe another engine. I don't think it will be too difficult to source one since A65's are quite common here in Sweden.
It's a pitty it happened at te start of the season, Petterson. I ride an A65T so I'm curious about what caused this.
Please let us know when you found out.
Yes, I will as soon as I have gained enough strenght to see what horrors that lurks inside that engine. Fortunately I still have my trusty Commando, so the season isn't totally spoiled.

Hello there,
You've probably seen pictures of my bike posted here before, and I've posted a few stupid questions regarding getting it back on the road...but its there now and running well!
Cheers for a great website and to all those that make it happen,

This B50SS
was mine, but I sold it a long time ago. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I should post the S/N and see if anybody knows its whereabouts today...
Latest incarnation of mine.....'66 BSA StreetFighter
man these photos just make me wet. i am sooooo jealous.
Redman, I've got to say it...
After all the mods and hand forming, boring and adaptations, retrofitting, polishing and period "correct" additions your bike is nothing short of superb. Really a fine piece of work!
Don in Nipomo :bigt:
I have to agree.
It looks superb. If you had told me what you were going to do I would have had my doubts. But that really does look fantastic. The parts look like they're meant to be there.
My idea of what "modern classic" should mean!
Cheers,
Tombeau
Awww shucks guys.....I'm gettin' all warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks for the kudos.....have to get the chainguard back on there but Buster is pretty well done. Until I find another bag of money that is....then it's 750cc, port the head, 90 crank..rear disc...SMACK!..SMACK!

Phew...thanks, I needed that. Now where'd I put those damn meds? :bigt:
Redman.........what type of 'silencers' are those??
Those are original Dunstall Decibels.....good luck finding a pair. I lucked out big time about a year ago.
The bikes on this thread are amazing!
I just finished this '67 Hornet East Coast model. I put it back to original factory specs. It sits next to the '70 Victor on page 3 of this thread.
Wow thats beautiful! Do you have a pic of the other side?
heres my latest addition, 1972 BSA A65T. needs extensive cosmo work, but mechanically sound, runs great. i have big plans for it but for now im just gonna ride it.
imageshack
Gary,
What a beautifull bike :bigt: .
I just love the Hornet with that tank and high pipes. Wished I had one even though I'm supposed to be a Triumph guy  .
Really envious.
Rick, Here it is going the other way. I am now giving the '67 Hornet West Coast model the same treatment.
these are my favorite 3 bikes (all being BSA of course) 66 Victor, 68 spitfire cafe, and the one I'm alway's on my 1966 BSA royal star
Hank
Wow, these latest few pix are some awesome bikes.
Hi Gary:
Are the sidecovers on the Hornet the same as the Lightning? They look the same to me, but not sure. I'm needing a set for a '67 A65L. Did you have to find those, or were they on the bike already?
-T. of C.
My first BSA and I really like it. 67 Thunderbolt--Appears to be all original. I've had it a few weeks and got it up and running. I plan to keep it just how it is and putt around.
Terrance,
The side covers were an extra set I had. The pair that were on the Hornet when I got it were the original gel coat color that matched my '68 Firebird Scrambler (rider), so I put them on the Firebird. The extra set I ended up using on the Hornet had 6 different color layers of paint that I stripped off to get to the original gel coat finish.
The parts manual for '67 lists different part numbers for the Lightning than for the Hornet and Spitfire (same part numbers). But I believe it is all for the differnce in the colors for the various models. The covers themselves are all the same shape and fitment for '67.
Chief, that's a nice looking bike. It's good to see that someone else has a fairly substantial primary side leak as well...
Thanks JD. It has a few leaks, but I'll keep it around. I'll probably block off the chain oiler and lube it myself.
That is about the amount of oil that a well adjusted chain oiler will leave on the ground and that is by no means a substantial amount of oil
I only see one photo on page 7. Am I missing a program ?
Bob there 7 or 8 pictures on page seven??.Bill
Yup....even with my glasses on...only one. I must be missing a program but who knows what one !!
85 degrees in Portland today and my bike is in pieces....
I count nine photos and one red x
I count 10. Do I win something?
If all the pictures load, then 10 is the total. JD is the big winner. He gets a BSA that doesn't leak oil.
Gary:
Thanks for info. I'm still looking for a decent set - but thought the T-bolt ones were different, to accomodate the single carb.
-T of C
Also, regarding ChiefEagle's bike... did the '67s have the tank-top decal?
-T of C
Terrance,
Not the subject of this thread as I want to see more BSA pictures. So I will keep it brief.
You are correct. The single carb. model side covers (Royal, Thunderbolt) have a different shape at the front to accomodate the single carbs. The parts manual ('67) even shows different part numbers for east and west coast USA models.

Nice bikes Hank! Love the Spitfire.
Thank's Gumby, I had to build A bike to put those fine Italian Michelin's on :p
Hank
ljm,
Nice looking Hornet. It oughta climb a tree with that rear sprocket. Is the front tire a 4.00 on a WM-3 rim?
Originally posted by Hank:

What kind of Michelin are you using (on th e Spitfire?)? I will probably put on the Macadams 3.25H19 and 4.00H18 on my 71 T-bolt.
TTFN,
Goldstarfreddie, Having been to your shop and seeing these bikes (one on this page and two at the end of pg 6)in pieces I must say the finished products are overwhelming. Keep at it!!! Ken
Hi all, Here's my 1967/70 Thunderbolt/Lightning, Cheers
welcome fellow ozzie....a FINE looking motorcycle you have there sir...
Gary E
Thanks. Yes it is a 4.00 on a WM-3 rim. Its NOS. Skeet said the same thing about the sprocket!! Have a 47 tooth ...just havent got around to changing it. Have a set of TT pipes for it but used the high pipes to set the carbs. Your Hornet is true head turner!!

My '66 victor
Nice bike kt. Those early Victor's have that basic bare bones motorcycle look.....plus they are fun to ride.
Finally got sme shots of my Spit:
Check out my other stuff

i can't help but notice how different it is than the others on this thread. is it unusual to have a beezer and not restore it to original specs?

There is no law that every bike must look catalogue correct.
Very few of them would have been that way back in 1957 so why should they look that way in 2007?
hippies bike.....
Here's the 72 T-Bolt-
I know it's supposed to be Etruscan Bronze-but i like this paint scheme much better-besides, I had the basecoat/clearcoat laying around extra from an El Camino I painted a while back.
Second "shake down run" to town. made it in, no drama, nothing fell off! Yippee!

BrianfromOz...
thanks for your help with my pic.
...no worries...welcome to the board! :bigt:
Nice T-bolt Mike. I like the paint!!! The rest of the bike is clean also. What tires do you have one it?
Thanks Gumby-
I had an Etruscan Bronze BSA years ago and I never was in love with the color, and when you have left-over paint on the rack, well.....
The tires are Cheng Shin Hi Max, I think they're some Continental knock-offs.
http://www.tiresunlimited.com/ALL%20TIRES/Cheng%20Shin/cheng_hi_max_sport.htm For a short-trip rider they work well, my local guy can get them easily and I already had a rear in the chicken house that was new. Bought the front to match.
Good to see someone from Down Home-- I was raised in Columbus!

Elder Rocker:
I do not see a head stay on your bike; neither in front, not on the rocker cover as I would expect on an 'oil in frame' T-bolt.
I learned from this forum it is supposed to decrease vibrations. Do you not miss it?
Hi Ger-
Sharp eye. I have to tell you that I've looked at photos of your gorgeous bike many times as I was getting this one together. A big help. As far as the head steady, it was AWOL on this bike as I received it, so I made one out of flat steel, bent on the ends to fit the angle from the rocker cover to the rear u-shaped frame mount. Seems to be doing the job and holding up fine.
Thanks
Mike
Kansas, America
Here's another slightly different view-you can only just make out the head steady.
I also used mid-60's non-crossover pipes with repro Dunstalls (nice growl!), added a spin-on oil filter behind the oil bearing frame tube and a Tympanium for simplicity. Nothing that isn't easily reversable to original as the #'s do match.
Mike

Hello Rocker. I believe you when you say it's there. Lovely bike you have. :bigt:
I rode mine to a friend in Friesland (north of our country) this weekend. From my place a 230 km ride (145 miles). I had here up to 170 kph (5500 rpm) (106 mph) for a short while, and nothing went wrong. On the way back, Sunday afternoon I thought I'd treat her kindly so at a lazy 100 kph (60 mph) she decided to loose the back rocker cover bolt and sprayed about 1/3 gallon of oil over my trousers.
There is allways some surprise with these old beasts. Or it's her way of telling she wants to be driven harder...
Enjoy.

Hello all,
This is my 1968 A-65 Lightning in a 1969 hard tailed Lightning frame. It was a total basketcase. Some Friends from work who build Triumphs bought a BARN FULL of old British Motorcycle bits. Mostly Triumph (maybe 10/12 bikes worth), and enough BSA parts for a few Beezers. I went to there shop after it was all delivered and picked out a frame and the saddest little Lightning lower end I could find. They helped me find some cylinders and a head and then threw in a couple of wheels and I was on my way.
![[Linked Image]](https://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x61/BSA-KC/BSA_csk.jpg)
A BIG thanks to everyone here, this is a great site. This is my first bike I could not have finished it without this forum.
Casey
1968 B44 Shooting Star, riding over Chinook Pass (Mt.Rainier) in spring of 2007.
Well that's not too bad, except that you have to click on the links instead of the pictures just coming up in-line.
The bike is registered (and engine stamped) as a 1966 A65S. Pistons are 9:1, essentially rendering it a Lightning. The fuel tank is from a '67 Tbolt, and the primary chaincase cover is from a '71. Carbs are 32mm Mikunis, and ignition is Boyer-Bransden ****og. Rear fender and taillight assy. are HD Sportster, and the luggage rack is an HD Sportster accessory for use with a solo seat. I have no idea of the origin of the oil tank, although it looks exactly like the oil tank on the blue bobber in the previous (Gunk's) post!

Yes Sven, that is very cool. Pretty much what I had always envisioned my Spitfire cafe would look like if I ever get one.
Hi Bucket15,no problem will post some new photos later on in the week, just finished full engine rebuild so looking forward to getting back on the road!!

many thanks to Brian from oz for posting pics of my shooting star- I am useless at that process.

To keep this thread alive....picture from 2 weeks ago of my LC & GS together outside of the garage
Rich and Rob, posting dealer photo's from the fifties and sixties of brand new machines fools none of us.
John
They weren't that shiny when new :p
man you guys have some beauties!!! both the restores and the choppers. I like the black scheme, mine's already got nothing but black or chrome from the PO, except the slightest bit of leftover blue on the tank bolt hole, I think when it gets painted, if it gets it, it'll be black.
I finally got a good pic of my 1957 A10 Spitfire Scrambler. I've wiped down nearly all I can reach, and polished anything chrome. she'll probably look much like this even with all the work I still have ahead of me, most of that is internal. I want it working as well as I can get before any cosmetics get funding... except maybe badges.
Here's a pic of my 1969 Lightning. Just about done just some finishing touches on tank badges and decals
I love this link ! Thanks to everyone who is contributing.
Wonder how many magazines I`d have to buy to see all these beatiful bikes.
This forum is really inspiring.
The Lightning has not seen action for several years until this past August.
Last weekend I put on ~600km down and up Vancouver Island.
Loved every twist of the throttle.
Here is my 68 441 Vic. Was a basket case.

This A65 is one of the most beautiful BSA's I have ever seen!! Hmmmmmmm......I have a big tank like that.......
Ken H.
25 BSA's
1940-1972
what type of tank is that on the black '71?? is that the stock seat??
Here is shot of the Victor on top of Jerry mountain over-looking Penticton, BC.
I'm holding onto the WR so it wouldn't blow over.
The fun part about this ride was that the brake cable snapped at the beginning of the ride at the bottom of the hill.
The pic is a few years old.
raf940:
The tank on my 71 Lightning is a 4 gal stock BSA. I have also heard it called a European tank. The seat is stock.
gary......i have those aftermarket side panels on my triumph..but yours seem way shinier....are they fiberglas? did you paint them?/
here's the reason for my curiosity.....about 10 years ago i had a 72 thunderbolt...sold it to a friend he has it in his garage and has not ridden it.....i'm gonna try and get ti tback....yours if gorgeous
raf940:
Both the tank and side covers were painted with PPG omni AE. The side covers are fiberglas. Good luck with getting the 72 back. Mine was a Thunderbolt to start, but now has a Lightning head. Lightning Bolt ???
gary....sorry to bug you again....where did you get the side panels??
raf940:
No idea where the side panels came from. They were on the bike when I bought it. I have seen them advertised from a bike shop in Canada, but I can't remember the name. He sold mostly Triumph parts. Northern Cycle or something like that. Sorry I can't help on that one. No problem answering questions.

Did some digging. Northern Eagle Cycle was the place I was trying to remember. Website is still running.
gary.mine are the same type only i call them 'plastic' instead of fiberglas (as in glued up fibers)..i didnt know if paint would stick to them without cracking off if they flex....i've got an old triumph oil tank and side cover from 1967 i'm going to try and adapt as a project
thanks
oh i dug out a couple of photos of the thunderbolt i took around 1985/i was thinner but my wife had BIG hair/ she told me when i sold it..'you'll be sorry"
raf940
My covers have a rough texture on the back side. Paint has been on for a couple of years, no problems so far. My wife said the same thing when I sold my 69 Lightning. Do they know things we don't?

what a great thread
No thats me taken about 1960 Orange Texas,River side .The bike was one of Dads lot .Latter that day I would discover light sockets -Wade

I thought it was bad enough that you're hanging off the muffler cold, don't want to get the kids in
that habit, eh?! I know I spent a few days playing with soapy water after I grabbed the rototiller muffler at age two.
so which bike is that alloy beauty you've got? a B model, no?
here's a link to my A65L that I rescued from a basement. In another folder are some pics of my old M20....and some other bikes long gone. Hey, I had to buy a house...some things had to go :-(

cthal: I found your photo album very interesting, as I also have several WW2 Dodges-a WC4 and a WC51. The WC51 was in Swiss service after WW2, and was brought back by Southeast equip. (or something like that),and turned into a runway snowplow truck for years. The Dodge plant pics were great.
I have a couple of restored M20 BSAs also, along with all the correct uniforms and gear. A lot of it is pictured in Hinrick's M20 Yahoo group.
Our interests look quite similar-at one point I was collecting vintage farm tractors, too. I like all sorts of old iron.
Hal...an interesting assortment of machinery there!
The Dodge factory photos were a real insight...

Yes sir we were 59 models.

