When listening to the video of Mike Hawthorn, that static background noise sounds like it's coming from the ignition. I remember hearing similar on my old AM car radio years ago.... Great video by the way. Thanks for posting.

The 1956 documentary shows the pits at Le Mans much the same s they were the year before when Hawthorn's actions brought about the horrific accident where parts of Levegh's 300SLR Mercedes went through the crowd at 100 mph plus with devastating effect
