its the "washer" that goes between the bottom of the top yoke and top of the stem bearing seal.

#13 is actually the dust cover, and #15 are the "abutment rings", the book has them reversed. Also, there is only one of the dust covers, not 2 as indicated. The abutment rings go under the outer races when installed in the frame. The split stem nut passes through the dust cover ( I think you are calling it a washer)- doesn't tighten on it.It is .072" thick, or about 1/16 inch. I think all this was posted before in your other thread.

If your still running out of threads at the split stem nut, I suspect the abutment rings are not installed. I asked you about this, but you never answered. Bear in mind this nut has to bear on the top bearing inner race to "pre-load" the bearings, and any added spacers should only contact that surface.

yes you did mention this and i appreciate you going over it again. for some reason i havent been able to wrap my head around this. i will have to mark my manual with the corrections you gave me.

i also didnt understand what a split stem was. lol. doh. i get it now. time to take it apart once more!

thank you.

the problem is that the top yoke fouls the tank. since this "build" is just a mock up to create a roller to sell, i put this front end together with the parts found in a box. i did have 2 dust covers in there! and they were just washers i had on a shelf. i took them out and it helped with tank clearance a little. but as you say , i need to double check for the real abutment rings and find a proper dust cover.