That's really nice. Now it makes me want to do one like it, but not as shiny. Cut the footpeg mounts to move the pegs back about 2", shorten and swivel the gearshift and brake by about 1". A little bit narrower bars, angled back just a little more.
Do you happen to have a picture of the near-side so I can see the side-cover treatment on that side?
Looks like a K70 on the front, but from the low profile it looks like a modern tire on the back; how does that handle for you?
What sort of instrument is that, a speedo I'm guessing since the tach drive looks blanked off? Accessory brand or a Smith's in a shiny mount?
Did you have to rejet the Amals to accomodate the aftermarket air filters? Do the pipes have baffles? Looks like it could be a candidate for a siamesed 2 into 1 system!
It doesn't look like you have a crossover or cross-brace on the exhaust headers. Is there a bracket that mounts to the front top engine mount, can't tell from that angle?
I've never seen a tank like that on an OIF. Does anyone know if they're available at swapmeets or UK autojumbles?
Well, you said you didn't mind questions! :bigt:

![[Linked Image]](https://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd81/71dawg/IMG_1250.jpg)
Lannis- The bike handles OK, but I don't drag the pegs anymore. That is the speedo, but it does not work properly (reads slow). It is a unknown brand accessory. I have looked at the one Rask Cycle sells, but have not made up my mind. Since it is a T-bolt bottom end, no tach. There are small baffles in the pipes (no complaints from the neighbors). The bike was a runner when I bought it, so I have not played with the Amals. There are no braces or crossover on the exhaust, yes they do move around. I am planning to install braces at some point. Probably after one blows off on the road. Still happy to answer any questions. Gary [/LIST]

Sort of like this one ??
As far as I know there are two types of this tank. I have the type with a flat top, but I also saw a type with a weld from front to back, like a rim. This rim can be covered with a chromium strip.
I do not think so, but it's confusing. The OIF Triumph tanks I see here all have the rim, but Gary's does not seem to have it. Of the OIF BSA tanks here some have the rim, others (like mine) do not have it.
As the small bolt holes for the Triumph logo are wider apart than those of the BSA-logo, I presume that when these holes are correct, the tank is correct for the specific bike, whether it has a rim or not.
The Triumph has the taps more forward than the BSA, so I would say my tank, without the rim is definately a BSA-tank.
You are correct about the week spot in the tunnel. Mine is also welded there, and the weld is covered with epoxy resin. These tanks need the brace between left and right, in the front bottom.
FWIW
Hi everybody.
Beautiful bikes!
I just finished my first "sludge trap out" restoration on a basket case that I have lugged around for twenty years.
Not perfect or correct but I am proud of my first effort.Started on 3rd. kick.
mikejetty....not perfect ot correct??? it looks darn good to me..nice work
hey Mike do you know the name of that color tia aprophet aka david
Hi, Mike , Great job on a beautiful bike. You can be proud of your self ,for it show how the love of bsa a its finest. Mike, I finally got my loghts working on my 1970 bsa A65 Lightning. Also I think I got the rings to seat. Bike runs great, sounds better, oil pressure 60 Plus lbs. cold/ 45 lbs, hot; 32lbs at 1200 rpms. I still remember you /and one day will make another visit at your home town. Hope you the best on ridding your bikes. Take care/God Bless Roy Vincent, Jr. 337 2296884
Hey Ger,
Do you have part numbers for the chrome strips on the BSA large tanks for the OIF models? They don't seem to be available here in the US.
Thanks,
Bill
Thanks for the good words guys.
Raf940-Original seat cover was grey and with a pattern.(could not find right material)
The decals are correct for the 69 year, but I could not find a single example of the US model that had them.(UK-yes)I put them on anyway.I like them.
Bantam menace-Original color was Bushfire Orange(US) with the gold stripe and blk. pins.I would like to take credit for the cool hip and mod late 60's look ,but I can't.High pipes were spec for 69 Starfire US.
Aprophet-The closest I came to the Bushfire orange was House of Kolor-tangerine pearl pbc32 and H of K-Zenith gold bc 12
RJ-hope to see you one day soon.
Except for paint and some chrome,I did everything for the first time.Laced and trued the wheels! Not exactly easy but not that hard either.
All of you with real experience here,I owe you a debt of gratitude. And a beer.
One last thing,if you are doing this sort of project right now,CLEAN the sludge trap.Amazing the rot and corruption that was in there.
Mike
Mike Jetty-
Real nice the way it turned out. The color really pops. Never worry if other people like it or not. Last year I entered my 71 Lightning (see above) in a charity show. Some guy came up and looked at the bike and said "That not the correct tank, the mufflers are not the right ones and on and on" I asked him where his bike was and he pointed to it. It was a bike alright, a Schwinn bicycle ! I just walked away laughing.
/Users/alanroberts/Desktop/BSA Goldstar #1.jpg
heres my 1961 DBD34 Goldstar Clubman after finishing a2 year compl;ete restoration. The bike started its life as a road racers for several years on the Isle o Man before going to Austrialia to be raced there until the early 80s where it came to southern California to race again it blow its engine and sat from 88 until I aquired it in 2004. I used all NOS parts including the tires and seat cover and she runs and sounds as good as she looks! Yes I know it has SS spokes! Now working on a 1960 A10 Spitfire Scrambler will post a pic or two when shes completed Alan R santa Barbara CA
Gumby, about the chrome parts, sorry but I don't. I had them once, posted here by someone... But as my tank is flat (no seam) I didn't bother. If I might find the numbers again I will email them to you. They are three pieces. Maybe you should open a new topic to ask this question Now its snowed under the picture posts.
Hi All
Here are some shots of my 1969 T-bolt. Not original, and I apologize in advance to offended purists. However, I like her, and she has an amazingly light clutch, and gets out of her own way very nicely. Lots of second looks on the road too (though lately it may be because it is so cold, and the lookers wonder what kind of idiot would be out riding . . .)
Lliam
Buggane,
Nice bike, looks like it will do the job just fine.
BTW: What belt drive do you have in there. Been thinking on trying one someday, just to see how they work.

Thanks Breeze. It's a Bob Newby set up, the 30mm belt kit. It's the proverbial "like butter." :bigt:

Wow! Someone posted a giant sized pic on page 10 of this thread, so now we have to roll the screen left and right to see the pics and narrative. I'll be glad when page 10 is filled up and page 11 starts. I won't go back to page 10 again.
I was really enjoying this thread.
Then Page 10 happened.
I'll wait till page 11 to post a pic of my Victor.
We just need to post some meaningless posts to roll it over. And hope people size pictures correctly before posting
I will look forward to your Victor picture
"and I really like look of the seat on yours stuart, anything special to it? springs hidden? how big is it actually?'
Nothing really special, the original owner was in the custom car interior biz, he told me he made it on the original pan as well as a matching pilon pad.
I've never seen another one like it, paint scheme(it is the original paint) or single seat set up. It's numbers come up as a 58 A10 Super Rocket, but any additional info would be much appreciated.
Let me know guys!
Thanks,
Stuart
I guess y'all are talkin about that big shot of the A7? Its such a beautiful bike the big pic doesn't bother me hardly at all.
Here is my friend Dan's 67. Last year I rehabbed the ET- new coils. Now I just had to seal the tank. It has funky handlebars and Triumph footpeg rubber. Nobody knows why it has concentrics. Otherwise, still has English air in the original tires.
Leon,
Nice shot of the Hornet. I have a weakness for the Hornet line.
I need to acquire (probably have to make it) the special tach cable clamp on the exhaust pipe. The parts manual doesn't show it. Could you send me some close-up pics of it to my e-mail address?
Gary: I should have a chance tomorrow.

just doing my part to see more bikes!!
Surely you blokes have some pics in you photobucket to share of your BSAs. Even close ups serve to help with technical questions on other threads.
For example, break switch instalation etc.........
Not sure why we have to get off the 10th page, but I just locked myself out of my photobucket account. Anyone remember my password?
Ok, So I've gathered endless inspiration from this thread. Beautiful machines that resemble my dream machines that continue to lay in pieces in my garage.
I am now locked out of my photobucket account. I had endless SMALL images to contribute from there, opportunties for future technical references for Britbikes looking for guidance.
No one assisted with any suggestion of my photobucket password. That was so 2007 anyway....
I'll set up a new one.
To fill space, I will share with you my new year so far. For the first time in ages, I got sick news day from something other than too much beer. House was full of wife's family so all I did was sleep. Got a nice bath robe.
My daughter got a brand new Godin electric guitar (yes, daddy gets to play). Beautiful feel to it. Son got the Wii Guitar Hero III. Brushing up on my technical guitar coordination with it. They were sold out in Toronto and a neighbour who attends NYU got one for me in New York. A small coup for Mom and Dad. Its kind of addicting.
My God, is this enough yet.

We need a politician to contribute. That would fill up page 10 with just one political pitch.

I know, I know, I said it twice. It's for those that have hearing aids and don't have them in. What?!
This year I qualified for free hearing aids from the Veterans Administration. Hearing hasn't gotten much worse, but they now have an in-house audiologist instead of some subcontractor.
Here is my shop sound system. 1400 watts, what I can't hear I can feel
Rick,
Nice OIF Lightning! I really like the large tank paint job. Cool bike!
TTFN,
1970 A50 Almost ready for full road rego .It now has 1971 blinkers fitted.
My BSA A& 500 1951/53 frame/motor, or the otherway round, not sure...
To be restored, probably after I finish my Falcon XA, or when I'm bored late one night if I don't require sleep ( 2 little children makes it hard to play with my toys )
My new bike, don't even have it home yet,

My latest addition a 1968 BSA Lightning. Yes with I believe 1970 Side covers only because the previous owner painted the original covers black. I'm working on restoring those covers this summer. Other than that I believe the bike is original, to include plug caps, points, etc. Even had the original tires which I had replaced my my sake! This has a much different ride from my 1968 Triumph TR6C. Probably because of the gearing difference and way the handle bars are set-up, and the narrow seat. Still a nice bike. See you at Mid-Ohio 2008!
Trump
Ok, so who deleted posts to get us back to page 10?
Trump
Nice Lightning. I am a little prejudice, but the 68's are sweet bikes :bigt:
I think it was Rich himself. He wanted to enter post no 500 in this tread.
I can't moderate on this board. Carter is the one who wields power in this universe. And of course Morgan
I think it was the terrorists...
Maybe someone's picture links expired to their 8 Mpixel photos, shortening the whole thread.
Just in case, though, we should give Mike C. a hearty flogging!
Great thread. Over a year old now!
I haven't been to this site in a while but will try and make amends.
Here's my 1959 Catalina Goldstar, originally ridden by my dad and run and maintained by myself the last 15 years or so.

Here's a pic of my Beeza before I took it all apart.
Sharp-eyed observers will notice that this is an Ariel not a BSA. However the former was part of the BSA group and shared many components, including the A10 engine in the case of the 650 models. The last year of Ariel fourstroke production (58) saw the high perf Road Rocket spec Cyclone model produced for North America... as notably owned by Buddy Holly.
My dad put this one together a couple years ago and it actually has the Rocket's alloy head as well...while all the Ariel timing, rocker box covers, etc still fit!
It goes good! Rave on.
Doug
Trump, the Trump also has a steeper steering angle.
'Stay Safe'..... this bike is a non-runner, - last we heard.
Any news or updates Dave ?
hey kevin in NZ is that a piper tomahawk you have for a 'logo?'
Yes, well spotted. My MKIII Spitfire avatar disappeared when the website hosting it changed.
Are those birds Pollywagons, or Tomohawks, or what the heck?
i made my first solo in a tomahawk...we called them traumadogs ..a wicked stall break...but sort of like riding a bike in the sky
i made my first solo in a tomahawk...we called them traumadogs ..a wicked stall break...but sort of like riding a bike in the sky
I own and fly the blue one. The other two are privately owned now but I maintain all three.
All have done over 10,000 hrs each and mostly all done with an aero club at Invercargill, 300 miles away. Took mine up to the A1GP racing at Taupo a few weeks ago, 6 1/2 hrs for the trip but a quick and easy way to cross Cook Strait. The water separating North and South Islands. I'm afraid the trip would be a bit of a mission on a bike, hopefully some of the guys here might get a chance to try it in a couple of years.
I'm starving. We need some more pics.
Ok , Now for something a little different
Do I detect a GA10 chassis or?
Well at long last my 1968 A50 Royal Star has been dragged out into the sunlight and onto the road. Bought as a rolling wreck in late 2006.
I wonder what fun we'll have together?

More about the rebuild later, I'm just going to enjoy riding it for the present... :bigt:
Okay peeps,
This is the current status of my BSA B31.
I hope finnish te rebuilt before april 31st.
But i encounter several problems.
On are stearinghead bearings i bought tapperd bearing because the are better. But with this cowl plunger model thas a poblem because the bearings are a few mill thicker (3-4 mm each) and that meens the shrouds of the front springs are to short and the bolt holes of the won't align.
So i orderd new orginal ball bearings.
There are lot of other litle problems to over come.
Regards
Dick
web page
April 31st does not exist, Dick. But when you are finished, be it april 30st or march 1st, can I come and have a look?
Karl B.
thanks for the photos..i am going to do my A65 project all black but with gold pinstripe ala' norton on the tank, sidecovers and fenders and was wondering how it might look....is that a 7" TLS shoe brake?? what size rim??
Oke ger, no problem.
Those 31's are messing with my head.
Of course it is the 30th queensday.
Dick
Raf940, that's a 19" rim with a 90/90H19 Roadrunner on it, I guess the lower profile makes the gap look bigger. The Roadrunners sure suit the bike, lovely straight line stability and cornering. It's an 4.00H18" on the back and it just fits in. The brake, as far as I know, is a stock 8" 68 BSA (Triumph) item, it measures just over 8" anyway... :bigt:
Here are a couple of photos of my 68 Spitfire. Without the help of many people on this site I
never could have completed the restoration.
n
My 1972 BSA B50 SS. Have all the parts, just trying to get a piston and rings. Dunno what I'll do for paint yet. Just want to put it back together, get it running by this summer, then worry about paint later. It was originally my fathers uncle's bike, then my fathers. Now its mine!
Every so often I go back and enjoy the pics on this thread. Not much new lately.
B33. 50 in a 52 frame ( I think )
Most of this was done by the previous owner , but who knows and yes , it had HUGE clutch issues.
I love it .
Anyone in OZ that knows of a small Tilbrook with BSA fittings for sale please contact me .
Thanks ,
John.

And again
It will end up black with silver highlights sooner than later ,2008 . Yeah !
My 56 A10, on the road now since 4 weeks.
Spent all winter rebuilding. Still trying to get a spark out of it, though.

