Fuel here costs over £1 per litre, Methanol , bought by the tonne is 66.9 pence /litre.
I have space, maybe 13:1 is the way to go, big jets, nae fins, what could possibly go wrong?

rather than milling off the fins, could you just fill in the gaps with a mastic or something similar?

So, Gavin. You got a big tank at home for the 'dope'? You will also burn more than twice as much and it makes yer eyes water. Details. sounds like the way to go! PRT
PS bought a can of methanol last week. 5 gallons just under 40 bucks. For me toy airplanes.

This was mere speculation, i forgot about the doubling of fuel consumption, good point.
In the 80s there was a very successful all iron BSA single dope motor competing in the Scottish classic races, easily passing the pukka Manxes, I have never messed around with methanol, could be fun.

I have run my Greeves 200 on methanol.
Main jet 3.4mm drilled. Mk 2 Concentric would not pass enough fuel through the float chamber, even with the big dope valve
Mikuni VM carb was ok on 1/4 mile but not longer, the chamber ran dry
My GM500 runs on methanol with a Dellorto 195 main jet in a Blixt 38mm carb. Start up, stage, 1/4 mile (202M) WOT, about 300M slowing down and then 500M-550M riding back to pits uses around 300cc of methanol
