Allan - Thanks for the QRD. My head is spinning on this.

Mono block Jetting,
Early Mark 1 jetting.
Late Mark 1 jetting.

Strangely It's beginning to make sense.
And I think I know what I'm going to do: Late MK1 Jetting and head to the Dyno...

Thanks again..

Does anyone have the paint code for Mandarin Red. I have to repaint a 1964 Spitfire Hornet gas tank.

Thanks for posting the 2015 paint link Kommando. It clarifies lot of color questions.

I think Gary had that posted once, too, but in a different line of paint. Looking at that now, I don't even see a brand. I guess a paint guy would know. It looks damn orange, but matches an NOS tank I had.

I am searching for a front rim for a 1966-67 BSA West Coast Hornet. They are a 3.19 rim, stamped (WM3-19) and 68-5558.

Hi all,
I am trying to figure out an engine code for a bottom end I have. It is A65E *** which I am thinking is maybe a 64 or 65 Spitfire Hornet. I do not have a frame with it. The closest frame I would have is a 66 Spitfire (A65S). Is there any advantage of putting these two together? What would the bottom end be worth on it's own?
Thanks

There is no "advantage of putting these two together". Really no disadvantage either other than it would not be a matching numbers machine. But some do not care about that. Since you didn't give the numbers of the Spitfire Hornet (the E) A65E engine, I can't identify what year it is. '64 started at 101, '65 started at 701. So you can figure that out.

The bottom end, no jugs, pistons, heads, valve train, carbs., would likely be worth a few hundred dollars if it was all usuable (plus hard and expensive to ship). Parting it out would bring a bit more.

Regarding the front rim for a 1966 or 1967 West Coast Hornet: Can anyone tell me why the 1966 parts book calls for a part number 68-5548 and the1967 parts book 68-5558. .

It depends on which '66 Spares manual is being looked at. My second edition manual lists the WC rim as the same as the '67 rim, 68-5558. I have never seen an original rim stamped 68-5548.

Gary:
My 00-5126 1966 parts book which I thought was a 2nd edition book lists 68-5548 as the number for the front rim. What is the part number oy your 66 parts book? If it's different we should exchange copies so we each have 1 of each.
I purchased an NOS 68-5548 rim, I hope it fits.

My '66 parts book is the 2nd version with 68-5558.

When you get the 5548 rim, send me an image of the stampings. We can also compare spoke dimples.