Sorry 'bout that. Here she is:
Here's me on my little guy last fall. I took him out yesterday. it was 55 degrees. a lot of these bikes are unbelieveable, but i wish all of them were being ridden. my apologies, but some of these bikes just look too clean.
i have a few questions for anyone out there willing to lend some advice. i am thinking of putting clubman style bars on it. i know it will be less comfortable. while i am doing that, are there any ways to clean up that mess of wiring. it truly is a mess.
also, my speedo cable keeps snapping at the wheel hub. any lubrication suggestions?
Liam, please tell how you made the clear primary see-through window! pleeeeze. I have been planning to cut one here as well.
Steve
Lovely machines, guys. Keep 'em coming :bigt:
@69RoyalStar, when fitting lower bars or clip-on bars or whatever, you should move the footrests backwards as well.
When I removed the high bars from my American spec Bonneville years ago and fitted clip-ons ( just below the top yoke and almost level ), I also moved the footrests to the rear and slightly higher, what resulted in a much more comfortable riding position on long journeys. Not to mention the added cornering fun ...
Peter
At last my 1954 B31 plunger is finished after 1.5 years of restoring. With good result if i may say. Need some adjusing of carb. and finding the right oil level for the primary bcause it's spilling now so it must be to high i think.
Any way i'am happy with the out come and adjusting of these bikes is always required i think.
My homepage
peter,
i was planning on using the rear (passenger) set of footrests. wouldn't that work? or should i suck it up and buy and install rearsets?
No, the rear footrests are too far backwards.
I placed mine just behind the Bonneville' s gearbox and modified the engine plates to do so. As it was a later model with the hydraulic braking system, I also moved the master cylinder on top of the gearbox to get it out of the dirt.
Parts from some cars ( including a clutch pedal from a citroën 2cv ) and a bit of welding did the trick.
Gear lever was simply reversed.
Good luck,
Peter

I hope this works....!
Just bringing this thread forward, so it doesn't get included in the upcoming thread pruning. I enjoy viewing all the great pics in it.
I cleaned up my 66 a little:
Here is my winter project which has a couple hundred miles on it now. Kinda ugly, but I sure like riding it. Hornet crankcases off ebay, 68 guts renewed from the sludge tube out, new .020 over Taiwan pistons, a Thunderbolt head with 928. Honda front brake stops pretty good. My first modern tires and my first bright headlight.
As it is not here, I thought I should add my Road Rocket mongrel....
John
Sweet machines. Could you post some closeup shots of the 52 fuel tank so I can better see the paint scheme. It looks beautiful.
Thanks
Gordo

Here's my 55 Golden Flash.
Here's my weekend's acquisition ... 1967 A65T Thunderbolt.
I would like to get it back to original spec - know that the pipes need to be changed and replace original ignition and steering lock barrels, and maybe colour (not sure of the colour) - but other than that unsure at this stage !
i would say it looks great now........ride it
Some great looking bikes.
Lots of A10 projects it seems these days.
This will be my next project.
I've been collecting bits for several years now.
My plan is to do a ISDT wannabe.
Alloy tanks/fenders, scrambles seat, etc.
Time to get this back on the first page.
here is my B31 in day of purchase:
Not sure if I should leave the color as is (I guess historically correct) or go maroon. The electrical stuff (nagdyno) is ready, in week or 2 engine will be ready and then I will start working on gearbox while frame is being taken case by specialists (my painting skills sux)

Heres my OIF A65. I think she's a real beauty
You think correctly, Roth: she is a beauty.
Congratulations.
What year is this bike, '72 or '73?
Thanks Ger.. Now it's confession time. She was built in Feb 1971, shipped to the States, then re-patriated in late 1973, thus she has a UK 'M' registration. Therefore that's why I went for the later colour scheme rather than the Bronze/White/Dove Grey. I'd like some feedback please on whether the Tank is close to BSA Firebird Red. I only had a contemporary Brochure to work from !!
You fooled me with the black frame. My T-bolt is dove grey and shows even the smallest speck of oil or dirt. Black is more practical.
About the red: it is difficult, or rather: almost impossible to judge a colour from a computor screen or from a print from a printer.
But why worry? You would not sand this colour of your tank and pannels and respray them, if they were slightly out of tune, would you?
Ride it with pride. :bigt:
Thanks for your positive comments Ger. I do enjoy riding her and don't worry (too) much about the shade of red. Hope no purists are checking this string out !!! LOL
This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't touch the cosmetics on that bike. It looks perfect just like it is, very period.

It needs new paint - looks nice on pics, but only because someone has sprayed it with black paint w/o cleaning rust/old paint. I bought it only seeing pics, but could have been worse

Here's my latest acquisition. A strange bird, but there are so many cool and unique things about it I'm having a blast with this one.
by george you wont see many of those around.....i know you'll wear the tires out quickly....i had a micro metisse ISDT special with zundapp sunburst head motor back in the 70s .like a nit i sold it for a few hundred bucks
Wade,
You sure make it look easy. I love the seat and the black tank.
Dave
This is a pic of my 68 Spitfire, back when it was whole. My dad bought it new in 1968 and it's been in various states of assembly since I was a baby, though it's never been off the road for more than a few years in its entire lifetime.
It will be whole again soon.

My 1970 BSA T-Bolt, I didn't have a real close up yet , but you get the picture. It is actually as good a running bike as the triumph, and maybe for sure better.

What's up, Bob: Did you park your bike on Al Capones drive?
ger how is your bod doin since the accident?good i hope. i'm hangin in , but ya just don't seem to heal as fast when you get up aways.I'm going to look at a 2003 honda 750 ace in the morning,if it runs as good as it looks, it'll be mine this time tomorrow.Iam giveing up on the triumph, as far as rideing this year.although, i rode it today , man she sings along the road pretty good!
maybe i can get away from kicking and ****ing the bike back on the center stand for awhile.
my wife hasn't said much, but she 'll be kool with it. ................i hope, shes outa town, on a holiday up by canada.she has a little stonehouse her dad left her.

how is your bod doin since the accident
If I had broken a bone, the plaster would have come of now, and it would have been over.
What I have now will take longer, but with help of fisiotherapy and motion exercise the shoulder slowly improves. The wrist is still painfull when I make the wrong movements. But it does not prevent riding the bike. Driving a car is more difficult (steerng wheel movement).
Thanks.
Here is my 66 Hornet replica coming together, engine is finished. Thanks to ebay, Baxter's, Domiracer and jmatch.
My latest project-a '69 Lightning. It is fairly rough, having been in a shed for many years, but it runs quite well, and is mostly un-messed with. A few parts were scavenged over the years, unfortunately.
I've neve seen one this color (flamboyant blue?), but it appears to be the original paint, and the PO assured me this was correct-is it?
Anyway,my T100R project will be wrapping up soon, and then I can start in on this. As it is actually a low-milage un-messed with example, I want to study it carefully before I do anything.
hello Mr Jeep I just picked up a 69 lightning it came from underneath a lean to shed the tank was almost completly gone but the bottom shows a metallic silver looking base coat and a candy blue top coat I think thats flamboyent blue there is a guy selling one in walnecks cycle trader says he,s got the only blue lightning ever made.

is the wing on the tank badge really green then red white and blue?
The "BSA" letters in the tank badge actually have a blue background-the PO painted in the letters in red, white and blue. (The person I got this from bought the bike from the original owner-he assures me it has no more than 7000 miles on it,and the condition of the original tires makes me believe this)
The experts will give a definitive answer...but Lightnings were blue only in 1970 ....maybe yours is a late model 69 and they switched colors but still titled as 69.
HJere is a 1969 catalog picture courtesy of BSA Club NSW Australia
http://www.bsansw.org.au/catalogs/1969/69-10.jpg
I have that very same brochure-I picked it up at a dealership in '69 and kept it all these years-back then I dreamed of owning a Thunderbolt.
The serial 3 on this bike is A65L NC13xxx. The title calls it a '69, but who knows? the bike has most definitely not been repainted. The sidecover decal is not the same style as in the ad,though. I'd like to know if this is a "real" '69 or not.
G'day Jeep44,
Looks like a '69 to me and the numbers are good to go with it.The first month of the 'Triumph' style numbering system.

Hi, I'm new to the site, how do I post a pic (jpeg or bitmap) of my bikes?

New here post an intro, here is the bike
This is the coolest BSA chopper I have ever seen. Do not change a thing! Super Cool.

Here's my '66 Tbolt I've had for about a year. Just got the tank and covers painted.
Peter
Incidently, I found out the hard way that Emgo mufflers will not work on these pipes - they have different internals than stock mufflers that prevent the pipes from going in far enough for the mounts to line up. Anybody got 1 real BSA A65 muffler in great shape for sale???
Peter
Valk, I hate to be picky, but that's a '67 all the way - '67 tank, finned rocker cover, inspection cover over the alternator, alu backing plate on the rear wheel, and I'll bet the serial number starts with A65TA. Doesn't matter, except when it comes time to order a Spares manual. BTW, that's a gorgeous bike!
Hi Mark,
Hmm - you got me thinking. The tank I bought off ebay, so you're right regarding it being a '67. I also replaced the smooth valve cover with a finned one 'cause I think it looks cooler. Don't know about the inspection cover or alum backing plate. I do know that this bike was kinda thrown together at one point, so these items may indeed be '67. The engine number starts with just A65T, not A65TA, and the frame numbers are very difficult to read. So I think we're both right - it's probably a '66 with a lot of '67 parts.
Also has pre-'65 forks on her, I added a tach, new front fender and chrome chain guard, and painted the forks/frame.
Thanks for the compliment - I've spent a great deal of time fixing this baby up, and I think I've finally got a solid, reliable road-worthy machine (after stranding me no less than 3 times for 3 different reasons).
Peter
Does Brian from Oz still maintain his Photo Bucket site with Britbikes? There was a direct link to thas site on the old forum. I do not see it any more now.
Ger;
the link is still there. It has moved to the General British Motorcycle board, that's all.
Best regards
Phil
Found it. Thanks Phill. I thought it went away when Morgan opened the Galery.
How do you get a picture on here??????
What seat is on that hornet can you email me a full size picture of that bike
Thank you

Here is my 1st Brit Bike restoration project. 1967 B44R.
It started as a pretty complete, original bike. It was a cosmetic resto, the mechanicals were good but all the accessories, trim and fasteners were a disaster of bodged repairs and rattle can "restoration". The only major part I was able to keep was the seat.
Replaced. refinished & re-chromed all and put a nice paint job on it. Had lots of good advise from this forum and I thank eveyone for that.
![[Linked Image]](https://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t29/gper70/DSCF1669.jpg)
Nice job, Desert. Congratulations. :bigt
But please tell us you shot these pictures in a greenhouse...
Here my
[email protected] freeze off.
Eventually got down to place a picture of my '71 A65T, OIF. Although the motor was running, rest was in a bad condition, latest paint coat before I got it was a hand painted mat black, which included all the chrome parts. Personally, to me it was a step of faith, taking on a Brit bike, previously only experience in Japanese, well, I am on my third now, with an Ariel, '50 KH plunger, waiting its turn. Spares from all over the world, must say, without modern communications, restoration of old bikes would be very challenging.
![[Linked Image]](https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/Barendj/30Dec072-1.jpg)
Ger,
How is you BSA doing after the accident you had?
Barend
Your bike looks great, Barend. I trust she rides as she looks.
Mine has got a new front fork. The frame was not bent, neither was the front wheel. Eventually she came out of the crash better than she went in.
So now it's wait for warmer weather.
Sorry Ger,
It's my front yard the day before Christmas.
A small benefit to living in the "desert"
Downside........................No tulips?
D-rat your B44R puts my survivor to shame. I guess I'll have to take solace in my riding partner. I read somewhere that export B44Rs, which presumably yours is, in 67 were badged as Shooting Stars not Victor Roadsters.
Another one lives, today was the big day! My Hornet replica, started with A65H crankcases off ebay. Rides good, but today I needed heated grips. Thanks to numerous good ebay sellers, jmatch, Baxter Cycles, and Domiracer.
![[Linked Image]](https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q196/osbornagain/DSCN0915.jpg)
great job, Win...i got those same white sidecovers but forgot the name of the company..
A good one Win. I like that Horent rear fender. Where the heck did you find it?
Those new sidecovers are from Michigan, seems like his ebay handle is spiderbear.......something like that. I've bought a couple sets.
Gary: It isn't a Hornet fender. Its a Lightning repo fender I chopped off up front. This fender is kind of a sore point with me.......goes back a few years and involves my first and only dealings with a certain notorious ebay seller in Chicago. In fact, it represents the only time I've ever really been screwed in 300 ebay deals. I was pissed and threw the fender up in the attic for a few years.
The fender was twisted, and the radius isn't right or something. Didn't really notice till I was mounting it, and didn't feel like pulling fender off another bike to compare. Look at my pic again: the very rearmost point of fender should be closer to tire. If you saw bike in person, you'd notice right away. Something to work on another day.
The sidecovers will be painted that orange color we discussed- to match an NOS, (but damaged) orange tank I scored.
Win, I remember you telling me about that fender fiasco. But it looks good from here. Your bike looks like a Hornet to me.
Hornet fenders stick out the back more than the others anyway. My east coast Hornet fender sticks out 6.125" from the NOS 4.00x18 K70, whereas the '68 Firebird rear fender sticks out 4.125" from a slighly used K70.
Did you move the bolt hole doublers underneath or do without them? I am going to make a Hornet fender from a standard one by sectioning it forward of the rear support.
Oops, I think I hijacked the subject of this thread. I'll quit.
This is my almost original `69 Lightning 650.

Hello Rocker!
Hello everybody
Its my first steps at britbike.com.I have already started to send some pics of my homemade special A10, witch i called "Dark Star".It has got the look of a bike from the 30ts but got good performance with a Super Rocket motor from 196. And its got good brakes, because its not a show-bike. Its a GO-bike!
You can find some more pics under A10-Dark Star.
Thanks for this forum. Its the best i have found so far!

Hi, this is my 1964 A65 star, it's a lovely ride.
Hans
Hans,
Nice BSA, my favorite style is the early Star series.
Richard
Richard,thanks,I agree with you.
She has that opulent tinware which was the lifestyle of the early sixties.I am a great fan of that era.

