Is there any difference between a Trident , a Twin or a single AAU? I am looking to buy one for my twin. I am guessing that they must be all the same.

I've seen 5, 10 and 12 degree AAU's and there could be more. As to which bike used which, you'd have to research. The vast majority of twins used 12 degree advance and the ET ignition bikes used 5 I think.
The AAU's are clearly stamped as to how much advance they supply.

The 5 degree ones were for energy transfer ignition. I’d avoid them (and energy transfer ignition).

As for the others, it doesn’t make much difference.

The triple AAUs don't have the notch in the taper for the camshaft location pin and the bobweight springs are different but are 12 degrees.

Thanks for the answers. Mine is 12 degrees. Thinking about it there can't be any difference between them as long as they advance clockwise. When I have been looking I have avoided ones that had been fitted to a Trident or single and probably missed some good ones.

I mean the range in degrees shouldn’t matter. You may want your locating pin and all that.

FWIW the '72 T120 and T150 AAU are different part numbers.
Makes sense, 38 degrees relative to 120 is different than 38 degrees relative to 180.

I didn't notice LAB's point that the trident aau doesn't have the cut out for the pin in the camshaft so wouldn't fit my bike. Looks like only the twin one fits a twin!

No, the 38 degrees are part of the 360 degrees of a full circle, in both cases.

Unit Singles do not have the notch regardless of the badge on the tank, have seen 12,10 and 5 degrees versions.

Or shorten the taper and do away with it, just like you would if you were fitting a Boyer etc.
