The bike is a '68 T120R.

I am fitting new oil seals (97-1500) in the front fork, but it's not obvious which way round they go.
When fitted, does one see the metal part of the seal when looking down the dust excluder from the top where the spring fits?

The spring inside the seal always faces the oil.

There's no spring inside the seal, unfortunately.
The seal goes in easily with the metal side facing downwards, but it doesn't seem correct.

Thanks to all who looked, but it would appear that no one knows the answer; I'll try elsewhere.
Thanks.

My notes say "Open lip/springs go down (to threaded end of seal holder)"

That should help. If you find out differently please come back and let us know.

Cheers,

Reporting back.
It turns out that I was sold the wrong seals that came without springs.
I ordered a new set, and these came with springs, which fitted perfectly spring side down.
Thanks to kommando and Hermit.
