Here we are Wednesday and STILL no sign of a yarn.... frown

So as I'm back from the Hell Hole, and I've just cut the grass and loaded up Cochise for a Rally this weekend, I've just enough time to get this started, even though I said I'd wait till someone else did it... confused

Got home from the Hell Hole t'other Friday, Tom bro dude had text me saying they were in Blighty, and were waiting to hook up with Lannis. I just got home in time to shower, and get the stink of Diesel off me, when the door bell rang, and there they were... thumbsup

Best of all they'd smuggled in an immigrant I'd not seen for years, seems Tappet the Kiwi was found somewhere in NYC, outside an Opium den, White powder all over him and out of his mind, or intrepid travellers had cleaned him out. Which had taken them a long while, but the lad was Rally ready, so he stuck his beak into some liquid...

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Tom Bro Dude, then set about getting all spick and span, and ready for the Sunshine...

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

And after Lannis had established his Crab Peeler did indeed work over here, we settled in for the night, next morning we were on a Mission, first the bikes were dragged out of the fettling shed, then off to the As Much as You can Eat breakfast....

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Well I've started this thread, so now it's over to the lads to finish it, I'll throw in my... 2c if and when it's needed.... beerchug

Oh! Oh! Three guys and only two bikes. Are both bikes gonna be loaded to the gunnels with all the campin necessities? ... Can’t wait to see how this works out!

We went, we stayed a while, met with friends, did a few things, came home.

Thems fightin' words, varmint!

All right, so here's a few.

Evening before the "off" from Chatham to Moreton-on-Marsh, we went to see some local sights. Southeast England is surprisingly hilly, an overlook across the Chalk Downs I think ...

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]
[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

Tom, Cynthia, and Shaun ready to go, the faithful bikes waiting. Shaun did a great job prepping them, all three BSAs splashed through the rain, filtered through stopped traffic, and endured some city riding for hundreds of miles and got us "there and back again".

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

We stopped after an hour or two for breakfast at an "all it's possible to eat" place, where I of course made my own proper "Full English" (bacon, sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, beans, tomato, fried slice, and all) but took no pictures, shame be it to me.

A couple more hours and we stopped at the "Rose Revived" pub to meet Kev. and KarlB and Julie for a pint. I think these are the Revived Roses:

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

It's in "Newbridge", where of course the bridge over the Thames here is 600 years old so that makes it "new"; you can see the rain coming in the distance, it was with us on and off all day ....

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

The Pub light isn't so good here but you can vaguely make out (L to R) Shaun, Teresa Twyman, Cynthia, Julie and KarlB, Tom richochetrider Banks, and Kev.'s beer.

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

And when we got to the Rally, first thing I see is this parked outside the building where my room is ...

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

All right, I've had my eight, time for someone to pick up the narrative ...

Lannis

Didn't take us long to get stuck into the rally; 420 attendees. Here's the happy crowd at reception time, when the Lady Mayoress of Moreton-on-Marsh welcomed the rallyers. Andy Lorenz, the Founder of the Feast, is in the yellow cap making sure all is going well:

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

We had a bit of light entertainment as a posse (or whatever they're called in groups!) of Morris dancers invaded the rally:

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

It's not an International until Dieter shows up on Dark Star; that's Lena next to it:

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

And Rene next to the custom A65 he rode in; It's the Grey Ghost or Grey Phantom or something, I can't remember, but it's a really nice bike.

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

KarlB and Julie and Wade's Gerry on a sunny Sunday, relaxing and socializing. (Out of 10 days, we had 1 with no rain at all, 2 with rain all day long, and 7 with SOME rain during the day. Liquid English Summer Sunshine!)

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

Here's Geoff and Bryan sorting out their sidecars, with Geoff's son-in-law Matt looking on:

The Flash and a Box has been everywhere, and has got many places to go yet ...

Well a good time was had by all. I came home to immediate and constant work... So I've only had a minute or two to begin processing my many photos. Here are a few tho, a smattering.

Here's The Herd, at the ready;

and the heard again, out side of the Grazing Place... (not its real name)

[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]

The Rose Revived, where Kev came out to meet us, I believe this was his suggestion and a lovely old pub it was, too. KarlB and the lovely JulieB came out to visit in Moreton On Marsh for the Open Day on Sunday- they rode up in advance to make a weekend of it, and they popped by as well! I had a grin so big I thought my face was going to split in two! We only stopped for an ale and a minute- but it was sweet!

Beyond this, it gets random.... so. here goes, more "smatterings", scenes from around during the week... a whole pile of people showed up on Open day. One of them was riding this Egli framed BSA!

OK now I'm fast-forwarding quite a ways ahead of the game but hey- this is what I have so far.

England is full of ancient Stone Circles. Stonehenge gets all the press & glory, but these things are all over and are all really awesome! This is the Rollrights Stone Circle.

[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]

A very lovely site, watched over by these three "ladies"

[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]

We went to visit a big ass Palace, and among other things, there was this mantle featuring, of all things, cow skulls! I asked a worker why the cow skulls and not only did she not know anything about them, she never even realized they were there! She did her best to find something out, tho and kept coming back to me with theories and ideas... kinda weird tho, in this fancy schamncy palace, dontcha think?

[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]

The Palace was in the village of Woodstock tho- significant because we happened to be there on August 16th- a day in the middle of the run of days of the Original Woodstock Music And Arts Festival, held August 15-18, 1969- 50 years ago!
Peace, yo.

