The day started with a simple head gasket replacement... but I started thinking and here we are:

Can anyone recommend a good machine shop near Ohio/Michigan/Indiana, etc to do a cylinder head rebuild? Valves, seats, guides, springs, keepers.

Also, is it best to order individual items from someone like SRM or does anyone make a good kit of everything?

Thanks

If western Pennsylvania is in your purview, you may want to consider Rask Cycle. They did an excellent job on a TR5T head I sent. They also supply all the parts.

Send it to Ed V at E&V Engineering in Michigan, one of the sponsors of this site. He does a phenomenal job.

You do not want a kit. Until you pull the guides you do not know if you need oversize. Original seats are reverse tapered. New seats are cylindrical. The shop will have to bore the head to the seat (minus the interference). Keepers and spring retainers rarely go bad unless you are looking to get lightened ones there is no need to replace them. Unless you plan to run it near red line a lot the springs are probably fine. Measure the free height and compare to the factory specifications.

Thanks, DMadigan.

I'm going to send the head to Ed at E&V and I'm sure I will be very happy with his work. His reputation is very good around here.

The bike is simply a joy ride machine; no racing, no red line, etc.

Just received my cylinder head from Ed V. Fantastic work and I am very pleased; price was very fair as well.
