Should the rear brake backing plate on a ‘66 Hornet be chromed or polished aluminum or flat aluminum? Also, is it flat around the brake pivot or does it have a proud ridge reinforcing it like the ‘68s? Thanks in advance.

Lew

Probably chrome, but I believe it was during the run of what we'd call 66 that they changed. I have an early number 66 that's chrome and i think it's always been there. For the rest, have to go look at some parts.

As a side note you cannot use an ally back plate on a hub designed for a steel plate, not only is the OD of the ally bigger but the centre hole is also.... as is the bearing that fits into the hub.

Thanks! Then I think that the steel plate is legit.

Not a Hornet but my 1966 A65L Lightning has a chrome steel backing plate and I definitely believe it is original and untouched. FWIW thumbsup

Lew I finally remembered to look at one of mine; nothing on it I would call a reinforcing ridge.
