I can't quite recall - is it one single row and one double row deep groove ball bearing.
Or is the double row one in the brake drum, and the hub uses 2 of the single row ones (??)
All Nortons up to before the Mk3 Commando use these. (1930's+ anyway)

Didn't you ask this before ?

The bearings are just common industrial items, in metric sizes, hence the low cost.
Or are you after the raw bearing codes. ?
6203 and 4203 are what comes to mind ?
Consult the parts book if in doubt...

Hi Rohan
It's one single row & one double row on the sprocket side.
Need the nos as sometime in the past someone has replaced the bearings with non original. Result is that once I tighten the wheel nuts onto the drum, the wheel is difficult to rotate.
Can't remember if I have requested this info before.

Wrong order of assembly, shortened or missing spacer is much more likely than different bearings as the metric ones used are so common.

You asked about wheel bearings before, but didn't say why ?
I too doubt the bearings would be wrong - but the spacers and axle have to lock the whole assembley tight when tightened up,
without causing anything to bind or lock up.

Do you have the speedo drive on that back wheel ?
If the spacers are not correct for that, it can cause these sort of problems.
There is a 'top hat spacer' through the centre of the speedo drive - that is essential. ?

I have a similar back wheel assembly that could be accessed to photo the spacers and speedo drive, if it would help.
Better if we see your bits first.... ?

Even with the correct spacer you often get this tightening up initially. The right hand bearing is positively clamped into its recess via the retaining ring. The outer race of the left hand (double row) one does not bottom into its recess to allow for slight manufacturing variation. The longitudinal location is via the central spacer.

Hence when the spindle is initially tightened this pulls the left hand bearing into the recess slightly. This can cause a feeling of tightness as the outer finds its own position. Normally this tightness disappears once the wheel is spun a few times, or indeed the bike is ridden for a mile or so.

If it doesn't there is something wrong.
