Well, after closely following htown's startup procedure ( THANKS MUCH for that htown ) I can now proudly state that after a "prolonged rebuilding period" ( several years) my '70ish A65 has awoken from a looooong sleep.
Pretty sure this old bike hasn't been on the road for at least 30yrs. During the buildup I installed a spin-on type oil filter that was sourced from Ed V's site.
The question now is: since I only have the one filter at present, what filters have others found that will work well with this setup and are (hopefully) available at local parts stores?
Any information much appreciated.

Phil

Not sure what Ed V sells, maybe you could post a pic or the link or measurements?

For the "Norton-type" adapter sold here and there, I use NAPA Gold 1032 filters, as recommended by others here.

I have an oil filter from Ed V on the A10 with a HD filter (63810-80A). It is always interesting to go into a Harley shop and tell the parts department it is for a BSA Road Rocket when they ask what it is for.

Merry Christmas, Phil, and everybody ...

At the big NAPA store/distributor near me, I was able to get a "fleet discount" when I bought six of the 1032 filters, about 40% discount.

Craig, speaking of Harley dealers, when I had my Buell I would get totally ignored at the Harley dealer.

Craig, thanks for the input and yeah, I'd probably go out of my way to buy a filter at H-D just to hear them say: " BSA? what's a BSA?? "

I bought this adapter & filter assy from ED some time ago. In retrospect I remember mention made at the time of using H-D filters....likewise I'm also
remembering now that "Mr Mike" posted a very comprehensive thread on this subject....probably time to do "a bit more research" of older threads.
Kurt, good info on the fleet discount, I'll check that out.
Thanks again gents, appreciate it.

bodine, Nick.....Thanks for the info.
I've since located an old article by "Mr Mike" who posts on this Forum. It's about oil filter installation on old Brit Bikes
using the "Norton Type adapter". At the end he says:" I use EMGO 10-07700 for a black filter and 10-07800 for (chrome). You can also use Harley Davidson 63810-80."

That's THREE votes for the Harley filter.....!

I have a few Norton's and a couple of BSA's with the EV set up. I watch eBay and keep a few of the Harley filters on the shelf.

Jeff, eBay is my go-to place whenever I'm looking for anything that borders on "unobtainium"......ie: recently I was searching around for some old school Nippon Denso spark plugs with no luck. I finally decided to try eBay
and found them immediately, six ea. all NOS for $10 with free shipping!

O Reilly also sells a Wix filter which fits the Norton adapter, #51352. You can order them on their site for in-store pickup. Their local headquarters usual has them in stock here in Nashville.

A few years back I bought an adapter from one of the Norton suppliers to use a more common filter on the Norton filter base, internally threaded to fit the filter base and with a 3/4 by 16 thread on the outside. The 1348 NAPA oil filter(or the equivalent other brand) goes right on and can be found at parts stores everywhere.

Citroen 2CV filter also fit. That's what I use on my A65 'Norton-type' fitting.

Ha! Makes me want to ride the BSA over to the Harley dealer across the river. That way I can point when they ask the inevitable question.

But the Citroen 2CV parked outside would get them even more confused ;-)

Starfire, Citroen 2CV cars were not sold in the USA so no such low-cost filters here, for us.
As Norton also used those filters, the Norton dealers in the uSA had a high-price monopoly on them.

Well I'm glad I took the time to read this thread. I've been using the Wix 51352 filter (NAPA 1352) on my Norton for a long time. Just looked up the specs on both and a 51032 (NAPA 1032) is the same except the OD on the gasket is .040 smaller and overall it's a 1/2 inch taller. Not enough to worry about, and the 1032 is a lot more common than a 1352.

The 7013 is 2.5" high, the 1032 is almost an 1" taller if you have location restrictions