[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]

Finally, on our way to Heathrow during our very own personal Brexit (see what I did there? laugh ), we came upon this guy rolling his vintage Bentley up the motorway! We passed, he passed. We passed him again, and I guess thought he'd show us- as he put the hammer down, disappearing out of sight ahead of us in the not inconsiderable traffic! we were traveling along at about 70 MPH so he was flogging that old beast!

[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]

I'll post more as I get around to processing my pix, but there's a beginning/middle/end synopsis for y'all.

Excellent pics, I'm relaxing on the beach with the family this week so I'll watch and relive the rally with everyone....

And I'm waiting for this job to come open so I can put this on my business cards...

So, lets see... Shaun started this thread, but it was just a teaser. Lannis went on and send some first pics of the Rally, and Tom served more eye-candy.
I think its my turn now to tell our story. Here we go.
Rene, Lena and myself were leaving Hamburg Saturday, 3 o`clock in the morning! to avoid heavy traffic and to be early at the ferry at Dover / France.
We stuffed the two bikes in my VW Sharan van and with all the camping gear we were pretty much stuffed.
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
but Lena was still happy for the things to come...

It was a bit windy when we arrived at the channel and the boat, the "Pride of Kent", was 90 minutes to late. The crossing was in time frame, but we had to wait outside the port of Dover for about THREE hours before we could land the boat! Ferry company P&O says it was because the stormy sea, but i guess they just couldn`t handle it somehow. Maybe they had not enough staff on the docks`? Anyway, in the end we arrived tired, but sound after about 18 hours on the road at the rally.
Big hello to everyone and building up the camp just before sundown.
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
here we are at the line up and could see professionals at work

pics of our bus trip to the black country museum
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
street scenery with live actors
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
well, i swear, i have not been here before...but..the name of the boat suits me
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
another day we were out to this railway station
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
with a steam powered locomotive
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
but Lena liked this slightly modified Land Rover better, because it will be safer for the next zombie apocalypse....
It was part of the movie Judge Dredd with Sylvester Stallone once

One week is always too short to do all the things and see and talk to the friends as you wanted to do. But i was glad to meet up with our british friends, especially Bryan and Marie, to see the americanos, buddys from Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands and the whole rest of the civilized brit bike world.

One more point that we were heavy loaded with our van; i had pictures with me that i wanted to offer to real BSA nuts, that we are. At the dinner and dance some of the participants had the chance to fetch a look at some of the stuff. But let me show you what i am talking about:
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
some kind of "shabby look" steel frame, Digital print on alloy plate, size about 70x50 cm
pics taken in Hamburg, Harbour area

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
Poster of BSA A 10, location Hamburg, size about 50x70 cm
it almost looks like a painting

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
three small prints on alloy in steel frame, size about 30x20 cm

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
Poster of an M20/21 printed on special metal foil, size 40x70 cm

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

and i have my hands on more of that prints if someone is interested. Just send me a message. Just saying : i am not the owner of that pictures; i am just the caretaker. I am not interested in making lot of money!
And because i think i know some "BSA Nuts" and would like to see some of this Art in the right hands of enthusiasts.
The pics and the frames are made of a female artist from Hamburg.her name is Anja Tobien. You can find more about her work at this link: www.Tobien-Images.de check that out
Well, thats for the moment.. it is getting late here in Germany.
Cheers
Dieter

The Rose Revived at Newbridge on the Thames......the oldest bridge which still crosses the River Thames is at Newbridge. This "new" bridge, was built in the 13th.Century by Benedictine Monks. Behind it is the split roof structure of The Rose Revived.

It is said that Oliver Cromwell drank here whilst on his campaigns. He ordered an extra tankard of ale and placed in it a drooping rose that he had been wearing. The rose revived and the pub gained its name.

Kev, THANKS for that man. It was a more-awesome-than-most pub for sure.

SO meanwhile I have a few more images processed and filed into Zenolio... I'm just going to run down the rally day to day, from my perspective... might take a while so bear with me and post your own pix and stuff in the interim.

For part of the Opening Ceremony, we had a troupe of Morris Dancers. This is a quirky, traditional English sort of dancing complete with costumes and musical accompaniment. I like this sort of thing, but a little goes a pretty good ways... take a look.

Awesome photos gents.... I am swamped with work ever since I got back but I did manage to download my digital pics to the computer.... About 4000 of them between Cornwall with the family and Cotswolds with Friends and BSAs .... (note the friends first) Thats what these rallies have become for me.... Time with friends !!

Anyway tonight I walked home from work and on the way I picked up some film that I dropped off from my point and shoot camera that I took to England and I think I got a couple "special" photos on a roll or two.

Didnt have time to do any post editing on these so they are straight out of the camera

Monday, we had the ride out to a Cricket Club for the BSA Line-Up. It's fun and also it puts into perspective just how many bikes are in attendance- a LOT. Kinda tough to tell from looking around camp, everyone's scattered about, but here, they are all in plain sight. Pretty cool, really.

Here's Shaun all queued up, ready for the off.

Tappet went along too...

Among all the "normal", every-day BSAs, there were a few that were special, at least by my way of seeing them. Dieter's Dark Star fits neatly into the "special" category.

This Firebird Scrambler was pretty sweet too

Lots and lots of nice bikes and people. How I wish I can make one of these rallys someday. But I have to ask...were the BSA Beer Police there to make sure Shaun collected on all the Ales he was owed, or to make sure no one was drinking any sub standard brews? laugh
