Posting here in R&T because this is only marginally Brit related. I see some Brit bikes, Triumph at least, used Veglias. I have a speedo from a Cagiva, using it on Project 39-1/2, Triumph powered project.

Assuming I can safely open the bezel and access the insides of the speedometer - Is there a way to reset the odometer to Zero? Without running the odometer 89,657 miles?

Professional gauge repairers for Vaugelias are few and far between, the rest see them as none openable so I suspect you are on your own,

Try reverse to see if that works.

Al , I have reset several vintage car speedos..The odometer is a gear/ pawl drive system and with a little disassembly of tiny parts the number drums can be set to whatever you want...I assume, maybe wrong, that all mechanical speedometers are similar.. But as said above, it may be difficult to open up..

Okay, last night I was able to take the bezel off with much effort, and found that the odometer will lift out and the drums can be rotated to the desired position. I just hope I can get the bezel back on without damage. I watched some videos so I will follow their technique of clamping the speedo down onto the bezel and seal gasket.
