Just finished the rebuild of my semi-offroad BSA. When I originally built the bike, some 30 years ago, I slotted a B33 engine in, but I always wanted a small-fin Goldie engine for it. Over the past few months I built a ZB34 GS engine up from parts and today I had the bike running for he first time. In building the bike I was inspired by the Catalina as well as the BSA factory trials bikes of the Fifties. The frame is standard B31, with a shortened swinging arm (as the factory bikes had). Central oil tank, petrol (gas) tank, 21” front wheel and skid plate are original Gold Star parts; saddle is a Dunlop Drilastic (possibly from the Thirties) and mudguards (fenders) and exhaust system are aftermarket items. As for the engine: cylinder and head are early ZB34 (with integral rockerbox), lefthand crankcase is from the ZB34 5000-series, righthand crankcase is B31, as is the crankshaft. I fitted a 8.5:1 piston, standard cams (as did the trials Goldies) and an AMAL 389 carburettor. A rebuilt Magdyno provides sparks and lighting; I fitted an electronic regulator enabling me to ride without a battery.

nice Hans,
did you build the rear mudguard stay or did you buy it`? i also want to use this kind of mudguard stay..
that´s my bike and i´m working every day on it.

It looks nice, Hans.

Can I ask where you acquired the exhaust system? I have a BB34A which is in need of a high level exhaust, and that looks just right.

Thanks for the comments on my bike.

Rico: I made the rear mudguard stay from 15 mm tubing (as used in connecting central heating radiators) and had it chromed.

Shane & NYBSAGUY: the high-level exhaust (and heat shield) I bought from feked.com in Great Britain, which advertizes it as "BSA B32, B34, 350/500cc 1954- High Level Exhaust Pipe" at £65.95. The silencer is a so-called Shorty and is sold wolrdwide at prices around $36. It does not do much silencing though, so I may fit an extra decibel killer in the exhaust pipe....