1964 BSA Lightning Rocket:
Frame: A50B2117
Engine: A65D 1275
Despatched to BSA New Jersey June 18th 1964
First year of the Lightning Range. BSA used metal side covers which they replaced with glass fiber either late 1964 or for 1965 Range.
Subtle features: Stadium Mirror, NOS Amal grips

Looking good! Great before and after comparison.
Realy nice Richard, high standard renovation. Congrats.
Prost Hans.
This is BSA # 2 for me. (running) The good fortune I had in finding this bike makes up for the exorbitant amount of money I have in the red Lightning that I am usually seen on. Got the lead from Tom and it may have turn out better then I had even hoped for. After my next visit to the UK, it will take another transformation. I dont know if I will ever completely restore this spitfire, as it is missing nearly everything that makes it so but it is a matching # bike.

Thanks a ton to Nick Cedar for his excellent photography. He knows his stuff.
Yo Gary: The only possible way that bike could look any better is if had a few gas and oil stains on it, maybe a spot of mud on the tires.
Here you have the Firebird 71 from Sweden
out for the first time this year and just hosed off so the tinkering with everything is just starting (paint, polish and so on)
and before the originalfreaks rise their voices
I know it´s not original,
but it will be and I don´t want a museum objekt I want a bike I can use everyday if I want and thats what i have,
after 5 years it is still running strong(a little low oilpressure when warm but ok this summer)
the biggest problem has been the generator (shorted out)
so this winter it´s roller conversion and right colours on the scheme and new rim rear and new spokes front
PS the blue and white is a joke from the Painter it´s the local footballteams colours
Ok Win,
You caught me. They are there, but on the left side. That is why the pictures are both of the right side of the bike. LOL
I think the valve stem caps are incorrect. They should me nickel not plastic..
Richard.
Regardless it is the best Hornet on planet earth.
All right you guys. Put your magnifying glasses away.
All of the pictures in the factory catalogs show black plastic caps, or, ok, black painted nickel caps. I'll try to do better on the West Coast Hornet. I can't sneak anything by on this thread.
Gary
I don't disagree and this could be great news because we/a few of us who disagree with a group of judges for Bater International who claim the correct valve stem caps are the nickel type with the slotted tool to remove the valve.
This slotted tool is covered with a small plastic cap. The nickel caps with tool are not hard to find, but plastic covers are very difficult to find.
Bikes have won and lost because of this minutia.
I am starting a campaign to overturn this criteria and will be submitting photos to verify my disagreement.
Richard
Richard,
If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.
![[Linked Image]](https://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n188/vetterdog/Bsa1.jpg)
Here is the "before" picture. It is a 67 A65 and is currently a rolling chassis, but I think Im chopping off the rear and making a very classic hardtail out of it. It'll look like it's from the 40s; pedestrian slicer, leather fork gaitors, Lycette seat, black powdercoated rims, etc. Will post when complete, maybe by August. I will be selling off stuff I don't need; swingarm, seat, grab rail, shocks, more. Will post a list when I figure it out.
Yes the BSA is behind the new Triumph please go easy. '69 A65T
1963 Star Twin - Original Paint and accesories..almost runner that needs a new primary side bearing.
Can't work on it until I sell something though.
Interesting set of tank badges on that bike.
From what I have been able to find out they should be the same colour as the tank so the while badges should have been on the ivory bikes and yours should have been red.
Just in case you do not know, white ( and light blue) ones are very rare as the new owners of the tooling ( and production rights) will only make them in 3 colours and steadfastly refuse to sell them unpainted so that we can paint them the correct colours ( if you believe these is such a thing)
Nice find SG.
Trevor: Are these to red?
[click]
The tank badges of this Star Twin are strictly those of the original. I have the same model of BSA and I look identical badges for years. Hope gives life. In my view, whe have here the most beautiful A65.
Here are some shots of my '71 Tbolt. No, it is not even close to original but I like the way it looks.

Brian
Hi Trevor,
I will look into it. I'm the third owner of this bike and it looks to not having been mucked with.
Thanks Ger. It is way cool. I can't wait to get into the bottom end. It came with a set of driving lights as well and I have a blown up copy of the original Instruction Manual! The front brake must be glazed over as it is the worst brake I have ever used...
TTFN,
Nice bobber Hacksaw. I have always lusted for such as this. But now unless it falls into my lap I'm afraid it will never happen....
Semper,
BSA used to paint the tank badges to match the tank colour so the white bikes had while badges, the blue ones had a light blue one, red ones were red and black ones were black. Some had gold logos and some had silver.
They also used different colour badges to identify different variants. B31 and B33 got different colour variations as did Gold Flashes & Rockets so there was no absolute consistency.
It is the sort of thing you can do when you own the company that makes the badges.
Other problems came at the dealer lever where badges were swapped around to please the customer or to make last years old stock look a little different.
AFAIK the white badges were only ever used for one year and were never available as a spare part all bikes 59 to 65 have the same part number 40-8014 but the catalogues for these years show 6 different colour combinations and there is no suffix listed that would match the colours if they were ordered as a 8014/?????? to specify the colour required. 1966 seems to have a different number ( all models ) as dose 1967 all models.
Just one of these silly things that keeps me amused and allows me to really annoy the nut & bolt nazis at concourses.
G-day from OZ ive been looking for a bsa for ages i only have a 250cc lic and i did really want to up grade it because the last thing i rode was a 1960 li series 2 Lambretta so i finally found a BSA C25 Barracuda 1967 but their is very little imforation on this great little bike i purchased it for $4,000 ozzie dollars and its in pritty good nick it does need licencing but thats about it so if anyone has any inforation that could help or links i would be very gratefull...........sorry about the spelling...Cheers Phil sorry how the hell do u post a pic
barracuda, I like the look of that tank, do you know if it is an original? got any pics from other angles?
sorry I haven't any info to offer
Nice looking bike.
WA has a vintage ( limited use registration scheme ) but you will have to be in one of the local clubs to access it.
In Perth there is a Harley & BSA club, a Vintage Club and I think a Classic Club as well.
Albany has a Vintage Club and that is about the limit of my knowledge of the WA scene.
You could try <
http://www.vmccwa.com/>
Or go to the home page and search beeezabill who is one of the list members from WA currently he is posting to the " A 10 rocker box thread".
go there, and click onto his name, that will bring up his contact details
Hi barracuda67,
All BSA unit- singles are basically similar. You can still find new or used manuals, like the "Haynes BSA Singles". It covers all models from 1958 until 1972.
Good luck

Stunning machine you got there, Doug

Here goes uploading a pic of my 71 Lightning again !! I think she's a beauty !!
Did you not post this bike earlier? About a year ago? Or is it my Alzheimer?
Yes Ger you are correct, but as you discussed with me some time ago, the picture disappeared (problem with photobucket)? Therefore i've re-downloaded it for your viewing pleasure...
Here is my newest, just got home with it. B33.........apparently no one alive today has ever heard it run. I'm gonna have to hit the books on this one.
but as you discussed with me some time ago
Sorry, I forgot. Must be my... , what are we talkin'bout again?
LOL!!! No probs Ger.. Heres to some more of this sunny weather we are having.. Happy Biking..
This is one the rivit counters can break their teeth on.
A beauty down to the details.
Love the hand painted striping - is that a B33? 350cc model? The front fender forks look like something off a later bike(???)
wow! Someday....
Here is my bike in progress.
the final will look close to this.
My friends A65 Lighting Clubman, a genuine one, the numbers are correct.
He does't want to restore it, just ride.

Now, if I could just get confirmation on what color this thing was? Dark Royal Blue or Silver with red stripe?

very nice bike, I am more of a caferacer gay myself but I can apreaciate the works put into a bike like yours, by the way what sort of paint did you use on the exsaust headers?
I am about to paint a set for my new project and everything I have used so far is crap, last for only a month ore so befor its start rusting.
Richard your bike is very clean. I really like its look. TC

I am about to paint a set for my new project and everything I have used so far is crap, last for only a month ore so befor its start rusting.
The paint I used was "Dupli-Color" High Temp. I did not read the instructions and painted the pipes. But it says to apply thin coats and then it will cure when the pipes are heated up from use. I unfortunately got a lot of paint on my pants on the first ride.... The paint has held up...OK.... but the white is not as white as you see in the photos. Right where the pipe comes into the head itself, I had some paint flake off. It might be my prep work wasn't so good there. The other pipe better. Any grease or oil that gets on the white seems to get baked on.... it may need to be cleaned with scotch brite to make the white whiter!!!!
I think what I will do this winter is to re paint the pipes.... and bake them in an oven. (before ever going on the bike) The original pipes were chrome plated.... but I am not having a rust problem. Also.... consider that I am still in the break in period on this bike.... I like the white.... but I think it may be an ongoing maintenance thing.
Thanks for your comments.
Richard your bike is very clean. I really like its look. TC
Thank you Tony.
I appreciate that!
Which is before and which is after?
Good job, Doug. I like it.
Hey Doug, seems you were lucky to find a complete bike.
You did turn it into a stunningly beautiful machine too !
Peter
Yeah, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon it. And it was all there.
Found this Spiter this summer, had to have. Now I'm in trouble.

For the last picture you should have chosen a better background.

Fantastic bike though, Mike.
Congeratulations.
My bike was taking a wizz!!!!!!
Two Classics:
Nice Classics indeed !
Not 2 though, the Beech 18 in the back is a true classic as well

Not sure about the red aeroplane... Stinson maybe ?
Bike looks great - certainly in good company !
Peter
1929 Bellanca, first airplane owned by Hawaiian Airlines, discovered in dilapidated condition in Washington State, restored there and shipped to Hawaii last month. A select group of Hawaiian Airlines pilots will be flying it. Has been re-powered with the same P&W 985 as the Beech 18 cargo ship in the background. We fly the 18 regularly to ship cargo to the outer islands.
Cheers!
Thanks for the info, Nick.
Lovely machines - all 3 of them !
Peter
Eleven cylinders in one picture (if I counted correctly).
How many HP is that radial engine?
450 hp ( if I am not mistaken ), Ger.
A lot of pullin' power indeed
Peter
This is to provide a little inspiration to Ger while he rebuilds his T-bolt. Tomorrow 2009 11 07 Saturday I'm leading a ride of BMW's on a club IBA Saddlesore 1000 attempt. The weather is perfect (no rain) with temps that should range from 6'C to 20'C.
The route goes from Atlanta to Columbus GA to Montegomery AL to Mobile AL to Jacksonville FL to Savannah GA and ends in High Falls State Park GA.
The 1971 Thunderbolt is packed and ready to go. So here is a "thank you" for putting up wih all my dumb questions.
TTFN,
You are rubbing it in you ... you... I better stop or I will be banned for life.
But a big thumbs up for the BSA leading the Beemers. :bigt
Have a safe trip SG.
PS: I like the small pillow you strapped on your seat. I've been thinking about ordering my wife to make me one but on second thoughts I think I'll ask her...
The pillow is a self-inflating deer stand cushion from BassPro shop. It's about $10 dollars. I think you can order one online. Let me know if you can't get one.
I think we have them here for people with a split ring...
Thanks to GG, I finaly have a respectable tank for both the street Victor
AND the dirt Victor, and although I have never been a fan of the
'It only comes in Yellow' thing, I do like that almost original look.
Cheers

Nice bikes Dennis B > Where do you ride it off road? Might make the hornet off road like it supposed to be.
Hi Wade,
not many places around here, other than the back yard.
Best place I know of is in Ohio!
I have tried BGE power line property,
but they don't like that very much. And will
call the cops.
If anyone knows of a spot for off-road riding
anywhere near the Washington- Baltimore metro area
I'd love to hear about it.
Cheers

Well guys, here's the infernal SS90. Pretty much done except for front mudguard stays and that sticky exhaust valve:
Alex,
Looking good, get a fender on it, so I have a ride in December...might just head down for the mid month b'day party, since so many of us have a b'day mid December.....
Looking very good, Alex !
More pics please

Rich , is there actually a get together B'day party in December? Mine is the 19th - that is pretty close to mid December. So close to Christmas - I probably couldnt break away anyway, but maybe that is exactly the reason to breakaway
Well guys, here's the infernal SS90. Pretty much done except for front mudguard stays and that sticky exhaust valve:
Well I can say that this photo really doesn't do the bike justice, it looks a lot better in person. Very nice and not overly tarted up.
Sweet Alex...very sweet.....GG in another part of NC
Wade,
Chad, Pat, and probably one or two others from NC all have mid December b'days. I have been threatening to lower property values by visiting the boys from NC, figure this might be a good excuse. Besides, I need to schedule/burn another vacation day......18th looks like a good travel day for me....
Hummmmm That sounds interesting ..... Mine is the 19th and all. Whats the plan? Drunken Debauchery - pin the tail on the jackass? Anti women stuff or will there be better halves present? Mine may not like me disappearing on my birthday alone.
Hey guys, new here. Thought I'd post up a pic of my 71 Thunderbolt as it is today. The bloke I bought it off had it painted this hideous colour but I'll fix that later, for now it's running and ready for rego once I clean up the clutch plates. Had too much oil in it so their slippin pretty bad, but should be fixable.
Cheers folks,
S.S.
shes a sad and sorry thing..
Yeah BW - but you can smell the potential!
I vote fix it up!
mine looked worse than that......go for it

I took this photo a few years ago but have just now started to rebuild it. Not as bad as it looks. Caught fire with about 6k on it and was parked for 30 years.
Fantastic Brian! Cant believe the fiberglass did not melt or something??? Spitfire??? Hornet? Cant tell.
The tank was a hairy mess. 1966 Spitfire serial numbers. Has some nice things like Dunlop alloy rims, the 190mm brake, and left and right hand monoblocs. (mounted with the float bowls on the inside?)
Just picked this up last week. It hasn't seen the road since 1978. It kicks over, no spark (ordered a new wiring harness as it looks like mice made this bike their home for a bit, with their primary food scource being wire). The main problem is when I kick it over, compression is leaking out of the top front nut on the rocker cover. Any thoughts? More to come very soon.

darbone,
I posted the actual pic, so we could all see it.
Tell us something about it.
Thanks for that. I'm not good at computer stuff.
It's a 1955/1956 CB34 GS I acquired after years of pestering it's former owner. It had been sitting in his shop for many years awaiting attention. It already had a lot of work done to it by Jim Nichols, the shop machinist. The top end is newly redone and the front brake is a hybrid Suzuki/Yamaha piece that Jim made up. It had a Dellorto SS35 carb that I've since replaced with a newly rebuilt 389 monobloc. It has nice Akront aluminum rims with stainless spokes and new Avon tires. The frame had been powdercoated. I have it all wired up, timed and ready to fire but I'm away for the winter and won't be back to it until March. I still need to save and buy a speedometer and a front fender.
There are more pictures of details of the bike in my album at

Would appreciate some advice as to how to post pictures.
Thanks
Wayne,
Hit on this link below and it should bring up a thread that gives all the directions for posting an image. It may look overwhelming at first, but it is easy once you get the hang of it. An account (no cost) at the photobucket website is neccessary.

