Anyone know off hand how many holes the '67 A67L headlight shell is supposed to have?

I believe he correct answer is Ammeter hole, rotary light switch(centered under meter) 2 warning lights for 1967 and 1 warning light for 1966.

I APOLOGIZE FOR THE USE OF CAPS. I CAN ONLY TYPE WITH MY RIGHT HAND SO USING THE SHIFT KEY IS BEYOND MY CAPABILITES.

Warning lights for 1967 are located on either side of the switch, but below the switch.

As they were hard to see, they were moved upward for 1968.

Some EARLY '67 bikes still had ONE warning light.

My '67 had but one indicator light, on the left, high beam indicator.

Thanks for all the input,....... Although it seems like with other topics on these bikes....... It depends on xxxx. The "mid" year changes (Monobloc to Concentric comes to mind), and then there is the Y bike conundrum !! I have a bunch of headlights to get rid of and one NOS complete headlight assembly has me focused on correct identification,...... If possible! I believe '67 was the last of the Rotary switch correct? This one has that rotary switch.

should only have 1 warning light for 67 and 68, the 69 designation models with the oil light switch used another warning light hole

KC, there are many types of 1967 shells.... I think 5 or 6 in total?

That includes Triumph & BSA models.

Some had a 88SA switch. some had a toggle switch, etc, etc

I stock some on my site, check them out to see some of the variations:

When making a statement, details are important Swede. If people have to ask, it's probably because you bungled it up. Always strive for excellence in everything you do and you will be better for it.

Im not sure where that statement is going....

To be honest I don't see how anything much past what CBS wrote is relevent to KC's problem. KC isn't saying heres what I got and I want this much for them, otherwise it would be re-directed to the buy-sell forum... But I think KC would have posted it there if that was the case, it seems to me that he has something that he doesn't want but wants to identify either a particular year's type or find out what he has got in the first place.... There is no harm in that.... I don't see how the comment above helps anyone (im going to be diplomatic and not say which of the above posts smile )

Personally, I've found alot of 'information" about these old bikes is often incomplete, or inaccurate, and leaves me with more questions about the issue. Now I've been searching on-line parts books looking for indicator lights or toggle switches for "66 & '67 A65s'- but no joy.

I have a very complete, very original (afaict) late 1966 thunderbolt. 16K miles showing, last registered in '82. Has AMAL grips, the right levers with choke, original horn mounting, petcocks and fuel lines are correct for the era, even has the rubber o-ring holding the plug to the light switch, but it crumbled when I messed with it. The thing is rough as a cob, every chrome piece is covered in rust, but paint looks like it would clean up great. Top end disassembled, missing pistons and tappets.

I've gathered all the parts to replace the bad chrome, other than the headlight.I suppose the purists would consider it a bitsa when that many things are replaced. Oh well.

The thing has a rotary switch and indicator light to the left- but parts books show no such indicator for '66 or '67.- in fact, '66 book shows to use abbreviation "T/R" for the thunderbolt, but the electrical section omits that- but does show "2/L", must be a misprint.

Like I said, more questions than answers.

In regards to K.C. question, a link was posted so folks can actually see the variations that where made for 1967 and to also shed light on an answer he is seeking.

I happen to know K.C. and he also knows my motivates and as well as many others.

Cheers

Bizarre !!! And not to prolong this thread, but he's right we know each other, no pimping required! And also for the record, IMHO, we could use more younger Guys like him.
Yes, I did intend to sell the thing, it's listed, just didn't want to Identify it and be wrong. How do threads get so screwed up??

That's quite a variety- impressive. Do you stock them all?

Maybe you can help me, I can't find an application for a '67 model that uses a toggle switch. You must know. Thanks in advance.

Also, are these the new- production Lucas shells?

My '67 has the rotary switch and one indicator light (main beam). I believe it is early '67, A65LA420. I believe my '66 was the same.

@triumphdave Shoot me an email, sales@classicbritishspares.com

K.C., the '67 headlights have a large "D" and small "D" for either the toggle switch and the 88sa rotary switch. A trained eye can spot the differences. If you need measurements let me know and I can provide that for you.

CBS is both a sponsor of the forum (I believe) and a helpful source of info.

Anytime he posts could be seen as linking to his business, and why not, as he pays to be here.

Surely everybody knows that, and would view his posts in such light?

That particular post, to my interpretation, was merely a quick way to illustrate the variety of examples that he knew of. I suppose he could have spent much more time to just post the images on their own, in which case I doubt it would have happened at all.

As for pimping, I suppose so, but it doesn't mean you have to buy from the pimp. I'm sure that many of us learn from pimp sites and then buy from disease-ridden eBay sites. An accessible trader like CBS is valuable these days, I can remember when there were quite a few in the UK but the number is shrivelling fast.

When I had a very difficult problem (to me with limited workshop facilities) the thread was "pimped" by Grintriumph, and it solved the issue.

OMG I've just pimped for Grin!
