On a ride yesterday the odometer reset shaft fell out of the Smiths speedo.

Is this repairable simply by buying a replacement shaft and little nob to be useable again?

Thank you,
SteveG

The shafts are a pull/push fit so another trip bob should be fine to put in unless the housing is damaged. Assuming your asking about the magnetic speedos. The chronometrics might be different. What does it have fitted?

Thanx Allan,

Good question! I don't know.

It is on a '68 A65 Lightning.

The face is dark grey .

A sticker on the face says;

"Do Not Pull Shaft Down
Rotate Only to Re-Set Snap Fit"

Numbers along the bottom of the face are;

SSM 500/05

Thank you.

Now I know that it is a magnetic speedo.

It works great with hardly any wooble.

I am hoping that I can replace the lost re-set shaft simply by snapping or screwing in a replacement.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and where or who I can contact?

Perhaps one of you have run into this situation?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
SteveG

Yes, the shaft of the reset knob has a notch to engage with the instrument. Sometimes a bit difficult, but it just pushes in.

There’s usually a bundle on eBay. Top tip! There are two lengths. Get the longer one as I found the shorter one was hard to reset and thus kept pulling it out of the locked position. The longer one is a breeze to use, although not as neat.

Thanx!
May be the answer if the part it plugs into in not warn out.
If so, time to reevaluate.