Help
I want to post a picture from photobucket. Every time I do it I just get the HTML code instead of a direct image.

Richard,
After you have loaded and labeled an image in photobucket, there are 4 choices to hit on in the 'share' box. Hit on the last one of the which is 'image code'. It should turn blue.
Then go to your edit choice at the top of your screen and hit on 'copy'.
Bring up the Britbike thread and hit on where you want it in your message, and move up to 'paste' at the top of your screen and hit in it. It should put the 'image code' in the message.
Hit on 'preview reply' below your intended message to see it worked.
When I post images I have both Britbike and Photobucket open so as to make all the steps more convenient and go faster.
Hehe, worked indeed !
Great looking bike BTW.
Not sure if it' s any more simple than using Photobucket or any other image hosting service, but there' s others like
http://www.tinypic.com/ as well.
Best of course, is when you have personal webspace ( most internet providers even give you some space for free ), or some webspace you hire. Over the past years, prices have dropped tremendously, so maybe worth having a look around...
Peter
Hey Richard, I backwards engineered your 'a href' attempt to your photobucket file ( you can make it so one needs a password I think :>), no harm, no foul) but, is this your A-10?
What a beauty!!!
Did I see that at that excellent bike show you all had there recently?
Hi Bodger,
I am amazed you can do that, guess I should get a pass word.
Yes this was at the Avala Show, belongs to a friend Jan Riefenberg. I did some clean up for him.

I got it, a winter sidecar.
Here is my favorite. If I remember correctly this bike was posted rigt hereon the board as BSA parts. After several emails, inquiries and pics it ended up being pretty much a complete bike and other than some heavy patina, was pretty much stock.
And the nice thing is I paid $300 for it. Now before I get beat up like the last guy who got a great deal on a BSA, I am not selling LOL! Well maybe for that 2K I seen offered! LOL!
Hello choppadude
I don't suppose you would be interested in helping to answer some questions regarding valenced rear mudguards on the following post?
http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=292858#Post292858Your bike looks very original and complete and some information regarding spacers and reinforcing straps would be much appreciated by myself and Jim.
Thanks.

Here's my new loved one, A 1965 A65 Star
Just picked up
With the full nacelle and the A10 fender it speaks of the year before 63-64 and the side cover well you need some parts but nice find even if it is earlier BSA.
The U.S. A-65’s from 64-65 ran a deep headlight with the speedometer but on fork ears and the fender is much narrower up front. Stars did not have the chrome just a plain red paint plain Jane. Not saying change it, looks good, just saying doesn’t seem to be a 65 by U.S. standard.
The side covers can be found, they cover the carburetor because they front mount on the intake manifold stud (longer than normal) using a rubber-plastic type bushing.
I have a 1965 Star and it has been hard to find the correct front fender, headlight shell and fully enclosed chain guard.
Your bike seems far upgraded in many ways from the Star. More like our Thunderbolt U.S. model of those years. Nice bike.
The sidecovers are not original (hobbybob) made..
I.ve got the original's one bolt metal covers aswell.
for as far i could find some info its a "early" unit twin.
The fenders are also not original..,but the i like the old chrome style, so i will let them stay on it

i will make him look like its just put off the streets in 1965.
Im also NOT planning to make him as new..i like the old used style, metal is in good condition no rust

The tank is also repainted(hobbybob style

) underneath it was a metallic red paint (candyapple?).
Can somebody tell me where to find the original collor numbers for this model?.
Its also a non US model.
Here is one of this winter's projects. Kinda ugly, but light and quick and made completely of neglected pieces I've dragged home:
That isn't ugly - I've seen far uglier with far more money put into them. I like it!
My 1960 BSA B40
Wow, an early production machine ! Looks nice, but an image in the open - showing more of its side - would be even better ...

Looks pretty original to me. Even the seatcover ??
Peter
1972 Thunderbolt.
Bike is original except for the paint color, sportster front fender, emgo mufflers and Commando home market handlebars.
Decent Cycles went through it and upgraded the electrical system. In particular installed a sub harness with 3 relays that has the electrics working very well.
Put alot of miles on it at Bike Week. It ran perfectly and was surprisingly fast.

Very sharp looking Goldie, you did an excellent job on that bike, the frontbrake mod looks good too, what bike did this brake come from ? just curious...
It's from a Suzuki. Required quite a bit of fabrication

You can not have been too far off the mark Darbone.
I think you had the web page URL and not that of the image itself.
The bike is a piece of art.
There are 19 pics in Darbones Flickr album.
I like this one:
![[Linked Image]](https://farm5.static.flickr.com/4064/4545547225_84e4abc97e.jpg)
Kevin is correct about the URL, Darbone.
- In your Flickr album open the Picture you want to show us.
- Rightclick on the opened picture.
- In the roll menu click on PROPORTIES.
- In the pop up menu select the URL of that picture.
That's the URL which will show the picture.
In the menu above the Brit Bike window in which you type your message be sure to select the correct icon. You need the fourth from the left which is called "Enter an immage".
It is possible you used the second one from the left "Create a link to a web page".
Thanks guys- Appreciate the comments and the instructions for posting. I'll save them for when I'm done with my 1958 A10 Super Rocket. I'm loving the BSAs

As I was telling Gordon, I've got some plans that day but I might be able to haul it out real early. Just not sure if 3 hours driving will be worth an hour or two to hang out...let me mull it over.
Looks immaculate, Alex !

Hello. Just bought this 1967 Thunderbolt. All I have done so far is put on new tires, got it tagged titled and inspected and rode it to work. P.O. had recently installed battery and rebuilt carb. Tags had expired in '96 so I guess it had not been on the road in 14 years. Gotta love that quick change rear wheel!

By way of a first post, thought I'd show off my new (to me) 1971 A65 Thunderbolt.
Its been in Ohio all its life until now, having just been brought back to UK.
4500 miles on the clock and 100% original, apart from the paint scheme I think?
All Ive had to do is fit new tyres, new battery and overhauled the carb.
Runs like a dream!!..........

Happy days!!

V.
Ventura -- I like it! Good use of the slipper tank. Remember it had turn signals....
Is that a decal on the tank? Or a badge on top of a decal?
Good job!
Welcome on board, Ventura.
apart from the paint scheme I think
The '71 frames were grey (dove grey as it was called) for the better part of that model year.
I'm not sure about the tank.
But who cares.
On the black frame you do not see the oil stains and your bike look wonderfull.
But to complete it, add the turn signals SG mentions.
Cheers for the positive comments Chaps!
Im really happy with my new addition.
The records show its a Sept '71 bike which went to the States in Jan '72, returning to UK in 2008.
Thanks for the advice on the turn signals too. Thats one thing (or 4!) which I wasnt sure about.
But I think you're right, it looks like they've been removed in the past.
The cabling and switchgear is there, as is the flasher unit etc.
Also the mounting lugs on the rear carrier seem to have been carefully ground off.
So thats my next job sorted then!! A set of Lucas indicators!
Oh, and its a metal badge on the tank SG.
Thanks again.
V.

Is that a stock rear luggage rack? Never seen one like it, it's a neat thing. I've cobbled an oversized "universal" rack onto mine because I couldn't find anything else to fit.

Ventura spoke about his latest bike..
The records show its a Sept '71 bike which went to the States in Jan '72, returning to UK in 2008.
I would have thought it would conform more to a 1972 model in that case. To me I would be going by the dates, the black frame, seat pattern and fork sliders. I would not hesitate to be labelling it as a 72 bike.
I am sure others here will have thoughts.
Oh, the mufflers of course...
Looks nice. Well done.
Just want to say hello to all Forum members. Its quite a while since I visited the forum, did a lot of great rides since then. Here a pic in the German Black Forest. The A10 is great for travelling, my favourite bike! Wish you all a great summer.

I like that paint. Picked up the 60's spitfire theme from my perch and improved on the stock look.
but it only cost $250

So far everything has been savable except the back rim,,and oil tank..Motor is stone stock,,never been opened. I'm honing the jug now and fitting new rings. Taking lower end to someone who knows more than I ,,so it will have a good bill of health..Fork tubes should be in soon and front end will be done..next to an old Servi-car ,,this is the[quote][/quote] most I have gotten to do all myself, and im enjoying it,,hope to ride by Oct
jimt100's Lightning was so nice I had to wait a few posts before I put up I shot of mine.

Good looking project with all the tinware. How did a bike with a UK registration plate end up in PA? I thought that all the old BSAs crossed the Atlantic in an Easterly direction.
Very nice Tyler. Is that a 65 B40? No distributor?
Do you have the sidepanel for the ignition switch/aircleaner surround?
Center stand is intact, side stand missing?
Good find.

I was told it was a 65 B40. I do not have the side stand but the center stand is intact. No distributor it still has the points. In the pics a bunch of peices are missing but i have them all. The previous owner started taking the bike apart but marked and kept everything. I wish i knew its history and why it still ahve an english registraion on it. I am going to keep that as part of the bike. The only peice im missing and really want is the registration plate that goes on the front fender. if anyone knows where i can find on let me know.
1969 Thunderbolt. My first BSA. Just got it a week ago. Gots lots of plans for it.
Thats a beautiful looking bike man
Thank you kind sir...Hopefully more beautiful in the coming weeks and months.
Bernie
Great work Nice Bike
I think I am done....for now.
the blue cleaned up off the pipe and I enriched the mix
This is one of the best here, Crash. Congratulations.
Tyler, looks like you have a 64 B40F, this was the first upgrade with sidepoints, uprated gearbox but retaining the bush timing side main bearing. To check conclusively look at the timing side crankcase just behind the barrel, there will be a small circular cover marking where the distributor was on the pre F's. The sump plate will be oblong not square. If the circular cover is not there and the sump plate is square then you have the 65 B40G, this has all the F's upgrades plus further improved gearbox and a ball bearing on the crank timing side.
EY identifies it as being first registered in Bangor Northern Ireland, guessing at the full reg is EYP 20 B or EYB 20 C, neither is showing online at the UK registration website so its been off the road for some years.
Kommando, aren't you a year off? Didn't the F series start with 65 models, and the G with 66? At least, that is the way it was in the US market, was it earlier for the Home market?
It's the
YP which denotes the county of first registration, not the EY. YP was a Central London registration mark. Still intrigues me how a Brit registered bike ends up in the US. It's just sheer greed; not content with 70% of the factory output when the bikes were new, the Yanks now want our barn finds too.
Steve, yes a year off and wrong on the 2 letters for the local licencing office too, but EYP20D gets no more info on registration.
Absolutely sheer greed Vicyclone... now send that GP over here, post-haste!

Numbers are the same as the rear so it will be EYP 20 B , the B is a guess as it identifies the year of first registration running Jan to Dec at that time.
A 01 February 1963 31 December 1963

C 01 January 1965 31 December 1965
D 01 January 1966 31 December 1966
thanks, it will be EYP 20 C

Here is my 1968 BSA A65 Thunderbolt, took five years to finish !
One more from the other side :
I work ay Daimler trucks, we make parts in Gastonia ! In was there last April.
Bob
oh Bob i think that used to be Freightliner there on I-85..its only about 12 miles from my house......my sister used to live in Eugene on a hippie commune......small world
Here`s my sons new bike, a one owner 50cc BSA Junior. It was made about `78 and has a Moto Morini engine. There was also a NVT (Norton Villiers Triumph) Tracker that was the same except the badges. The previous owner bought it for his kids but they didn`t like it so it went under a sheet for 30yrs. I know its not a Small Heath one, but I couldn`t resist. Shame my son is only 24 weeks old!

I see the post of my old t-bolt from 2007 is still listed with a broken link to the pic, which is ok since it's long-gone. Worry not, I still have a BSA, albeit somewhat smaller:
'68 B25 Starfire
hi there nice lil junior you have got there for your boy fun lil bike to start on there is a pic of mine on here its the bsa 140 post would like to know what ppl think of it thanks kev
Looking good Mark, I know it's been a long time coming!

Was the hardtail one of the donors or is it still rolling?
Sidecovers or no?
Don in Nipomo
Thanks Don; the hardtail FRAME is history (along with the HD rear fender and alu oil tank) - I traded it for some powdercoating work. The rest of the bike went into this 1970 frame.
HEy Mark,
Nice clean BSA. For whats its worth I run similar saddle bags mounted under the seat.
Works good for me.
Richard
Richard, I wanted to take this offline, but you're over your private message limit.
Yeah, I just threw those bags on in a hurry so I could carry stuff. I am interested in improving the mounting though; the way it is now, I have to remove the bags in order to carry a passenger.
But, with the strap under the seat, how do you keep the bags from swinging inward and hitting the rear wheel? With the hardtail frame, I had a fender stay there, but with the stock frame, there's nothing there to keep the bags away from the wheel.
I found this Post Office Bantam that delivered Telegrams in the Croydon area between 1970 & 78, in a back yard in 1988, condition in bits and full of rust with most Post Office fittings missing. Restored by 1992 I rode it continously, again restored in 2008 I have toured France, Belgium, & Luxembourg aboard it . Model BSA Bantam B175.

Sweet Lightning......
Here is my 1952 M33, just picked it up....plans are to keep it pretty much barn found except for a better tank, solo seat and maybe a better exhaust....eventually will work on making it nicer but just want to enjoy it like it is for a while...
Great find MotoMike... sidecar lugged and ready to roll.
I'd like try one out as a rig some time, bet it would make a pleasant tug.
Don in Nipomo
Sigh... Some people have all the luck...
Great find MotoMike ! :bigt Looks complete and ready to go.
Replacing that battered seat by a solo saddle, fitting an unrestored tank and giving it all a wipe with an oily rag would make it nearly finished.
Peter
Thanks Peter, thats my thoughts on it exactly.

All joking about missing parts aside, nice find Mike. Wish my M33 had been that decent of condition when I found it.
My M33 is a 52 also. Headlight ears were missing, so it is getting the alien head nacelle like yours has. The frame is ready to go for paint, bottom end is about to be reassembled as it the trans.
Good luck with it.
Better with the saddlebags under the seat, where they should be...

The only way to hang these high bags,

So I just picked this up in a snowstorm yesterday, I'll get a better picture. It's a 1970 Thunderbolt, it was parked 8 years ago in running shape, but as you can tell it was stored outside in Minnesota. God save the Queen!
First time at posting with a pic so apologies if I've buggered it up
This should be, the new to me, BSA B33 that i just acquired.

