For those of us in the USA....it is Thanksgiving Day.

So to that end.......

Happy Thanksgiving!

My duties have already started.....the smoker is coming up to temperature. Haven’t even thought about the deep fryer yet. I am cooking 2 turkeys for the family, 1 fried, 1smoked, and cornbread and sausage stuffing to go with the turkeys.

Enjoy your day!

One of these days, I'm going to try the fryer or smoker method. I've had smoked turkey legs before and they are fantastic.

Traditional bird and trimmings in this house today. Just finished stuffing and sewing up the bird, locally sourced from a small farm. Sweet potatoes, roasted Brussel sprouts and asparagus, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade cranberry sauce.....

One of my favorite holidays...the sin of Gluttony is forgiven!

Happy Thanksgiving,

Steve

This year is our first Thanksgiving in our own house after 41 years of marriage.

No "guilt trip" THIS YEAR if we don't have it at my mother-in-law's. place.

A very special Thanksgiving THIS YEAR, indeed !

And as a Brit---as I always say at dinner on Thanksgiving Day---This day is all about giving thanks to Englishmen for coming to America!

Dry rubbed, beer in the pan.
At 80 degrees, honey brushed on.
At 140 degrees, bacon laid and another coat of honey.
Staged smoking with strategically placed EnsmokeneatorAF hickory chip packs to burn in succession, circular fire for progressive and predictable burn!

Pic at the bacon added stage!

Just Fay and I at home this Thanksgiving day, as always ... our Family get-together with our children and grandchildren will be Saturday, today they're all off at their in-laws.

We all bring something each year, this year I'm baking my Grandmother's roll recipe, and Fay is baking pies (apple, pecan, and coconut).

And yes, I AM thankful that we're all still above ground and even ABLE to express our thanks for the year ....

I'm thankful this day for my friends, for being able to travel, and for The lovely Miss C, who is crazy enough to put up with me!
Being in Europe, I'm missing Thanksgiving... But I'm eating my way around Rome currently. Believe me, all is not lost!

Cheers to all our friends, wherever you may be. I wish you & yours well this holiday season.

I'm thankful that all 3 of my children and their families live just a few minutes away so I can see them often.
My youngest daughter has the largest house so we have all our family gatherings there, it's a 5 minute walk for me and the missus.
I brought the turkey carcass home and there was enough meat left on it for the dogs to have a little feast of their own. good times

I ate too much... But had great quality time with the family. And trailered my 91 chevy truck back home as I havent found a trans yet and the guy wanted it out of there.... So I did accomplish something anyway...

I had 16 of my 18 (including me) home for Thanksgiving, my 2 oldest granddaughters were working and didn't make the trip.

We had numerous feasts next door at my younger sister's house, down the block at my niece's house, and a couple of the better Mexican restaurants my oldest daughter likes to visit when she's in town. The family feasts were quite amazing, (no food photos, sorry), 40-45 people at a time, kids running all over the place from house to house, out on our trampoline and playscape, bicycles & scooters everywhere in the driveway.

Had 3 of my 4 grandsons, and my youngest son (the big one on the right in the photo), camping out in the RV in the back yard; took over an hour to get them to stop giggling and fidgeting, and get to sleep.

The topper of the weekend was an hour-long ride around town with the wyfe, 4 of my 5 kids, a daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter on various bikes (I took the '66 Bonneville which started first kick all three times starting was required). Absolutely beautiful weather, and incident-free ride (that's always nice).

The bittersweet point of the weekend was the send-off of my middle son and his family to Germany (Army) for 2-3 years. He's a MedEvac Blackhawk helicopter pilot.

Good on you, GP. A family to be proud of ! My number one son was a Choc for two and a half years. Enough soldiering for him, he reckoned. Number two son is a sergeant Reg, Arty, currently doing a WO11 course ! Seems to get a bit upset because his grandfather was RAN and I tell him how naval gunnery surpassed the army !
