The York PA Swap Meet is set for Sunday, January 26, 2020. I have booked a room at the Hampton Inn om Mt. Zion Road (same place as last year) for the 25th. Hope to see the usual suspects again for an evening of debauchery and tomfoolery on Saturday night.

I'll be there for sure. Probably stay with my buddy in Lebanon and see you all at the meet...however an evening of debauchery and tomfoolery sounds pretty inviting.

Reminds me of the old joke (stop me if you've heard it, which would be most people) ...

A guy moves to a tiny village in the Yukon .... his nearest neighbor comes over to visit by dogsled and invites him to the upcoming Christmas party.

"We have it every year, always a good time. Hope you're ready to party!" The new guys says "Oh yeah, I love to keep a party going!" The old sourdough says "Now there's going to be a lot of drinking" "Fine by me" says the new guy. "And there's probably going to be some fighting" "Yep, I know how it is when the boys have had a few, I'll take care of myself!" "And there's probably going to be a lot of knockout sex, too!" says the oldster. "Hey, I'm always up for THAT! How many people do you think will be there?" says the new guy.

"Oh, just you and me ....."

So be careful.

One of the best things about this particular gathering (besides the stellar company), is that it means only 3.5 months until the TSMR!

Thanks for the invite, it's always a pleasant visit (and stay) at your place ....

My plan is Liquid Hero brew pub around 4:00 as a gathering place unless anyone has a different (not necessarily better) idea, and then figure out what to do from there as usual before crashing at a local hostelry .... !

Hey, I was just thinking ...

One definition of "insanity" is "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result".

To avoid this label, perhaps those of us who will be meeting in York on Saturday should try to break the cycle of wandering around York on a Saturday night looking for a decent place to eat that does not have a 2-hour waiting list or a line wrapping around the block to get in, as we've done every year for .... oh, a long time?

Perhaps someone who knows the town could suggest a place where we could eat that:

1) Serves good food
2) Takes reservations

and then

3) Place a reservation for (say) 6 of us, since that seems to be our usual contingent?

and then the rest of us just enjoy whatever decision was made?

I nominate someone besides me, unless no one else volunteers ....

I have been to York once, we had a good meal at "The Paddock". It was a long lunch with drinks, about $80 for 2.

One of the problems is that a lot of the places that serve good food and take reservations require driving, which might inhibit the intake of alcoholic beverages (heaven forbid!). However, it was annoying last year to not only not get the steak next to the hotel and toddeling back to the hotel afterwards that I was looking forward to, but to having to settle for a Red Robin hamburger just made things worse! A few years ago (the year my truck got stuck on his front lawn), Wade recommended an old fashioned steakhouse in downtown York that was fine, but I don't remember the name. Another option would be to go to dinner at 4:30 or 5 (after all were all old duffers!) to avoid the lines and go drinking afterwards. Thoughts?

Ok. Texas Roadhouse, which has the advantage of being next to the hotel and where we tried to go last year does not take reservations. Long Horn which is down the road abit, does not either. Both have this call wait system that is supposed to cut the waiting time in half, but it sounds strange to me. The place Wade recommended a few years ago was Coombs Tavern. It is an old fashioned casual place and I recall that my steak was tasty. It is in the middle of York and takes reservations. My suggestion is that the folks who are meeting up Saturday night look up Coombs on the net. If it is acceptable, say so here over the next few days and I will make reservations. If so, what time does everyone think? If we are meeting at Liquid Hero around 4ish, my suggestion would be 5:30 or 6. Thoughts?