She's a 1954 B33 matching eng/frame (everything else is a mish mash of different parts).
It's a runner but I plan some mild fettling over the winter to get her in better shape for a lot of road use

Looks like a lot of fun! Keep us up to date on rides you take on it, there are very few of those old pre-unit thumpers actually on the road ... !
Lannis
Lannis,
Your disease for old british stuff has metastasized. Does it continue to spread with no signs of remission? The B33 was my bike of choice for old bikes before the preunits got so expensive. A friend of mine rode his B33 from Ft Smith, Arkansas to northern PA back in his service days. Pretty nice looking ride.
Mr Mike
Salty,
Sweet, the pre unit B range are sweet looking and running bikes....it may be a mish mash of other bits, but will make a nice looking bike...
Shame it has that new fangled thing called swing arm suspension...that is probably a fad that will face

Long live plunger suspension

I just looked at it again and realized that the front brake actuating lever is at an evil angle - you need that sorting before riding it! The SLS brake on my M21 is actually a good stopper, this one can be too. Not like you'll be pulling it down from over the ton!
Lannis
Lannis,
Sorry, I overlooked your post...nice bike Salty. But how many do you really have Lannis?
Mr Mike
Time to add my latest bike as well I think... This is a 1953 B33. I've not yet had the pleasure out on the road with it yet, but just sitting on it I notice the Alien head or Diver Helmet nacelle is just ''Huge'' gives the bike a real meaty feel to it. I'm intending to remove the double seat to place a sprung single seat. I'll be changing the carb back to a pre monobloc and will need to find a plunger tool box. Finally I'll have to repair the broken rear mudguard hinge. Plenty to do and all part of the fun!
Lannis,
Sorry, I overlooked your post...nice bike Salty. But how many do you really have Lannis?
Mr Mike
I'm just a piker when it comes to some of the bike collections people have here.
Total today is 9 in various states of deshabille ...
Lannis
I still get the urge to find another something to make a runner out of and I'd want it to be a pre unit, but space will become an issue and I will have to add a "South" wing to my shop. Sometimes I dream I might run into a barn find. Lannis you've still got plenty of room for more stuff.
Mr Mike
Nice bike LJ....something about the plunger singles....they just look good

Mike,
There are still pre units out there. But be prepared to become too focused on one when you get one, they are quite fascinating.

Halvin
Welcome Halvin, nice lookjing T-bolt. I still like the 71/72's...my first BSA was a 71 Lightning....
And you are from Ohio.... :bigt
Rich B,
Thanks. Not FROM Ohio but IN Ohio for the last 7 years. I'm from the part of the country where the riding season is longer. I also own a 77 Honda CB750 F2 and a 74 CB200. These reside in a garage with a 73 MG Midget. Lots of fun.

Richard....Great job, the bike is beautiful!
raf940,
Thanks for the advice on the fender. Haven't had time to spend on it but had wondered about the space between the fender and tire. Lots to learn about this bike.
Halvin
Hi Donalvin,
Love the Thunderbolt. I'm a fan of the OIF and have ridden mine all up and down the east coast including two 1000 mile in 24 hour trips. Go get 'em.
Richard - Jeeze that is a nice bike. You and Skeet put a lot of us to shame...
nice style on this black BSA, do you have more pictures ?
The design on the inner engine cover is interesting. Is the bike street ridden much? I don't see a mirror or horn.
Its ridden as my daily commuter. About 100 miles weekly plus sunday rides.. 3 seasons outta 4 anyway. Here in NC, we don't have to have bikes and cars older than 25 yrs inspected. So we can get away with alot. I had some cheap ebay bar ends, they kept coming loose. I got pulled over for speeding. The trooper gave me a warning about the tag being more visable. I've researched the laws regarding displing a MC tag in N.C. According to the DMV, " you will be provided a tag by your local tag office. It must be displayed on the rear of the motorcycle and kept clean"
That certainly leaves alot of grey area.
I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for a tag placment here, but I have heard of people being ticketed for a dirty tag.
No horn, watch for finger. Ha!

Govig,
look forward to more pics of your resto. Also would like to see more pictures of it as it is. Running?
Donalvin

First pic of a pretty French girl on here too! Perhaps she can show us how the restoration is going ... :bigt ?
2 Nice OIF BSA's. I am prejudiced since I have one too and rode it the most of all my bikes last year, but I think the OIF's are tops.
Here's another pic of it with new wheels and tyres. Apart from that I've just put a stainless exhaust on it for far and some very nice italian rear shocks that are copies of the fontana ones from a year or two back .
I'm just finishing off a three year T150V restoration and I've also got a Commando in about 20 boxes so the BSA is to keep me quiet
next winter.
![[Linked Image]](https://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll121/bakewellbiker/100_0070.jpg)
I think a nickel plated frame would look great on this bike. Has anyone plated a OIF bike frame?
Mrs govig is also a biker and rides her own modern MZ and a Honda XR
Peter, I think we have a similar taste in bikes. I have a 1150RT, Trident, oif BSA as you've seen and a Yamaha although its a WR 250. No KTM as yet...
Sympathique
Trident is being finished by Decent Cycles and the other bikes are all ridden as much as possible!
I think les femmes will fit on the Tridents better.
Regards

I like all the new faces / bikes on here now.... This hobby/lifestyle isnt going anywhere for quite a long time I'd say. Nice rides everyone... (French girls help too)
Here's a shot from the 2000 Victoria Hillclimb.

Hey Guys, I've been going through the pics on here and there are some really nice rides on here.
I've a 1952, Golden Flash, a M20, 2 x 1952 B31 plungers, a 1955 B31 swing arm and a Bantam super.Here are some picture of a few of my BSA's. I'll post some more as the pics come in.
The first ride is a 1952 Golden Flash, it had a B31 oil tank when I got it, I changed it out with tank that I got on ebay it came painted and pinstriped-I decided to leave it the way it is because I need to repaint the flash at some point and I'll get the oil tank done when I do that.
The second ride is a 1952 B31 plunger.

Flash looks nice as it is, so why not leave it like this ?

Restoring a 69 Lightning. A65
Keech,
Looks excellent so far.
Thanks Donalvin.. working on the motor rebuild at the moment. Crankshaft balanced for hopefully a smoother ride.
![[Linked Image]](http://media10.dropshots.com/photos/445921/20110222/182506.jpg)
Wow. That is a lot of material taken off the flywheel for balancing. And offset too.
Jack
Bikes looks good, and that is some LARGE drillings....yikes.
One more trick to the smooth running A65 puzzle, make sure the engine is shimmed to fit the frame. Most bottom mounts need something, some front mounts as well. BSA called it a "packing piece" on the older unit twins, the reference largely disappeared on the late unit twins. P/N is elusive. Though metric flat washers in stainless seem to be thin enough to work well as a shim.
Also make sure the head steady it installed and tight.
Thanks Rich, I will check that shimming. Actually weight wise, I dont think much metal was removed as the craters are fairly shallow. It was more of an experiment to see if it makes a difference.
Yes, They did a static and dynamic balance using bob weights on the journals. The place does a bunch of auto race motors.
Gap,, yes there is a 1/8" gap between the light and fender. I suppose it is not supposed to touch for various reasons but I think It could vary on the gap somewhat between bikes.
Allan .. it is pretty close but does not touch the bar.. probably .020" clearance. You can see daylight through there on both sides and thick paper does not touch.
Installed the bigger stator, and ready for the Barnett cluchpack.
Allan,, just a camera illusion. There is probably over 1/4 inch of threads left.
I don't know how they install big motors in bikes - this little guy was a handful.
Jack sez:
"ready for the Barnett cluchpack"
Hopefully you will have better luck than most....but IME, a Barnett clutch pack will have you tearing your hair out....

The MAP clutch pack is without a doubt, the easiest to get right clutch pack out there for a street bike.

:bigt
Thanks Rich, I will keep that in mind. What problems come with the Barnetts? What type of oil were you running on the clutch?
All Barnett wet clutches are designed to be run with synthetic or petroleum based oils. Thinking I will try the Synthetic for street use.
IMO, the worst problem with a Barnett clutch is the sticking. Even on bikes ridden frequently, the plates will stick in as little as overnight. Then you have to kick it over with the clutch released to break them loose. Worst case I personally experienced required removing the clutch pack to break the plates loose. That was the end of Barnett clutches in my bikes.
They also drag and seem to exhibit a large change in clutch adjustment between cold and hot. PIA when using a bike frequently.
But a stuck Barnett clutch pack makes a good paperweight
Wow.. guess I am sorry I popped for the barnetts. I will give them a try with synthetic as the slippery oil may help. I have tried to search the MAP's but cannot find anything? Do you have a site where I can get some info and costs?
Jack
Top left banner on the BB.com website has a MAP ad. Try MAP Cycle for your search. If I wasn't so lazy today....I would pist a link
No luck with MAP cycle. Searched for "Clutch" but nothing shows up. I will try some other sites.
I did check with a BSA shop that has been in the business for many years and this is their comment:
BSA and Triumph always have trouble with clutches, no matter whose. ,, You don't want to oil new plates before installation , use light weight oil and don't over fill the case. They tend to stick together when the bike sits and you need to free them up before starting the bike,, Oddly Nortons don't have the same problems,,
I have the MAP plates in my Bonnie and the last set were Barnett and I've never had to free up the clutch with either set.
mmmmmmm I see no one has mentioned Surflex plates...i have them in my bikes they work great
Assemble the top end..
Allan, I will look into that. Do you have a source where I can get such an animal?
I sure appreciate your help.. and what a sweet bike!!! Boy am I anxious now.
Allan... shouldn't tell anyone I helped you...
It might damage my reputation.
Glad I could help you get those horns mounted up.
Now here's the real deal..

Nice Bikes!! That is the good stuff!! Yes Allan, if you could get that rod length for me -- It's a good time to do the mod.
Question - Is the 3 spring kit the correct one?
And - I am trying to locate Frank Dheli - does he have a website?
Would it be safer to say i nicked details off your bike, during a conversation we were having at the time. Or you bike helping me against your wishes
Probably best to say I was complicit in the operation.
There's room for denial there, I had no idea what your intentions were.

Allan, I ordered it already from SRM Engineering. $89 delivered and they have them in stock.. Thanks for the help, and I am looking foreward to the delivery.

Here's my current project
Post a picture and tell us a little of your bike, if you`re in the mood :-)
I`ve been surfing around the net to find nice pics of bsa`s and other bikes and thought it would be cool if you guys would post pics of your bikes here.
I personally enjoy rigid frame bobbers, but nice original resto`s is always encouraging to see too ! Especially during the winter with snow and all. (yeah it`s really cold up here now...)And old racing machines tooo oh yes :-)
So go ahead post a picture !!!
Here's my current project
Nice.
Here is my new B44B SS. Got it last week.
Engine is broken. Missing some parts. But I hope to get it looking better soon.

Not the best shot. It's my old vintage GS race bike I raced in the NW from '85 to '95. Lots 'o' fun and lots 'o' stories. '59 frame and engine.
Again, a lot of great looking machines added to the list, guys !
Peter
Good looking machine Boomer, more pics please!

Started on building the racer in '83 out of parts I'd been collecting for several previous years. I believe the basic chassie and engine came with another Clubman engine/gearbox/primary that was still bolted into the cradle of a Clubman frame cut off at the swingarm and steering head. Paid $1000 for the lump along with fenders, tanks, and severed steering head with numbers that was also on the only paperwork. That was over 30 years ago. The fiberglass tank came later as the first year I ran a two gallon alloy scrambler tank. It came with the lace paint job of the period where they had laid the lace over the paint and added lots of clear coats over the top. I ran the scrambler gearbox for lack of an RRT2. Actually I liked the gearing as I could get a great jump off the line as the other Goldies were slipping the clutches to get going. Raced in Portland, Seattle and Westwood BC Canada from '85 to '95. The Westwood track was beautiful and challenging. We raced on Historic Race Weekend that was quite an event and I was lucky to be involved in the last five events.
I only see the photobucket homepage, Wink.
sorry not done it again will have to get 10yr old to help later
please be patient if this has not worked again

Here is Aka Homers 67tbolt
Aka Homer
OHHHH Homie , that sure is a nice lookin' bike.
And the Wink's as well! Like the big tank and the large side covers Wink.
Painted the A65L tank this week. The Lightning decals were cut to shape and applied before the clear coats.
Can someone tell me what kind of motorcycle I have. After my Dad passed away he left it to me, and i was hoping to know a little more about it. I know its a 1965 BSA 650, but that's all i know.
Well my mom said that my grandfather originally bought it in 1965 and it was blue, but then he painted it black and put chopper handle bars and a back rest. but he kept all the original parts in a little shed next to his house. So when my dad bought it from him, put all the original parts back on. on the title it says lightning bsa 1965 and the engine size is 650.
Allen
Looks to be a fairly complete Lightning Rocket. Engine S/N should begin A65D, frame prefix should be A50B. Front fender is not a big deal, 6 tab fenders can be found and decent ones repopped.
Grab rail is a typical deal from that era. Seat is not original cover, but not a big deal. Those air cleaners are hard to find....don't lose them!
LRs were painted red. Gold was for Lightning & Lightning Clubman models.
Lightning Rockets are interesting models. Lots of variations in a short production life.
Where are you located in Ohio?
Hmmm - to my knowledge the LR were all red. The blue ones were the single carb bikes. But who can be sure?
![[Linked Image]](http://oseinbu.webs.com/rotkasse/65_LR.jpg)
Best regards
I'd like to see pictures of these yellow, gold, black, and blue ones myself.
Funny thing is, I'm building an early A65, it is NOT an LR, because of the full loop frame, even tho' I have an A65D engine set of cases. The left side panel is red, the right is blue, the 4 gallon tank has the twin cable reliefs on the underside, and is a sun faded red.
I'd like to trade someone for a red side panel for my blue one. Or, buy a red right.
These panels have the one oddie fastener, and the funny socket hole in the front, for mounting on the carb stud of the early single carb bikes.
On another note, in Ola's posted pic, you can see the cable loops on the handle bars, that someone in another thread was asking about... I believe those are the short ones..
Where ARE you located, I'm in Columbus. Maybe, if close by, I could buzz by and help ID the bike?
I am also an OVBSAOC member, and could get you in touch with that group of enthusiasts....
Brett
As of right now the motorcycle is in Arkansas because we didn't have a lot of room in the garage, so my sister is holding on to it for me, but i can get different angled pictures of it. she can send me more but i live in southern Ohio.
Hi folks, I'm sorta new here. Registered awhile ago and then never managed to return. But now I finally got my Beezer so I'm back. Bike is a '65 T-bolt that the previous owner restored. Normally, I like to buy bikes as-is and tinker with them. But I could not pass this one by when it showed up for sale. It has a few mistakes, that I'm in the process of correcting. But he did most things right like rechroming original parts instead of replacing. Can't wait for Spring to take her on her maiden voyage. 800 miles on the odo since the rebuild. I know the guy that did the engine and even he said the guy spent money like a drunken sailor on this bike. Plus the PO was a fellow employee and we have mutual friends so I know the bike restoration is 100% legit.
So far I've found the BSA info to be a little more cryptic than Triumph info. It appears that the T-bolt came with a tach in it's first year, which was '65. I know that later T-bolts only had a speedo. I probably will be looking to the experts here for help in verifying some other details on my bike. In the meantime, here she is. Ain't she purty?
regards,
Rob
giving the engine number I think would help a lot.
It has been modified in some sort of way, but i would take a plunge and say its a "lightning rocket"
Handle bars are original, and the back rail, looks like an OEM aftermarket accessory - sold by bsa at the time. So is (i think) the engine crash bars.
tank, side panels and carbs are right for a LR, but you may want rid of the cola shaker silencers in preference for something a little more in tune with the bike.
I think the original colour would have been yellow. Black headlight and number plate. (full mudguard, this has been chopped)
It wouldn't cost a fortune on cosmetics to put it as standard, (depends on engine condition) or use as is.
The chromed covers on the air filter are quite rare now, the original filter bodies had holes all over and allowed water to get in, this was the cure. later on the covers remained un-drilled at the top to keep the water out, but I think this idea looks more practical.
Wow, small world. I just posted my '65 T-bolt. The PO told me the bike had this huge rail on the back that he threw out (it's killin me) but he saved the plaque off it that said BSA and I got that with the bike. I see you have the same plaque on yours. Not many of those around from what I can tell.
Nice bike and great family heritage you have there.

