Three days on the road, half day tomorrow. Just rolled over the 1000 mile mark.

Day 1 stinking hot, day 2 totally rained out and yes Nick, day 3 cold.

Hey Britbikers...apologies for not sharing rally updates on the forum. Will try to do better going forward, phone permitting.

Arrived Monday, met with Shane after arriving Sydney. Shane arranged bikes for a few and we left the next day for a 3 day ride to the rally site in Victoria. Ride started with Shane, Steve, I on bikes, Pete & Trevor driving support and extra loaner bikes. Met with Gary & Debbie Roper from Oregon at day 1 pre-lunch stop. Overnighted near Tathra.
The ride was beautiful...nice country roads and scenic coastal views. Fish & chips lunch in Batemans Bay. Then more beautiful riding to Tathra.

The next day was to be up and over the Snowy Mountains, and unfortunately the weather decided to turn wet and cold. I opted to ride shotgun with Peter. The clouds were low hanging, the rain cold and the mountains and high plains beautiful.

More to come later, we are off for a ride to see more of Victoria.

Jim

The 2018 rally is over, and everybody has dispersed.

The Victorian club did a fantastic job of organising things, and we all had a great time.
Looking forward to Jim posting some of the myriad pictures he took once he arrives home; not just the rally but some of the scenery as well.

I caught up with some old friends and made some new ones. Our travelling companions were excellent company, the weather was excellent, and there was a nice mixture of rides.

Currently in Albury on the way home - back in the motel after a superb Thai meal and a couple of Peronis, and should be home tomorrow afternoon.

Life is good!

We also had a great time travelling with the blokes from NSW. Shane and I became friends climbing to the Pinnacles on the Grampians, Trevor and I sang Zappa songs together, Eric and I discussed old Indian mechanics, and Steve enlightened me regarding the proper way to fettle a bike for cross country rides. Seems we have a lot in common, not just BSAs. Shane and I were tractor riders and like the same music! The rally had something for everyone: farm equipment, fast motorcycles, scenery, and rooms for the criminally insane. Strange, they tried to get us to go into all the little rooms with the straight jackets. Good thing I didn't try them on or I'd still be there! The teas were always coming, I was able to throw a boomerang that actually returned to me, and we learned about Cooper's brews. Thanks to all the guys: Steve, Shane, Trevor, Mark, Peter, Eric, Jim and the friends that kept coming around to talk. We shared the cabin that was both the nearest to the venue tent and usually the center of attention at the rally due to the antics of the boys from NSW. I rode Thomas' Yamaha to the Great Ocean Road after the rally yesterday and found myself on the ferry from Queenscliff to Sorento as the sun went down. Riding back up to Narre-Warren in the darkness was interesting to say the least for this right hand side of the road rider. I'll post some pics after we return to the states. "It's good to be us!"

I think what really made this a standout rally for me was the trip down and our little hippie commune next to the beer tent.
We all tend to get into our little rally rut where the same group travels together, then the same group hangs out together at the rally and you have a few beers and a bit of a yarn with a couple of new people.
Getting to spend time travelling with Jim, Gary and Debbie was great. We must have all hit it off, because nobody got knifed or shot.

Catching up with our interstate friends is always great, and old friends from far-off places is a rare treat, but that's only ever swapping a few yarns and a bit of banter over a beer or a meal.

It was great overall, and now I have the pleasure of months of anticipation in advance of the Cotswolds next year.

Well the L300 groaned it's way into the yard yesterday evening with just enough daylight to get Shane's bikes off the trailer.
First thanks should go to the BSAOA Vic for Hosting the event, well done and clockwork precision from a participants point of view.
Next is Shane for coming up with the musket ball idea which sure beat the usual overnight rush down, we arrived feeling great , ready for serious BSA fun having already made 3 new friends.
Then our cabin guets Garry, Deb & Jim get a gong for being outstandingly good company as was Peter ( although he stayed off site with President Wilson ) they really made this rally a stand out event for me.
The host country sharing a cabin with a guest or two should be mandatory & I hope we can replicate this in 2023.
It is way too easy to remain in our comfortable rally clique and living with people for a week really allows you to get to know them.

For those not asleep yet, I went to the Bendigo swap on the way home, as did several others , ( to replace the parts that fell off on the rides ) then stopped off overnight at Mark's home on the way back, only to find Tony already there.
So thanks to Mark as well, his 2019 rally piggy bank is already starting to fill.

Thanks. That's the first large-scale picture upload so far.
There are a few shots of the Britbike reprobates we managed to round up posing in front of the rally banner towards the end of the album

Day 3. Boys day out. Visited an agricultural museum (Rupanyup) and a site of an early bulk grain storage and a freezing works with (very) large engine that drove generators and ammonia compressors (Murtoa).

Line up of bikes at Rupanyup.

Large horizontal engine at Murtoa. Video- Firing up one of the large horizontal engines. I see Trev (BSA_WM20) and Jim (JiminNC) taking it all in.

Wow... what a rally!
Wow... jet lag is real!
Wow... I am seriously tardy posting here.... blaming it on work, Thanksgiving holiday, jet lag and more work.

This weekend I plan to get busy with some posting and photo sharing but do want to add my comments and thanks to all who made this rally the amazing event that it was.

Thanks to the Victoria Club... everything was better than awesome. Still playing over in my mind what it must have taken for you to put this rally together. Thanks for doing and thanks for being so welcoming. Waking every morning to that view just made each day start off on a fantastic note.

Shane - thank you for the loan of your A65...was a great to ride, and the perfect bike for me. The ride down was amazing. I explain to folks when we made our first stop for tea at the Jervis Bay over look where we met up with Gary & Debbie (not sure who had me close my eyes on the over look approach), but when I opened my eyes to that spectacular view... and the words "holy sh.." came out - was a "you had to be there" moment. The pictures I have do not capture that view. This was just one of the many such moments on the 3 day ride down. Thanks for planning that for us. I wish I had a Go Pro to grab more images, and I wish I had the time to make the return trip to Sydney with you all. I cannot thank you enough for making me feel so welcome... both you and Cheryl.

Trevor, Steve, Peter, was a pleasure meeting you all, and hope we meet again. You all were excellent traveling companions. Thanks for having me along, carting my stuff, choosing excellent beer, and for being accommodating cabin mates, and welcoming me into your NSW BSA band of hooligans and misfits :-) I felt right at home. Gary & Debbie... great to have you join our caravan... and last but not least, Mark who joined us at the rally site, making the gang of 8 at Halls Gap

Great to meet a lot of Brit Bike folks for the first time - including. Brizzo (Ray), Ian, Peter, Mike, and others I know I am forgetting, and Brit Bikers I have met before Boomer (Bill & Marilyn), Alan, Juergen, and still probably others I am forgetting.

Will share more yarns featuring everyone later on, but for now wanted to not leave folks hanging too long, in case was some concern about whether I made it back..

Thanks Ray for getting pics up.... great to see and I look forward to adding some of what I have to the forum too.

Jim
