I know that these were omitted from later engines, and that the factory recommended that they be blanked off when the engine was rebuilt. My '72 parts book says, "Not required on later models."

Does anyone know when the factory stopped putting these in new engines? My engine number starts with KG, September of 1971. If the odometer is correct I doubt that the bottom end has ever been serviced. How likely is it that these tappet feed pipes are still in place?

Someone on TOL answered that the service bulletin was issued in October of '71.
I really should de-coke and renew gaskets and PR seals. I'll check to see if the pistons are over size, and trust that the mod was done if they are.

Question answered. I took off the cylinders and there are no tappet feed pipes. From the looks of the bearing caps there never were any.

Didn't they eliminate them in '70....I need to check my books???
if that was true then Wotan would never have had them?

Someone on TOL said the service bulletin came out in '71. Mine was built in late '71.
Looks like it never had them.