Rob

Hi, I know, 3 posts on the first day. But new BSA owner enthusiasm is hard to curb. I've been doing a lot of research since I got my '65 T-bolt a few months ago. It looks like '65 was a transition year and the brochure has '64 model year bike depicted instead of true '65 bikes. I say this based on actual bike photos I've found and my parts book. The PO for my bike did a lot of research too. It appears that most T-bolts were blue in '65 but you could get them in red as an optional color. I would think that color options existed for the other models as well. Again, just sharing things I've learned since getting the bike. By no means am I trying to speak as an authority.
regards,
Rob
Looks similar to mine. Does yours have a twin leading shoe front drum?
Thank you very much guys. O and here is the back seat bar thing ha. Also the gauges. Funny thing is i just realized the tires are the original ones, they say from Great Britain.
![[Linked Image]](https://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g408/allendemint11/photo3.jpg)
Hi Rob,
Thank You so much! Finally, a pic of just about what I'm trying to put together.
Are your wheels 18"? Is your frame the full loop one?
Flater early seat, four gallon tank, a bit later headlamp shell, and your chain guard is painted black, mine has been chromed....
In a prior purchase, a couple decades ago, I made a purchase of many speedos and tachs, still in their Smiths boxes.
Among them was a chronometric speedo. After researching the numbers, it turns out this was one of the last chronometric speedos installed by the factory, and it is for the early A65, as far as I've been able to find...
According to a factory manual I found, I'm guessing I'm building this one towards a Star, Rocket, or Thunderbolt Rocket.
But, I am NOT researching exact correctness, so I'll still end up with a Bitsa... Many correct factory parts, but they may all not be for the same model/year...
GOOD looking bike there, Rob! I hope mine gets close to looking as good.
Brett
P.S. Those BSA placarded seat rails show up often enough. They aren't terribly hard to find one of...
Rob
I would say a Thunderbolt Rocket would not have had a tach in 65. Tha twas reserved for the Lightning Rockets. Though I admit a lot of the info about those bikes is confusing due to the amount of variations presented in the parts books. There were actually 2 for that era....

One parts book (00-5116) was for the: A50 Star, A65 Star, and A65 Rocket.
The other parts book (00-5118) covered: A50 Cyclone Road Model, A50 Cyclone Competition, A65 Thunderbolt Rocket (which was closer to an A65 Rocket

), A65 Lightning Rocket, and A65 Spitfire Hornet.
Then all the variations within the parts book...it can be mind numbing.
But got to say, your bike is sweet looking. Wouldn't mind having one like that myself :bigt
I would guess closed loop frame due to the way the seat/rear fender fit.
Sweet, really sweet. Glad someone saved another early A65.....
Thanks for the kind words, guys. Yes, the frame is closed loop and yes, the wheels are 18 inch.
The parts book I have is Catalogue No. 5118 and covers the A50 Cyclone Road model, competition model, A65 Thunderbolt Rocket and A65 Spitfire Rocket.
Bike already had a tach drive on the engine, but the owner had not purchased the correct tach. Dual instrument mount similar to the Lightning with just the gray face speed. I got a single speedo mount on ebay last week just to have in case I ever get the bike judged and they say it should not have a tach.
If you are in need of picture of certain areas on the bike, let me know and I'll take them and post them. I don't see a gallery on this site so I'll put them on Photobucket. I have some up there now, including that big alum BSA plaque from the rear rail.
My parts arrived today to fix some of the errors on the bike. Most notably were EMGO levers and perches with mirror holes. The real problem is the wrong pivot hole spacing requiring a grip like Arnold to release the clutch. I think this was one of the reasons the PO sold it. I've always worked out and have a pretty good grip and the clutch lever is tortuous with those levers. It's about a 30 increase in required effort. The brake side translates into 30% less braking force as well. None of that is good. I told EMGO about this and they said they'd look into it. Yeah, right.

Rob

If the clutch is that heavy on that vintage A65, something is WRONG. I have 2 A65's with the same style release mechanism, Tr*umph 750 springs (and one is even a 4 spring clutch), and both are 2 finger clutch operation.
Cable routing is critical on those bikes. Correct cable routing is across the steering head, back across the front of the engine, and a large loop into the back of the inner timing cover. A well lubed cable is also important.
The clutch springs may also be wound too tight. Or be the wrong springs. If the bike has the correct 4 spring clutch, they take shorter springs than does the later 3 spring clutch. Most parts places sell the later spring only. To use the later springs requires some "modifications"
You may be missing some bits in the plunger that fits between the clutch release lever and pushrod.
The whole thing may be misadjusted. The lever has limited travel, getting it all set up right is critical. But once right, I prefer the early clutch over the later clutch release mechanism.
Or it may be something I have overlooked....

1968 BSA sez:
" cant see how your bike can be a thunderbolt rocket with it having twin carbs!"
Better look at the picture again. It is single carb along with what appears to be reasonbly correct single carb side covers from that era.
Appreciate the input, but I know for a fact that the clutch effort problem is due to the config of the levers on the bars. Certain EMGO levers have a 1-1/16 pivot hole to cable hole spacing and the correct spacing is 7/8". The difference makes for a 30% increase in effort. I had a similar problem on my T140V when I bought an Emgo lever to replace an OEM lever with peeling chrome. The difference in effort is truly striking. I confirmed this on my T-bolt by borrowing a lever from a '66 T120R I have and putting it on the T-bolt. Clutch pull returned to normal.
I suspect that there are a number of folks out there that are unaware of this Emgo lever issue. The dealer I got my spare from was not aware and he's been in the Brit bike business over 40 years. Another local shop that sells these levers also said he's never gotten a complaint. He did say he think that most Emgo levers go on bike people are fixing up to unload and maybe don't care. I may have overstated the effort. It's rideable, but certainly not enjoyable.

Rob
Come on guys,I thought this was for posting pictures of our BSA's:

Now this is what I like to see. Nice collection.

Very purty, Mr. Oil. You bought it looking like that? Lucky man, if you didn't pay a fortune for it. Forgive me if I've already asked and forgot, but, whereabouts in upstate NY are you from?
Allendemint, if you decide to ditch those "cocktail shaker" mufflers, would you let me know?
Picked up my engingine from SRM on Wednesday 30th March!
Those guys have done a great job, crank balance, new big ends, small ends, polished rods, new oil pump, welding to bottom of cases, roller bearing conversion and crank end feed, Spifire cam, stainless pressure release valve, all bearings/bushes/seals replaced, all threads cleanened and re-tapped and then rebuilt!
Wheels and tyres next!
The wife is hoping it will be finished by August as I can tell she may be getting annoyed about "BSA parts in every room of the house" , which is untrue as they're aren't any in our bedroom or the bathroom! Women, eh! LOL
Thanks Mark. Sorry for the late reply. I'm in the Albany area, but have a summer place on Oneida Lake. Bunch of Brit bike riders out there.
Bought the bike for a less than a quarter of what was invested in the bike. And I got all the receipts with it. It was a good day for sure. What's nice is if I wanted to make it absolutely 100% perfect, I could do that now without breaking the bank. It just small stuff.

Rob

How long have you been doing it?
I hope mine looks half as good!
Any more photo's?
I started on it Nov 2010. I will post some more as it moves along. Thanks for asking.
This is how it started. Surface rust and crud.
I started on it Nov 2010.
Looks like you' ve been doing night shifts then, piperjak !
Excellent job. Please, do post some more of those rusty pics !

Here's my 1970 A50. My dad bought it from a family friend back in the 80s; the last time it was registered was 1989. The PO chopped it and painted it black to match his friend's lightning. I've spent the last year sorting it mechanically and doing inexpensive fixes to cosmetics (polishing aluminum, repainting rusty side covers, etc).
In the future, I will need to decide whether to take it down for a restoration. It runs great now, and I am happy with it for the time being. There's a definite charm to the un-restored frame with its minor flaws and character.
Thanks to all the good people on the BSA forum for the advice they've given me so far. I started this knowing almost nothing and now have rebuilt many of the key components of the bike.
tsohg......it looks really good to me i would just ride it
Don't worry, I found an already butchered frame to build this with. Actually, parts of three wrecked frames welded together:
I see a set of OIF B25 or B50T fork legs complete with alloy yokes. I think the wheel is part of the same set so it should be able to converted into something more A65 related, and very easily at that.
I guess you intend to take it back to something a little more original. All the best with it.
Thanks, Kevin. Actually, I posted that pic to show a completed project. I dragged home a big pile of nasty wrecked stuff a while back. A65 frame had some of the back cut off, and had some kind of 60s Japanese neck welded on it. I welded on the front of a wrecked B25 and the back of a wrecked Triumph chopper.
Ooops, sorry about that Leon. We don't get to see many machines like that down here. Some may have been imported as rebuild projects when they were shipping them here by the container load 15 years ago.
I think our vehicle testing stations guys would have a fit if something like that rocked up..... Is it street legal in the states ?
Pretty sure it is in hillbilly country where I live.
Thought I would post a couple of more pictures of my 66 east coast T bolt. Has 19 inch rear wheel

Man I dig watching this thing come together. Bravo.
Kinda a special day for the BSA. The Bike went through a total restoration with some upgrades. Fired it up today for the fist time since 1981. It started up fine and adjustments were made.
The motor was balanced during overhaul and what a difference! .. much improved for a BSA twin.
Thanks everyone for the help..
Piperjak that thing looks stunning from here..........I don't know how some of you guys do it. My favorite part of this whole deal is when I fire something up that has been dormant for decades.
Thanks Leon.. I guess it was successful because parts didnt fly all over the yard. 30 years is a long time to be strewn around in someones garage.
http://s1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa351/lemans4/?action=view¤t=P5010013.jpgthis is the one with the leaking barrel, see other post. I own it since 1979, bought for 220€. turned out the be a spitfire mkII, still with matching numbers. During the years the bike has seen and suffered a lot of abuse.
crank rollerbearing conversion was done by myself (in a well equiped workshop) in 1984.
Now in the process of restoring it to an usefull condition, doesn't have to be perfect. first mechanically, cosmetics later. For the sake of braking the front end is replaced with a guzzi fork and brembo brakes. works surprisingly well.
next on the list is a 90degree crank. keep you posted on that one.
regards Anne
Going well sir!, well done again. I forgot to ask if you ever got the SRM clutch lifting mechanism?
I sure did... thanks for the advice.

Piperjak,
Beautiful job....did you take the engine all the way down?
Jim
Yes.. All the way to a bare block. I took it too a trusted machine shop and they were experienced in balancing. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh! ! is it ever smooth. Seen a lot of shakers but not this one. When the tach needle is calm - things are good.
Did you replace the crank bushing with bearing?
No, as far as crank bearings - just the big end was replaced.
Greetings all,
I'd like to share my recently acquired and finished '69 B25. The bike was taken down to a pile of parts by a high school auto shop class in Freehold, NJ. The bike ran well when the instructor bought it at Mid Ohio so the engine was left alone. The kids blasted, painted, polished all the frame bits, wheels, etc. Sheet metal sprayed by local bodyshop. I took on the project when nearly complete and did final assembly, wiring, got it going (learned a lot there :)). Just ran it in the Motogiro East (see Rod and Tappet) and it went the distance pulling some wicked hills and my fat ass so I'm very happy with it.

this is one i made from scratch
Water Buffalo, or as you folks call 'em kettle front wheel?
yes its about as agood as a standard 8" tls bsa brake, but it looks good !
The frame after a few cuts and shuts, note the start of the petrol tank, thank god for body filler or bondo as you might call it .
Man-O-Man,
Do I like the looks of those types of frames! They look short-coupled? Anyways, shorter in length than a standard frame, lighter also!
Almost looks like you'll never remove the engine again!
Yeah, they use both terms over here...
What 'scared' you about the first one?
it wasnt so much the bike it was the class of the racing, its very competitive, some triples were making 100+ horse power and man could they ride! i realised if i tried to keep up the end result would be an even shorter rocket 3
Nice looking, have you any info on the bike.
Bob
Nothing really to speak of other than it's pretty non-original and that's a zundapp rear fender on it. She's a hell of a starter being my first kick start (as well as my first bike overall!) without the compression release working and a half dead battery. It has a new amal on it and it's 12v, no idea if that's factory or it received an upgrade over the past 40 years. She's getting a cleanup and I'll be repainting some of the brackets/etc over the summer while riding it.
No idea what is what on it to be honest, other than the zundapp rear fender. An identification of parts is more than welcome!
Allan: I hope you will delete that last post.
I had one, mater of fact it was my first bike, rode it from Big Bear Lake to Santa Barbara the day I bought it. Thank you for posting it.
Richard
You must be trying to "get our goat" by posting images of a Honda on a BSA picture thread. It worked.
Hello Allan: I went back about 15 pages, all I see is the Kawasaki A10 clone. It might have some relevance to this thread.
I had one of those 400Fs myself, just a couple years ago. An interesting little bike, and I took a few pics of it. Never occurred to me to post one here.
I read and enjoy all your posts, but I hope we can get these pics deleted.
Heres my kitten ,it is english tho !!!!!!!!!!!!
For the gold? nothing. All it takes is a dremel cloth polishing wheel and metal polish and polish off the lacquer coating that is on them from factory. With that removed - the gold, (brass) polishes up like new. Took about 3 hours to do them both. Masking was not the most fun - then sprayed the with tank color and clearcoat. No need to clearcoat the brass star like the factory tried.
BTW, it's been years so...here's Buster again. He now has clip-ons above the Tclamps but otherwise looks the same.
Good looking machine Redman, Tell me some more about those front forks and front brakes please.
:bigt
Having had a lot of help from people on this site, I thought that I would post some pictures of the finished item. It is now taxed and MOT'd and runnning.

