A little step back to elaborate on the Tea Shop in Morton on Marsh . We went there 3 times at least cause the food was just that good

This was the first meal I had there as we arrived the first day.

Another night during the Rally, Geoff and Sara, Gerry and I , the Bindley crew - Mathew, Sam and the kids all piled into the Land Rover and set off for a lovely little pub for dinner one night.

Not sure what was more fun the ride or the dinner in a small Cotswold village .... It all made for a great evening

The Best is yet to come raf940.... From making friends on this very site, I have been able to travel the world on our beloved BSA motorcycles. Because of them , it makes it possible were otherwise I would not be able to afford nor have the logistic support to make these trips happen .
From loaning motorcycles and places to stay and keeping me on the correct side of the road , to just simply being great company while visiting . I would not trade these memories for anything... Sure I have the added bonus of Gerry's family in England but that is just a bonus. Ive done the same exact thing in New Zealand and Germany and Holland , ect. .... My point is , anyone with the desire can do this. You will find the generosity of others more abounding then you can imagine . And I will try to repay that generosity whenever possible. I suggest that anyone with enough money for a plane ticket and petrol/beer money and a few weeks off (at least a week but two is better) should connect with someone with a bike or a friend with a bike and go for it..... As you can see there is a lot out there to explore. I consider my friends abroad to be some of my best friends. I wish I could see them even more often then I do ...

Like Wade has said, no "luck" about it. It's about guys contacting each other on sites exactly like this one, and a guy in one country offers a guy in another country a bike and a place to stay.

For me, it started in 2005 with Shaun our Kentcorresponent offering Fay and I a ride and place to stay to attend the BSAOC Open Day. We'd never met, our wives had never met, but we did it anyway and it's just gone from there. Shaun and Janette, Karl and Julie Bentley, Geof (RIP) and Christine Staples, Geoff and Sara Hewitt, our Kev., Bryan and Marie Jones, Graham and Diane Ham, have all offered us either bikes to ride, their homes to stay in, being ride partners, taking care of camping sites, fetching parts to fix bikes broken on the road, whatever's needed to make a great vacation. And I wouldn't hesitate a moment to call Morgan or Dieter or several others across the water and see what they were doing. And our home here is always open, our bikes ready for someone to ride, as we pay all that forward.

I say go for it! The warnings about "Strangers you Meet on the Internet" do NOT apply to anything about British Bikes!

I did too! beerchug

You may not be "fortunate" enough to have a rich uncle leave you a million bucks, but you don't have to be "fortunate" or "lucky" in that way to attend a BSAOC rally in a foreign land.

Just ask!

Lannis lad, you say about NOT meeting strange people on the internet, by that comment I can tell you've forgotten about No Name.... laughing

Don't think there's a thing that's been invented yet, that could find a stranger lad than him. Bill Gates and the like would do us proud, if they came up with another No Name... wink

Just saying

I may resemble that remark. Not sure...
Wade, I echo your comments. lately I haven't been able to afford the plane ticket. I confess that I went to the BSA international in 2006 hoping to meet Englishmen and get to know some well enough that they might actually invite me to visit. Worked beyond my dreams. New friends all over the world. All welcome here. Hope I can go some more.

Part of every BSA International rally is the Dinner Dance on the Thursday night and the BBQ on the last night of the rally , Friday.... That will be the next part that we shall relive . So for better some for worse wink

I forget where we rode to this day but the three of us got back to Morton on Marsh in time to have a pint before needing to prepare for the Dinner Dance.... We had not been to the Bell Inn yet so thats where we headed.

With a nice courtyard in the back to enjoy our refreshments and talk about how great the rally has been.

The best part about the Dinner Dance and BBQ is that almost everyone goes to it (or should) because that is where it is easy to make new friends and get a little crazy if you need too. All in good fun of course... Announcements are made and awards are given . Bands play and the people dance. Food and beverage are partaken and a whole lot of laughter . YOu remember the BSA Beer Police back on Page one, That should have gone here but I'll let you put that together in your minds.

This is my rally tie. There is a story to go with this tie so sit back and buy me a beer...

Christmas 2009 my son, who would have been a teenager then, was mad at me for some reason or another . So when he gave me my christmas present he threw a balled up plastic grocery bag at me. I wasnt expecting to have to catch anything on Christmas morning so of course it went flying across the room . Once the balled up , squished bag was retrieved, I opened it to see what special thoughtful gift he had bestowed upon me. It was easy to see because it was also unwrapped. Low and Behold , it was two ties. Not just any ties but the absolute worst ties that you can imagine... He put so much thought into finding the worst possible gift that it was almost touching (almost) .... Since I was going to be at the New Zealand rally two months later , Shaun loving the story so much talked me into wearing the tie to the Dinner Dance which is a dress up affair. I did , and now it is my rally tie forever . Thank you Jacob for the wonderful gift of story fodder for years to come.... By the way , after all these years I still send him a photo from the rally du jour, of me wearing the tie. wink

So after all the festivities and some more family time It was sadly coming to a close for me .... Gerry stayed behind for another week to stay with her other sister and have more quality time without me and my motorcycle obsessions..

So I needed to get myself to the Airport. My flight wasn't till the afternoon so I had time to stop off at the Ace Cafe on the North Circular Rd for a quick bite and a little more obsessive behavior...
