Just got this from his wife

“Hi Wade,
This is Dicks’ wife Barb & we have met a few times at different rally's. Just wanted to let you know Dick is very ill. He has a brain tumor, not cancer; however it is the size of a grapefruit. He will be going into the hospital Dec 14 for a procedure to kill it; and it can go either way. Could you please post this info on Brit Bike so all his friends can read it because I don’t have email addresses for a lot of his friends. I only ask this so he may find good wishes, emails, or even phone calls to help him in this situation. I appreciate anything you could do. Email is : Dick Harris on Brit Bike; [email protected]; home phone: 585-343-4255.
He could go thru it with no issues, or this procedure could take him from us.
Thank you so much Wade,
Gratefully,
Barb Harris”

So here is wishing Dick a full recovery!!!!

Damn this is a rough one. Well Dick, if you happen to read this, I wish you the very best, and hope for you to pull through this without a problem. Merry Christmas, sir, you are a friend and an inspiration.

Talked to Dick just now, he sounds good and sounds ready to get this procedure done and get back on track with fettling and riding, so here's hoping and praying that it will go well and he'll be back at OVBSAOC and the other places we all get together ....

Anyone still riding an old Triumph into his 80's is tough enough to deal with this. Good luck Dick!

Hi Dick,

I still hope to meet you one day, so you need to stick around wink You have helped me quite a bit over the years and for that I am eternally grateful. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and may you come through this and return to riding and wrenching and hanging out with your friends here at BritBike and everywhere else.

Best Wishes

Dick - Good Luck on the upcoming medical outing! Modern medicine can save the day. Hell, I'm still here and riding in Florida, and also in my 80s. Take care and do what the doctors say. Bob & Corky Kent, Conneautville, PA - OVBSAOC #3

...hello Dick, hope you can confront that surgery in the best of the moods.
Sometimes the things are out of our hands so we depend on others wills and hands. Good luck with all that and get the best recovery.

I enjoyed meeting Dick at the OSMR, and was fascinated by him explaining HOW he modded his engine to a 270 degree. Get well my friend!

Mr Harris, you are and have been one of my motorcycle heroes for a long time now. I remember riding behind you and thinking you looked like an 18 year old on that bike. I also remember one thing in particular you said a long time ago when the group was discussing "tool kits" to carry along with you on the bike. You said and I'll never forget it " If you do your work in the garage.....you don't need to carry any tools".

I know you're going to take this on like a solider and my thoughts are with you and your family. Wishing you the best of luck and here's to a speedy recovery. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and for the gifts you've given me.

If there is ANYTHING I can do to help PLEASE just let me know.

Thinking of you sir........your friend in NC Gordon Gray

Just talked to Barb, Dick's wife, on the phone.

The procedure was done Friday Dec 14th, and it went very well, although there's still a long road to go. Because of the nature of the tumor (non-malignant but fed by its own blood supply), the way to get at it was to cut all the blood vessels leading to it, so that it would no longer grow, and the body could then "reabsorb" it without the surgeon having to go into the skull. That was successfully done just as planned, although because it had to be done without anaesthesia, it was very painful for Dick.

So there's a possibility now that the now-dead tumor could "swell" before it starts shrinking, and Dick has to stay in the neurological ICU so the doctors can monitor the size of the tumor as it breaks down. IF the swelling gets bad, the doctors would have to open the skull to relieve the pressure on the brain, and that is a dangerous operation. So everyone's hoping that won't be necessary - the 3 - 5 days after the operation will tell the tale, so it will be Thursday or Friday before Dick can hope to get out of the ICU into a recovery room, and anyone who has been in an ICU connected to tubes and monitors and people waking you up all around the clock to do tests on you knows that it will make you extremely grumpy to go through that, and Dick's no exception!

So continuing thoughts and prayers for Dick as he continues the fight, and for Barb who spends all day at the hospital with him and naturally is a bit exhausted. Barb's printing out Britbike posts for Dick since it's hard for him to get to a computer as you can imagine ....

Really REALLY looking forward to seeing Dick at the next rally!!

Lannis
