My 1967 Atlas has started leaking from where the kicker shaft comes through the gearbox outer cover. Do I press out the old bushing and press in a new one, or is there a different way I should do this? Thanks.

Often the O-ring for the kick starter is perished and/or loose in the outer cover. Sometimes the corresponding steel bush is worn, and sometimes also the kick-starter shaft. I've seen that steel bush loose in the housing. Worth checking it all carefully before pressing out the steel bush.

When replacing the O-ring, note that Norton finally supplies a Quad Ring for that function, but you are best served by machining the outer cover to take a radial lip seal as fitted to the MKIII.

You could also just fit the seal which goes in without any machining.
The bush has to come out to fit it.

Yes there is a modern type seal that will fit between the bushings without the need to mod. Works great. Did it on 74 Commando, 66 Atlas and 67 atlas. Will look for that seal number.
