I need a new chain, and have read threads about o-ring and x-ring chains, but I don't plan to use either. I won't be running the wheels off of the old girl, and don't want to worry about clearance issues. That said, I still want to install a quality chain. Thanks for recommendations!

Clean-up is coming along nicely. Really pleased with the progress on the bike, and equally pleased by the overall fine condition of everything as the years of dirt and grime fall away.

I've been buying DID normal duty sort of bike chain. Good stuff, never disappointed. Some of the non o-ring chain out there, if it says some kind of super heavy duty it can be almost too fat and might rub. Or almost rub.

Buy two Daido chains, non o ring, blank off the chain oiler, when one chain is tired fit the other one, clean 6x in parasene / keraffin and lube in boiled grease with moly, repeat, sprockets last twice as long, the good boil in stuff does not fling like everything else. if you blank off the chain oiler , drill a tiny hole in the uppermost chaincase inspection cap so it can breathe.

Those DID ones are pretty good and a reasonable price. They or Regina are what i tend to use.
Gavin's maintenance schedule is what it's all about really for high mileage.
OR go through the convert to o-ring 420 rigmarole. (grind sprockets etc.)

Look at the tensile strength of the chain you decide on. I don't know what bike you have, but I think that for a large displacement Brit twin you should be around 7000 lbs.

DID on both of my Triumphs. I have a Tsubaki HD chain on the A65, but I had to grind out the case opening slightly to get clearance.

I’m getting good service from an IWIS from the Chain Man.

My maintenance regime is “keep it oily.”

somehow i dont think Valentino is short of a dollar and when guys get to his level its all about racing and coming first ........they are very jealous of their reputation.........do you recon you could bribe someone like Marques(sp) or the other elite of Moto GP to throw a race ? if as you allege "everyone has their price"

If Rossi and the team that stands behind him endorse DID chain its good enough for me

AND besides all that i do believe Valentino Rossi had earned the right to be shown some respect and not have his integrity impugned !

Then he should be replaced. I would allow no such thing. But, I don't bow to the root of all evil.

Not many would hold there principles for that, only saintly types .

sent back my membership to Greenpeace in the 80's when the scientists who founded it got voted off the management by the ego maniacs and changed the focus to be all about themselves and gettng their faces on TV rather than actually making changes.

Rossi probably gets DID chains as part of his sponsorship deal so he is obliged to endorse them

Be interesting to see what happened if the team changed to Regina chains eh?

Anyway lets move on.

I don't think anyone stocks Iwis here.

Funny how people become “fans” of people and dish out devastating sarcasm in defence of their idol!

Celebrity testimonials are just a game that pays, for celebrities and an advert for the product.

good choice .........by the way the DID triplex for primary is the best ive ever had (and ive tried all sorts on the a65 and duplex on a10) i installed one around 5k miles ago and havent even had to adjust it ,,,,it runs smooth and quiet and tracks perfectly.........i must have tried at least 4 different brands on a65 over the years but didnt have confidence in any of them ........they were constantly needing adjustment

its pretty well priced to

Good to know, thanks. I haven't got to the primary yet, that will be soon. I'm know some attention to the clutch is needed, as the clutch feels stiff, and not smooth. Hoping the primary chain is fine, with only 10k miles on the bike from new.
