Hello Group
I am a former owner of a 1970 Royal Enfield 750 Interceptor, new owner of one of the new 650s.
I would like to replace the plastic mudguards with polished stainless, a la Commando, or chrome plated steel.
Hitchcock indicates to me they plan only to offer alloy mudguards, which I feel compelled to frequently polish.
Can anyone suggest a source for what I seek? Has anyone had alloy mudguards chromed?
Thanks

Aluminium doesn’t chrome very well. Or rather it flakes off after some time and leaves the aluminium badly eaten away. In case of a mudguard i doubt it would do very well being chromed.

If the new guards follow a standard form then you could obtain a steel or stainless version.

Now let’s all have a beer beerchug

Why bother?
Plastic mudguards do not rust or crack. Chrome is only shiny bling that stays on the metal for a limited period of time

These come in different radii, to fit different diameter wheels.

We sometimes offer 'one-offs' but these will obviously have to wait until machinery is set up for the larger order and 'tag on' behind.

In stock we keep a universal range with 30-odd different sections and a myriad of lengths and radii. The length of a guard is not critical on a universal but the radius is. Measured from the spindle centre to the centre line of the guard, this radius controls the fit and the look on the bike, production guards vary by 1/8" increments.

Should you ring and enquire about a one-off guard, we will ask for: section, radius and length (see diagram) - so please have an answer ready!

Available in mild-steel, chrome, alloy and stainless, they're all made here in the Black Country on the original machines.

Ward, Hitchcock's offers stainless steel undrilled fenders in four sizes. Go to their website and type in these numbers - 200064S, 200063S and 200065S. 200062S is for 21" wheels. The only hitch is that the front fender is only offered for 19" radius wheels.
