I believe the big journal crankshaft A10 and A65 use the same rod bearing insert. Does anyone know the diameter of the rod big end without the bearing?
The bore gauge says the big end is round within half a thousand but there is some mark's on the backs of the bearings and rod that could be from insufficient bearing crush.
The crank is worn smoothly about 2 thousand under standard and will be turned .010.

We got other problems .The caps are very difficult to remove even with the small end anchored and banging/pulling with a largre hammer handle on the cap....the bolts are angled inward .010 at just under the threads...Removed the bolts and both are bent slightly..I pushed the bolts into the cap slightly and it appears the rod and cap are not bent as they fit together nicely....I have no idea how this may have happened in the past and how much the aluminum may be stressed.
Well this sucks, I wasn't figuring to spend $450 on new rods ...and used rods are a crap shoot..

Eye is 1.840in in my notebook. It's what i had t140 rods bored to for A65 use.

Bolt 'em up with decent bolts and check.
If they're round, use 'em.

Any sign of metal being removed from caps? That would be the giveaway of sizing.

Hard to tell if metal was removed ...the last butcher to go in used a screwdriver to pry the rod cap and left some deep gouges.....nos bolts are about $12 each....maybe a set of used rods might be better than these....

I was concerned over the big end size at one time for some reason and my notes have it at 1.842".
My "Modern Motorcycle Mechanics" book has 1.6055"-1.606" (in my notes) but that's less than the crank so that can't be right.

Tough decision we've probably all had to make.

I have two sets of A10 rods..The big ends on both are less than .001 out of round. They don't have the appearance of past resizing.or the inserts lacking crush. The big end ID is 1.846.
The machine shop I use builds some exotic stuff and should be knowledgable about bearing insert crush..
