We have a nice 72 Trident in our collection and we are considering selling it. I have tried to find comparable bikes to get a good idea on a price but I have not had a lot of luck. Does anyone have a good source for values or does anyone have a value in mind? Our bike is in completetly stock condition and painted black and white.

Thanks,

Doc

In my experience, the market price when you are looking to sell is always a good bit lower than what it is when you are looking to buy!!

Dovc--a photo would be useful in giving you views on value.
The standard color for a 72 Trident was regal purple and stone white.
Non standard stuff tends to reduce price.

There's a 72 listed for $5,900 ... under 5000 miles
... it's a runner .
Can't seem to snag a larger image [Linked Image]

.

There's a 75 , another runner,
13,000 miles , listed today for $ 6,500
... bought at auction ... for $8000 ( Health forces sale ) [Linked Image]

Thanks everyone, the one that we have is black and white. That would seem to be non-stock from what I am seeing. The bike is in very good condition and, except for he paint, it appears to be completely stock. If I can get a photo I will post it here. My feeling is that something around $5,000 would be a fair value. Thanks again, I know that "whats it worth" questions are hard to answer.

One more question on the 72 Trident. I found several photos of bikes painted the same as ours, black on the tank top with white on the lower part. I also found an ad for a 1972 Triumph factory photo showing the same scheme. Is there a home market scheme in black and white?

Thanks,

Doc

In 1972 the home market variant had the larger "breadbin" gas tank in purple.

Thanks, this bike has the typical teardrop shaped tank similar to a TR6R.

How sure are you that it is a '72? 71s were black and white and it was not unusual for dealers to date leftovers as of the year they were sold. Have you checked the numbers?

As for value, condition plays a major part. If it is in good condition, you might do a bit better than $5G.
