Hello Guys.
I bought a 530 heavy duty chain made by rk. The width of my chain is 22.9 mm or .9015" My question is what size of chain properly fits a 57 DB 34 with 3/8 sprockets. A A10 would be the same. I was told to watch that the chain doesn't rub on the chain case. Thanks Jeff in Canada

I recommend to all my customers to use a Renold chain or a Japanese equivalent chain

Renold chains are narrower than your typical Japaneses chain (RK, DID, etc)

5/8" X 3/8" would replace a 530 chain

I gave up on Renolds chain a long time ago. It was poor quality.

Having better service from Iwis.

ok i know you are talking about secondary chain but just saying the DID triplex i put on the A65 is brilliant best ever ! and ive tried plenty of makes. DID is endorsed by Valentino Rossi and he wouldn't put his name to junk.

On the A65 the all those extra wide chains eg "heavy duty X ring O ring" are a bit wide there is b*ugger all clearance on the chain guard and around the GB sprocket., Sure some guys get away with it , no idea how , but more have clearance issues , so just get "standard" ........and yes the A10 takes the same secondary chain , but dont know what 57 DB 34 takes

Ignoramus, you can use DID 520Xring chain on an A65 with suitable sprockets, what I use on the 883. Same width as a std non Oring 530. It's very strong and lasts much longer. I'm surprised no one does a kit.

yep i know Mark but i wouldn't want to use thinner sprockets ..........nothing wrong with it really just a preference thing..........ive even heard of (and seen) guys running thinner alloy sprockets ......probably just a race thing?

I use a 520 O ring chain on my B31 (a goldie to all intents and purposes) I figured if it can handle the 128 BHP / 76 ft lbs of my Aprillia it will take anything the BSA can throw at it.

I have found that chains and sprockets tend to last a lot longer on British bikes than on Jap bikes, which seem to quickly hook the teeth on the sprockets. I have always assumed this was down to better quality materials but I suppose the use of a cush drive on the crankshaft might be a contributing factor.

Hooking is caused by wear at the root of the teeth.
Probably one of the reasons jap bikes wear their chains and sprockets out is they get used for high mileages compared to the brit bike that does 50 miles, 4 times a summer

Does anyone make 520 chain sprockets specifically for BSA and older Triumph bikes?

Or is it necessary to do a weld-up conversion of old ones with new 520 tooth-rings grafted on?

Either that or get them ground/turned down, not that hard to do.
I've never bothered for the road as chains aren't expensive and normally last 10k miles even if looked after as badly as i do.

My only experience with this is that when I put a Tsubaki chain on the A65 I had to open up the case opening just a little.
I see that they now make a line of chain to "British" standards, whatever that means.
Got DID on both my Triumphs with no problem.
