Back at work on Project 39-1/2 ...after ten months (!). Well, you all helped me decide that, Yes, we need a top engine mount. So will this work - its just one set of two Triumph torque stays, two spacers and centrally mounted sturdy bracket welded to frame. There will be a 10mm bolt holding the stays to the frame bracket. This photo is just a set up...

If I have to have both sets of torque stays I can do it but it will be a lot more work trying to fit them with all the other frame mounted electrical stuff in that area.
Will this be adequate?
Thanks
Al

well, remember you've mostly only got the two long, long, head bolts holding the upper part of the motor still, if you only do one.

think about the later OIF head steadies, though. on those, there was a single strap connecting the two rocker boxes together in the middle, that continued aft and was bolted to a single frame mount, like yours. i'd think about using two short straps connecting the rocker box head bolts together, front to back. then your single frame mount at the rear might be just fine.

i'd try 1/8-inch to keep enough threads on the bolts for the nuts.

Thanks Kevin. I thought of that but didn't mention it - wanted to see what you all would say first. I wonder if I could make a one piece strap/torque stay by flattening a long piece of tubing, making the end of it like the original torque stay. I half remember seeing a video on how to press tubing to make finished flat ends. I'll search that - maybe I'll get lucky and find that video, but it shouldn't be hard to do anyway. Appreciate your input.
Al

The Mojave frame is plenty beefy and that looks like the perfect frame connection. But without connecting the two rocker boxes, it seems the intake rocker box gonna be takin' all the shakin'.

That looks like a Trident head steady. But, a triple vibrates a whole lot less.

Okay... How's this look? I took two head steadies, cut off one end, held it into a grinder disc to make a notch, filed it and fitted a 3/16" x 1" flat bar, brazed it in place. Made new spacers 7/16" wide on the lathe (don't overestimate my lathe skill - this is about my limit!). After the photos I tacked the bracket in place with the oxy actylene outfit. Correct thin nuts are on order.

Before this I had to find my rear engine mounts so everything would be tightened in place. This took about an hour or more because I haven't seen them since 11 months ago. After I found the box with the right side mount, it took another 10-15 minutes to locate the left side parts box. While preparing to weld I selected and cleaned the torch tip, then I changed a disc in the CD player. Prolly took me 5-10 minutes to find where I set the torch tip down. Maybe things will improve as I get back in the groove.

that should work just fine, else every T140 since 1973 is junk. slot the holes in the steadies a wee bit, or make sure theyre perfect.

i use 9/16-inch hex nuts for spacers. nobody has ever noticed.
