Have my front forks off my 1955 RE Indian Trailblazer - and I cant seem to pull the sliders off their bottoms. I have the threaded ring off the midsection. Is there anything else holding them together or might the bushings be that badly malformed from abuse? Advice? Picture here ….. http://photos.app.goo.gl/nPFrhQvs7bYYf6sT7. Not entirely familiar with those particular forks, but don't you have to undo the nut at the bottom ?

Yes, and there is a hollow threaded stud the sticks out

You have to drive the hollow stud through,it's usually on a fine taper so can be stuck,use a piece of wood and tap it with a hammer.

I didn't get back to it, I was out in a riding school in Cali. Gonna hope to try again later this week

Thank you. A little bit of heat and a slight tap of the hammer on the stud with a nut, and it did come loose. I did not want to damage them. Next question though -- is there a special tool to unthread the internals from the fork slider once the bottoms are removed. Looks like a brass threaded round nut that would take a hook spanner - but the race is so small. ??

Actually, I did get that special round brass nut off. It was not tight - but the internal spring will not fall out of the chrome fork tube. There is a hex fitting at the top of the tube, but I'm at a loss. It appears as if it's press fitted or part of the fork tube. Must I remove the spring too? Are there any more fittings inside? My new tubes from Hitchcocks came with new springs, they slide out easily with their new tube pairs. Wondering if I can use them as they are.

Posting my own answer - in case someone has the same question later.

"The hexagon (or bi-hex) hole on top of the fork main tube is to take a tool for screwing and unscrewing the maintube to the top yoke. This is a fixed part of the maintube and can not be removed. The fork springs must be fitted from the bottom after the damper rod assembly has been removed and should then fall out." Mine were just stuck somehow.
