There is a wire that is wrapped in cloth on my 69 Lightning that goes below the coils and then down between the engine and frame, and after that I cannot find where it goes. It would be just one or two wires. I would need to remove the engine from the frame to see where it goes.

Can anyone here please tell me where this wire attaches? I know that this description is not the greatest but maybe someone will read this that has experience wiring an A65 and will recognize this wire.

Thank you in advance.

More info needed:-
- is the cable attached to the coils or not, if attached it could be a trigger wire from the points or EI?
- what color is the wire, it may be a direct connection between the battery and ammeter?

Some pics would be good.

your right , thats a lousy discription .

if its a lone wire snaking down and under the engine ... its the oil pressure switch wire .
red/w green.
but i think it should come down the front down tube ?

the only other wires into the engine are the 2 points wires
... a wire comes from each coil ... one white/black .... one white/yellow
each wire runs a set of points . they enter at the back top of transmission .

it could also be ... un-used wires , prewired but unused ... to run turn signals ?
one green/w red
one green/w white .

It would help to know the colours but I believe the 69/70 wiring looms had a section of wire in place for indicators. It is listed in the wiring diagrams. 2 wires from looks like mid section of the bike to the front/headstock. Maybe it’s these?

Nb: sorry quinten, hadn’t seen your reference to turn signals.

The wire being referred to goes between the back of the engine and the frame.

Could it be the wire to the brake light switch? That should be brown.

i think you got it . .. its a great guess anyway
Alternator wires head down between the back engine mounts ... towards the primary side chain tunnel .
if you look carefully at this pic of an earlier engine , they are there ...
if the wires head under the tunnel ... maybe a previous owner got creative with the wiring ?

Sounds like alternator wires, although I don't think I've ever seen cloth wrapped ones.

mrcarb, in regard to posting pictures, here's what I do: Go to postimage.org. Sign up - this is just a matter of assigning a userid and password; no money involved. Follow the buttons to upload picture(s) from your hard drive. Click on image. Click "Share" button. Right-click on URL labeled "Hotlink for forums". Click "Copy". Go to Reply area in forum. Right-click at cursor. Click "Paste". (In other words, copy and paste URL into reply area.)

Depending on your camera, you may have to re-size pictures. I haven't had to do that. postimage says the pictures I upload are 4320 X 3240.
