I am restoring a 1965 Cyclone road model(USA Version). I could not find an original headlight shell (part #19-576)and don't know exactly how it looks. I have read that Lucas MCH 61 units may be the correct headlight shell, but they make two different configurations. I just purchased two MCH 61 headlight shells on eBay, one with a speedometer opening behind the ammeter opening and one without the speedometer opening. Does anybody know the proper headlight shell for this model. I am guessing that I would use the headlight shell with the speedometer opening if I was only going the have a speedometer and use the headlight shell without the opening for the speedometer, if I was going to use both a speedometer and a tachometer combination. This would require some sort of bracket mounted to the triple tree.

I would appreciate any advice that you can give me.

Ron, I don't know how accurate images 2 and 3 are. They are both '65 Cyclone Road Models. I believe image 3 was a restoration by and then raffle bike from the Ohio BSAOC that recently came up for sale.

ken,
Thanks for the pictures and brochures. From my research, there are variations in seat covers, tank and side cover badges, instrument mounting and headlights in the various pictures. The only part I am having trouble finding is the speedometer(SSM 4001/00) at a reasonable price.

The tank and side covers are at the painters and should be back in a week. I will post pictures in a few weeks of this project.

Thanks for your help.

Ron

RON,

GOOD LUCK WITH YOU RESTORATION AND YOUR SEARCH FOR A SPEEDO. MY 65 LIGHTNING CLUBMAN STARTED LIFE AS A 65 CYCLONE IN ROAD TRIM. IT WAS LIGHTNING CLUBMAND BY A PREVIOUS OWNER WHO DOD A GREAT JOB. I WISH IT HAD BEEN LEFT AS A CYCLONE. THEY ARE INTERESTING BIKES. THE ONLY CHANGE I WOULD NOSIDER IS THE TACH AND SPOOD SET MENTION ABOVE BY BEACH. I HAVE AN EXTRA SET OF REAR SET IF YOU ARE SO INCLINED. I THINK A CYCLONE CLUBMAN COULD BE INTERESTING IF DONE RIGHT. BUT COMPLETELY STOCK S ATTRACTIVE AS WELL. YOUR CHOICE.

Ken, Do you have any suggestions where I might source a SSM4001/00 speedometer. I can find them in the UK for $300-400 used plus shipping. Then I have to get the unit rebuilt.

YOU CAN SEARCH GOOGLE IE BSA FOLLOWED BY THE POAT NUMBER. FIRST YOU SHOULD DECIDE IF YOU WAT TO GO WIG AN IN HEADLIGHT SETUP OR A SPEEDO/TACH SET UP
