Well they held the classic state titles Tues/Wed and this scruffy old heap managed to take 4 seconds off the lap record and claimed the Pre 62 title.Despite having being built by dumb a pommie idiot. (Except the cylinder head) Not even the two 1200cc vinnies could catch him. He's finally got some working brakes too. 2021 Aussie title next shot. https://imgur.com/Qy4PN5Phttps://imgur.com/mdNEs1t

Thanks John, the blokes there wouldn't believe it was only a 745cc motor running on pump petrol. A split carb rubber prevented the winning of all 4 championship races, just got 3 of 'em. Matt had never ridden at the circuit before either.

Nicely done! Great looking machine. I've not seen a rig like that at any of our races here. Most everything is built as a kneeler. Some are trying to get a BEARS class off the ground, perhaps it would fit there.

The old girl was originally a kneeler back in '58 when it started it's life. Converted to a sitter in around '70 with an a10 motor. Had a bolt on sidecar back then too. Many mods to the original f'bed frame over the years as you know they all break a bit....... To comply with the aussie regs now all pre '62's have to be sitters. It still gets a lot of interest as it is a pukka bit of gear.

79 T140D, 96 900M Ducati ,61 A10 .On a bike you can out run the demons.. “But I don't want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked. “Oh, you can't help that,” said the Cat: “we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.

Congratulations, Nick---good to see a good old un first over the finish line. Now--did I mean the outfit or the builder? (Brit humor as you well know).

Didn't know they were running against 1200cc Vincents. That's marvelous, they must be scratching their heads. Great work Nick and Matt.

The sidecar class is up to 1200cc here although there were harleys and vinnies out there over the years that were much bigger than that. You can run petrol or methanol. Funny but the 3 outfits that were faster than him were 2 x tz350 Yamaha F2's and a 600 Konig all modern stuff.

What rods are in it Nick? Are they just revving to 7,000?
Matt said it pulls like a train to redline.
I'm just wondering how much breathing it has, if it will pull higher.
Tim in the UK drags a blown Nitro one and strengthens the cranks. It has to last more that a few seconds on full noise though.
I wondered how the A70 configuration could go.
There is a new book Thunderbolts and Lightnings, its expensive to get here but if a club gets 10 in a box it halves the price per book. It looks really good so I have one coming.

I set a rev limit of 6600, i'm not that confident with that old a10 crank in it. I know pressing a steel bar in may help but if you look at an a70 crank you can see where they toughened it up. The cam is not doing him any favours at lower rpm and i am going to fit an srm one. It's great on the 650 as it's a buzzier motor but now it has a lot more lower end torque available we should make use of it. It would also be nice to obtain some semblance of an idle...... To win you must finish. One step at a time eh?
(It's fitted with map steel rods and venolia 11-1 a70 pistons)

Not even the two 1200cc vinnies could catch him. Er well, they were both obviously stuck in third then!! - me, biased - the very idea!! Seriously though, well done.

Actually Phil, i managed to convince one of the guys to get rid of his mag and go to an electronic ignition, he must have spent most of the days trying to get the thing running reasonably. By rights he should have blown us into the weeds on the straights. Neither of them could out brake or out corner us though. ( I wont mention change gear as fast either.......)
Cheers Nick

( I wont mention change gear as fast either.......) Hi Nick Heh, Race twin on a ( Lucas) mag and single plug? - I hear the inevitable sound of something useless hitting the dustbin bottom - when I went leccy sparks and dual plugs it actually starting burning all the fuel in the pot, Lots of work to be done on improving the brakes, but it can be done and they do work well. Ah changing gear, now that is a problem :help, I used to need 3 days written notice to change gear, ssssllllllloooooowwwwwww with precise precision was the only way, sigh. Beat 'em down the straight only to have 'em come past while waiting for the change to happen, grrrr!!!!!!!! Are they on 16" as well, if so they should be with you on the corners, so good on you to beat them.
