1969 Triumph T120R Bonneville

Hang up the Tele and Shut The Front Door! THE 1969 Triumph Bonneville up for Grabs in Excellent condition! THIS IS THE BIKE you have been waiting for! You don't have to be a British Bike fan to love the iconic 69 Bonneville T 120R 650 (649cc) . That's because everyone knows that is THE year Bonneville to have! In 1968 a T 120 broke the World Speed Record for a motorcycle on the Bonneville Salt Flats and Triumph reworked / upgraded and renamed the model the T 120R Bonneville for 1969 to honor the achievement as well as a badge on the forks .
1969 is considered the pinnacle year of production for the Bonneville.

Significant updates were made to the engine including, a new cam design, updated Hepolite pistons and connecting rods.
The transmission was almost completely reworked. The fork yokes were made 1/4" wider to allow for wider front tires.
Many loved the new design of the seat, now with a quilted top of a breathable fabric and thicker padding.

This example is the "Olympic Flame " (deep reddish Orange ) with Silver trim and has a sparse 8,840 miles showing but the title shows 10,600 miles on the Made in U.K. clock. Either way, Very low miles for it's age . It was totally restored by a Triumph Bonneville expert outside of York Pa from top to bottom and purrs like a kitten. It probably has less than 300 miles on it since the restore / overhaul . Mostly just some exercise runs up and down the road and one or two local bike / Triumph nights and shows in Oley Pa and kept in a climate controlled garage . It's my neighbors bike and I went with him out to York to look at it and test ride it. It's just a pleasure to drive and quite nice power delivery for an old air cooled 650 cc bike. Light and agile with probably THE best front drum brakes I have ever ridden! The dual actuated drum cams and beautiful air cooling vents help explain the positive and responsive feel . It just brings a smile to your face so much so that one must remember to keep your mouth closed since there is no windscreen.

The restorer said he would say the bike is between 90% and 95% original in that there are some repo parts were used and some parts off of other Triumph's that may not be 100% correct for the exact year but it's a very true and good running bike for a collector that wants to ride their bike to shows or maybe around town from time to time . If you know anything about Triumph bikes you know they use Non SAE English threads and heads (Whitworth I think) so are hard to get or come by. There are a set of tools included with the bike BTW.

The bike is being tuned up and gone over this week and will be in ready to ride running order. Pa Title is in hand and ready to sign over.

My neighbor bought this bike a few years ago and has since had knee surgery and just is not able to kick start the bike very well anymore and that is the reason it is being sold.
The motorcycle can be seen before sale and picked up in Sassamasville Pa, 19472 Less

There is a fair amount of B.S. in the above narrative:

A) The World Speed record for cycles was set by Triumph in the 1950s,

B) The forks were "made wider" for the re-designed front brake backing plate, not for "wider tires" which were Dunlop K70s, introduced in '68.

C) The "T120R" designation dates back to 1961. It didn't begin in 1969.

D) The "badge" on the fork relates to the "World Speed record Holder" decal, in use as early as 1957.
It was moved to the left-side headlight mount in 1968, when the model-designation decal replaced it in it's former position on top of the gas tank.

E) NON SAE bolts in 1969? NO.
Triumphs of that year had a mix of "Unified" (similar to SAE), and CEI (British Cycle Engineers) bolts beginning in 1968.

A nice bike like this should stand on it's own, without the hoopla being touted in the ad for it.

^^ For sure, the over-the-top hype is one big lol ... as you say, a nice bike ... he did post lots of pics including the frame and engine #s, his thousand words detract.

Thought maybe this bike is known to some BB members. And who is the Triumph expert near York PA?