Very nice Dave, thanks for sharing!
After a very long and tortured path, the 56 DB Gold Star is about ready to sing again. Hopefully tonight!

This bike has been seen before but in slightly different disguise. Tarvin Porter had built this bike to be his rider of the 2 Gold Stars. Now it has been rebuilt and modified a bit to suit my taste (or lack of

).
A new favorite Rich? So many fine choices for you to ride now just one more.
Rich -
It's great that you've persevered to get that bike on the road.
At the Int'l in 2008, I saw several Gold Stars which looked like they were being used as daily transportation and touring bikes. I hope you will be able to get this one on the road regularly ... I don't mean 15,000 miles a year and wear it out, but ride it regularly and "show the flag".
I'd love to have one for just that, but it takes SUCH a commitment, as YOU know ...

Well, She's almost finished at last!! Can't wait to get her on the road...

Bernie
fantastic
Your phota has identified which petrol tank is fitted to my bike.
I always wondered which model it was from
My first brit bike
![[Linked Image]](https://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i441/cesariaputeri/BSA/bsaijo4.jpg)
My friend said, it is B31 1956.
hey cesariaputeri,
That's a very good probability with those Ariel wheels.
Nice lookin' ol' bike! Very darned complete, with those accessories included!!
Wish I could find a package tray for my '48 AJS...
Brett
Allan, The red button is the kill switch, wired through the
neg post on the coil and the black one is the horn. (center toggle is the high beam)
My 1967 West Coast Hornet
ET Ignition, Acronet Alloy Wheels, Alloy Side Covers, WORKS Shocks, Progressive Springs, and Siamese Exhausts.
Pistons are Original 10 or 10.5, likes a mixture of racing gas and 91 Octane. Bates Headlight and Bracket.
Runs great with a long legged 21 tooth drive sprocket.
Plans are to ride it like this for the summer and then restore to original condition.

Hi,
Just joined the forum and would like to say what a great source of information it contains. A big thank you, to you all.
I've just finished restoring my 66 Spitfire at the beginning of the week and have now put 98 miles on her. I've attached a couple of photos. Hope you like her.....

Thanks
Keith.
Nice one, how long have you had it?
Hi,
Got the frame and engine in 1980ish. Left rod through cases. Repaired engine and put it into my Thunderbolt. In 1988 had SRM conversion done to bottom end. Three years ago after about 60,000 miles the gearbox went, putting a hole in the cases.
Decided to completely rebuild engine and put it back into original frame. The quill on end of crank needed replacing so sent bottom end back to SRM where it was repaired and dynamically balanced with racing carillo rods. SRM pump and PRV were also purchased. New pistons, new clutch, Pazon ignition, gas flowed head, new 32mm concentrics, lightned rockers.
I've modified the timing cover to take the later clutch cable.
The frame has tapered roller bearings, later shuttle damped forks and TLS front brake.
The tank is a new Burtons fibre glass tank with a casswell lining.
It's taken two years to put back together and hopefully will last another 60,000 miles without having to pull apart!!!!!!!.
I bought my first A65 37 years ago whilst at College for £70 and bought the Spitfire for £40, I've spent probably thousands over the years riding them and modifing them. It gets into your blood.
Here's a photo of my thunderbolt.

Enjoy yours
Keith.
Thanks mate, bought mine in 1978, blew it up 1979! Then had a bit of a crash on it later that year, 'rebuilt' it and rode it until 1983, now decided to put it back together now the kids have gone, the ex-wife has gone, and the CSA has gone!
And the new wife is a lot more tollerant of bikes!
Wheels now in
Finally got the old B33 sorted on the road and she's a rumpty !
Here she is in the shadow of the Tantalus mountain range in Squamish B.C.

Hi, this pictures of the start of my winter restoration. A 1972 BSA A65 Lightning. It's an American import that will spend time after the rbuild on the country road of Australia. It's first big trip will be to the Border Run in 2012 in memort of BSA Bill a legend that rode BSA's all over Australia.
Ha ha! Here's a pretty 'hideous' photo from about 1980 not long after my 'smash' in '79, note the OIF rear mudguard and tail-light, cheepo headlight brackets, 'Goldie' style silencers and the 190mm front end I picked up for £20 from the breakers yard and those crash bars!

Ho,hum I was 20 and as long as I could ride it it didn't matter! LOL!
This project will take some time, but this is the start on May 2011. This non running bike, has a wrong triple tree, wheels and exhaust,no looming wire and was waiting for restoration by the former owner from 1996 till May 2011, when I bought it. Next picture May 2012
Interesting project Fer, awaiting restoration since 1996..
Do not dispair, my Goldstar project took even longer than that. (and is still not completed yet).
Good luck with your restoration work,I am looking forward to watching your progress.
I now see that my information was not complete. The former owner bought it in 1996 tot restore this bike, but never got further than this point. I bought it in May this year and the planning is summer next year to ride again.
My 1968 BSA 441 Victor. In bike years it IS a Senior Citizen. Even so I moved it one spot over after taking the picture.

Wak, is it my eyes or... What kind of carburettor do you use?
Wak, is it my eyes or... What kind of carburettor do you use?
Looks like Amal monobloc 376 to me.
Wak, is it my eyes or... What kind of carburettor do you use?
There amal monobloc 389 & 689,the floats go to the inside
It's my eyes, I think. I thought they were the racing Amals with the separate float chamber.
Thanks.
Hey wak
Nice bike just finished mine live just up road to you Belper
Where did you get the lightning power transfers from ?
The ones I have put on mine are not quite right
Steve
Very nice! I have a 67 with 10.5 to 1 and wondered what ratio your mixing the fuel. I have been running 93 octane and it's still not real happy.
Just put regular fuel in from supermarket in the UK as far as I know is 95 octane and it runs fine as far as I can tell
We used to have 2 3 4 and 5 star petrol think 5 Star was 100 octane the only other thing I use is a lead substitute to stop valve/seats burning out
Steve
Just done some googleing and found this
"Super Fuels
Many of the large petrol companies have launched 'super fuels' - petrols and diesels that have a higher research octane level. These fuels are said to increase power in many vehicles, deliver less pollution than regular fuels and help to maintain a cleaner engine. Amongst these 'super fuels' are Tesco's Super Unleaded 99 Octane petrol, supplied by Greenergy, now sold at many stations across the UK and also BP's Ultimate 102 Unleaded which is currently the most advanced, high-performance petrol you can buy on UK forecourts. "
Might have to try a tank full see if it makes a diffrence
Win,
I really like that bike...great job.
Don't worry, I found an already butchered frame to build this with. Actually, parts of three wrecked frames welded together:
Nice, iv got a rougth old frame and fancy building one in that style, its well cool
Both bikes are Chad's, last photo by Chad.

I think Rian (thanks by the way) is refering to mine Allan.. I'm going to try and get in touch with Colin Podmore with a view to showing it on the Beezer stand at Stafford next April.. Ian (the cheese stealer)
Wow Wak, this is really a beauty to me. Can you tell us something about it? What is that fantastic green colour?
kind regards
Luke Albanese
Burlinton, Ontario
Sure Luke, its a 66 lightning with rocket yokes and headlight,b44 forks,69 wheels and cyclone tank and seat, the engines stock it as small port head and a genuine timing side bush, electronic ignition, power box and gell battery and the usual paper oil filters and magnets.the colour is candy green over a silver base.Iv done 200 miles so far with no issues and gave it a short squirt up to the ton,my only regret is not making it single carb but the twin carbs do look the part !!!!!
![[Linked Image]](https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c28/v-cycle/Picture641.jpg)
bike has been parked for a while but son who does some photography decided to take some photo's which came out great(in my opinion)....
Joe ,thats well cool,i bet its great to ride?
Wak,
Thanks for this. I wonder have you got any more (larger) photos you can send me of the bike from various angles?
I'm just about to start with a 67 Thunderbolt that I happen to have a 1972 750 lightning engine to hand and would love to aim to produce something over here that looks like yours?
Cheers
Luke
[email protected]
Wak - is that the 7" TLS or the full 8" brake on the front? Did you paint it yourself? If so - how did you do the gold tank line?
Cheers
Luke
wak....it's been 3-4 years since it's run.
i ran it when i finished it several times. like most vintage bikes its enjoyable to look at and to ride..
lots of nice bikes on the forum guys, hope your all enjoying them ............joe
Yeh the front brakes a 69/70 bsa triumph 8" twin leading shoe, a must i my opinion if you intend to ride in busy trafic.i did the paint my self its easy enought ,cellulose ,acrylic or 2 pack will work, apply the coarsest silver you can find then you can buy the candy or make it, i usualy make it just ask you paint supplier for a 50ml of pigment in the colur you require (go a shade darker than you want) then mix in to a clear laquer, using a aluminium stiring device pour the color in until you get about a third of the require shade(viewed on the ally)hit it with 3 coats ,mask a pin line then paint the gold then clear coat it.i brush my pin line but i wouldnt recomend it,it takes practice!
Cheers Wak,
it really is a stunner!!
Top polishing job as well.
L
,unlike my box of bits mongrel !!!!
its a 66 lightning with rocket yokes and headlight,b44 forks,69 wheels and cyclone tank and seat
Wak,
PM sent...
Are you talking about that pretty green bike? It sure does NOT look like a mongrel!
Brett
P.S. wish you were a LOT closer, I've got at least four tanks to get painted.... And maybe four oil tanks and tool boxes to match the gas tanks...
Joe,
I like your A10 Spitfire, is it a replica? That circle track seat sure sets it off!
May I ask what the panel behind the exhaust pipes is, or is it a central oil tank? Did you find the winged BSA badge and affix it there?
Whichever, that also is a great accent!
What are in the ends of the exhaust pipes, some sort of silencer?
How about a pic of the other side!?
Brett
just fitte

Dodgeboy57,
You have some nice motorcycles.
I have always liked off road bikes.
Wak - is that seat a Wassel ? if so is the quality any good ? I've seen one on UK ebay , looks the same - but I've heard negative about the vendor - but that's possibly one persons bad deal.
Regards
Kev
Thanks! I'll post some more of the treasures once I dig em out. I've got a project A10 Gold Star Scrambler buried someplace, a trio of B50 scramblers, a Dick Mann engined, Sammy Miller framed Trialer and the original Otter B40 Trialer that's mentioned in the British Trials Bike book. There's also a Seeley Honda and a hoard of Greeves buried in the garage.
Yes its a wassel seat, its fit for purpose, and looks good, you cant beat a genuine seat with a pressed base and moulded foam tho,but its not the sixtys anymore !!!!
wak,
What kind of car is that ? I noticed it has a Mustang emblem on the fender too !
Yes mustang badges ummmmmmmmm ! its really a 1963 Ford consul Capri 1500GT

the street tracker lh panel is just steel sheet cover with a tank badge added...
the pipes do have baffles installed as it was way too loud and i made up some exhaust tips for the ends..
i really like the green lightning, nice paint on her too....joe

I would like to post a picture new to this place how do you do it? My poor 1956 BSA just came out of 30 year storage in a tractor trailer....Diane
Beautiful tank Dick, I would rig up some sort of rig to pull-draw that pin into place.
Don't think I'd take any swings around that gem.
That's my favorite tank for a Lightning, home market 70 probably 69 also. I need one in blue.

Diane,
It is very simple. Check out this post which just happens to be the very first post at the top in the BSA section.

nice bike shame about the screen..
I'd wanted a BSA since I was a kid. Wasn't actively on the hunt though. Walked past a very clean A65 Thunderbolt on the way to work a few weeks ago (Rivington and Christie, seen it about a lot) and commented to a mate of mine. He said, oh, did you know there's a BSA for sale on Craigslist today? Went to have a look and here was this little darling. Wasn't really planning to buy a bike, but I had the readies, had a little something to celebrate and she was cheap and gorgeous, just the way I like ’em. So she's now mine, and after Fumi at 6th Street Specials gave her some love she purrs like a bird. The bike I always wanted since a kid in London. Matching numbers too.
Nice one Eddie

Have had mine since 1978 and would rather sell my soul than part with it!
Nice bike Eddie! Hope you wont get rain... with that missing front fender
She'll be a fair-weather friend, this one. She'll also live upstate, cause I reckon she'll like the twisty back roads in Sullivan County better than straight lines and 90° turns in the city.
Ok, then she will be well kept I guess. Have fun & ride save.
Here we go, a few BSA glamour shots from the Bull City Rumble:

I really hope I can get it out of the kitchen when it is done otherwise the wife will not be pleased!
and yes I know the front end isn't right but when I smashed it up in 1979 and totalled the forks and front wheel, I realised how violent the twin leading shoe was and 'fell in love with the 190mm' that I fitted, so it stayed!
Ha, ha! Don't even go there mate!
The first one was bent and twisted, the second had such a scratch on it that you could feel the burr in the metal and the third had many hair-line scratches on it! The only good thing to come outta this is that I'm getting good at complaining!
If the forth is crap, it's "give me my money back" time!

Brett,
I see it, but I still say crack sealer. Nice bike though.
Low 90's everyday; no humidity. Normal is 82 this time of year. Cooler nights though (low 50's), so daytime is fine.
Bike is awesome, currently she is a little sick ( see my post below

... The weather is Colorado is great, awesome riding the bike into the mountains! I was stuck at the RR crossing because a big freighter was coming through so I pulled into parking lot and started taking photos.

Funny little bike, that number plate on your car is nice too !
Yes i love it off road its real fun the only thing i would change is the rear shocks there a bit short with the 21" front wheel, the real surprise is on the road its as happy at 55/60mph as my 650 trophy !!! People should ride these more
My father and I built this bike over a 15 year period, gathering parts and paying bills at the same time. The engines are both A65L '66 Lightnings. The frame is a combo of two older A50's and the tig welding artwork of a close friend. Enjoy!
