T100 Unit Layshaft T4041/57-4041 seems a constant partno from at least 63 to 74 end of production. But baffling me is that these seem to be two versions of it.

[Version A[/b] had a 1/16" LESS dia, for a slightly smaller needle roller in the KS end than the Gearbox Shell end.

Version B second had the same needle roller on both ends.

BOTH versions can be seen here clearly, with the same part number LAYSHAFT 4041

Well known eBay Seller DOTLER claims the smaller end dia one is for 1970-on Daytonas yet the part no does not change in the Catalogue

My question for anyone who has the STEPPED AT ONE END 'Version A' of this layshaft is - that is the depth in mm or ins of the step? Will much appreciate a measurement

I will have to grind one of the two SAME DIA Version B ones I have to fit my KS Rachet T 1827, as that accepts the slightly smaller needle roller. This Part is viewable here T1827 KS Rachet.. It is a very mysterious part. Draganfly does not have it in their lists, nor can I find it so far in any T100 parts catty...but for sure the odd one crops up on eBay and I have one in my hand!

Many Thanks Peter in Africa

Some models use a needle bearing while others use a bushings

Have you checked earlier books? I recall the earlier to be smaller perhaps?

I'd do some more research before turning down a layshaft- it seems needle rollers require a harder surface than a bronze bushing. This was well covered on here in the past, by some very smart fellers.

I checked 4 parts books and found 10 different numbers for "layshaft assemblies", depending on gears installed and model usage. Realizing it's a deep subject, I quickly lost interest.

Online workshop manual gives dimensions for layshafts and bushings and bearings.

Fwiw, my '63 T100SS had bushings (sports model).
