Peter Fonda who represented a big part of the 60's chopper scene and became a household name has passed away on the 16th August from lung cancer.
It was 50 years ago when Easy Rider was released and was a big influence on the chopper scene back in the day and inspired a lot of people to go down the Chopper route.
Rest in peace Peter, a true icon.

I am one of them!! I turned 66 this past June. I grew up on Long Island and had many influences as a young'n. My world was Brit motorbikes and sporty cars early then muscle cars. Went to see ER 3x's when it came out along with On Any Sunday when it came out. At 16 had a really insane trip to Yasgurs farm in a 62 Plymouth Valiant wagon with 3 good friends. I was totally crazed over Billy's panhead!! I have 2 Franklin models of both bikes. I got my first full blown chopper in 98 It's a 1969 T100 (don't tell it's a #'s match bike) with a weld on rear, stretched and raked neck with a Durfee girder & Hallcraft frt. wheel with a small drum brake. Rear is the stock hub laced to a drop center 16" HD rim. Still have it and ride it often, along with 2 BSA's and a 69 T150!!
RIP Captain America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I was a teenager, 10th - 11th grade, me and my buddies would skip home from school early to watch Easy Rider at my place on multiple occasions ! That was around 1984-1985 and me and my father had recorded it off Cinemax, so we had a VHS tape of it. I always loved that movie as well as The Wild Angels. There are many memorable lines in Easy Rider and for some weird reason, one of the first that always comes to mind is.. "You know Billy, we blew it" as well as the exchange in the canyon between Luke Askew and Peter Fonda...among many others.

RIP Peter Fonda aka Wyatt....Captain America.

Wyatt: You ever want to be somebody else?
Stranger: I'd like to try Porky Pig.
Wyatt: I never wanted to be anybody else.

good landmark movie. fonda himself was an asshole and wasnt any better than his sister as far as that crap he has been quoted saying over the years. the latest some nasty stuff about trumps youngest son on face book. never mind he gave no credit to benny hardy whom built the bikes for ER. and he has even signed off on capt america replicas as genuine knowing they were fakes. credible friends of mine whom
have had encounters with pete at the rock store and shows say he always travels with a
entourage of suck ups and he is just full of himself. i dont wish him dead. but his death doesnt bother me any. as a landmark in biker cultural time , i guess its meaningfull as its the 50th anniversary of the movies release. i think. myself i liked the billy bike better than cpt america and i liked Hopper as an actor much more. RIP both men.
