that doesn't really answer my question, how far below the top of filler neck is full ? I saw another thread that mentioned 6 inches , but that seems way too lillte oil to me based on where the decal was ?
What exactly about, "extend one middle finger and insert it into the oil tank filler 'til the other knuckles reach the tank top, correct oil level will just reach the tip of the extended middle finger" doesn't answer your question?
If you must have only your own dipstick and you need Airfix instructions:-
. Fill the tank until the level reaches the tip of your middle finger as instructed above.
. Insert your dipstick.
. Withdraw dipstick and mark it at oil level.
Or, if you bothered to read the rest of the linked thread, you'd see the later oil tank cap with an attached dipstick fits and is available to buy. If you need the part number of the cap with attached dipstick, look it up in a later parts book - e.g. linked from http://vintagebikemagazine.com/links/parts-books/

Neither the oil level nor the decal
position is an exact science.
was fitted by someone paid piecework, not with a ruler.
Again, if you'd bothered to read the linked thread, you'll see that several other experienced long-time Triumph owners use the method I advised. Do you really think we all have exactly the same-length middle fingers?
