Greeting all!
I might have asked this before; I have read information stating that the Metor Minor Sports were fitted with "sports" camshafts... Anyone know if this was something other than than a choice from the 3 (?) basic offerings by RE? Please advise!

REgards!

The answer to this is probably in the parts books.

http://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/Parts-Book-Online

If you look at the later year books, the meteor minor is listed with
14. Inlet cam "R" sports 35344

whereas for 1957 the 500 twin cam is listed as
14. Inlet cam 32706

No idea what you mean by "basic offerings", but I'd say that was pretty clear ?

The part numbers Rohan found are also the PN's for the big twins. 32705 and 32706 were touring cams, 35344 and 34355 were the race cams. (The earliest 750 twins had a pair of 32705A cams in 1962 and 1963. 500 twin production stopped in 1961, but there was a final batch of 72 Sports Twins in 1963 and I have no indication what cams were used in those last bikes.

Thanks Rohan and Chris for sharing the Info!
I hate to say, that I was not aware of the new format for the parts books by Hitchcock's. Much easier to surf and compare numbers, Thanks Rohan!... and yes , I am behind the times , it seems! Also, somewhat confusing for the US are some issues regarding cams in the Indian (RE) Twins. By basic offerings, I meant that it appears RE exchanged just a few cam grinds among different year models with varying results. Chris: you mention "a pair of 32705A cams in 1962 and 1963" in the earliest of Interceptors. That would be the VAX Interceptors, yes? Would the 32705A cams have also featured a cam sprocket with the "mythical "A" marking? I have not yet been able to locate/ find one to compare with STD. Anyway, I wondering what was ( or if anything was ) unique about the Meteor Minor Sports. Thanks, again!

The pair of 32705A cams was in the first 750cc Interceptors, those with YA engine and the earliest YB's. The "A" marked inlet sprocket to retard timing is no myth. It increased performance at hi rev's.

There were several differences in the MM Sports; one was the use of non-QD rear hub. A retrograde step maybe, but it would reduce weight of the bike, and rotational inertia in the drive wheel. (Maybe it was just a performance excuse to justify a cheaper part.)

Thinking more on MM Sports, it had 2 into 1 exhaust, again lighter (and cheaper for RE). Mark Mumford reminds me there was a small frame version when the 500 twin engine was reworked to be Meteor Minor in 1958. It was an interesting amalgam of parts, some from other models, some unique. Mark is restoring one, and is the expert, not me. He has difficulty posting here but can be found....
