Crikey. its been since October!!

Forgive me - I have put modern materials in the 71 Thunderbolt.

Whats been done:

Head rebuilt by Ed V - New hardened seats to go with my Black diamond valves.
- Intake manifold ported for a 32mm carb.
- Steel inserts installed in the exhaust ports. (This is a really NICE mod. The pipes slip in and don't leak!)

Cylinder barrel - Nicasil liner installed by USCHROME in Wisconson to match ......
- 9-1 angled deck pistons with chrome top ring from Ed V.

Carb - New 32mm Premier AMAL Mk1. - 250 main jet
- 106 needle jet
- 20 idle jet
- needle clip in second groove.
- NGK BP7ES plugs.

Trying to get some longevity out of the top end for long trips.
Primary is still a QPD belt drive with a Norton still clutch and Barnett plates cut to fit. I need to look but I think I've got about 20k on the original belt.

Thing pulls like a freight train - really impressive and smooth - no flatspots while accelerating. And the sound is more like the Firebird above 5000 rpms coming on the main jet. thumbsup

I think that's a great way to subtly update an A65 for long trips. Proper carburetor, no real changes to the appearance, but taking advantage of modern materials and techniques and people who know what they're doing.

It'll be great to see that bike on the road again along with the old "Star" and the Triple. BSA Heaven, that's what you're in! No apologies required to ANYone!

With 61,000 miles on them, and without me asking, Ed said that my exhaust ports were beat up pretty badly. I was having problems getting the LH one to seal properly . My solution was to cram beer can shims and RTV between the head and the pipe. So he suggested steel inserts pressed into the exhaust ports with a snug clearance (10 thou) to make em snug again.
I said heck yeah. My stock pipes slipped in nicely I sealed up with some GE5050 aluminum RTV and WALLA - no leaky ports.

I believe Ed bored the exhaust ports so the the steel inserts (sleeves) would interference fit with the head. But you can call him.
Ed V does quality work and will tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree. I really appreciate Ed V.

Everything is buttoned up at the moment.

Now this was only about 10 months or so ago that all these nice mods done by well known experts in the field were done.

I refuse to believe (it's easy, trust me!) that something seriously bad has gone wrong with any of these mods in this short time.

I too am curious as to the "noise" on the recent TSMR
Glad you got home without problems. Any input, comments on the Triple you rode?

So now you have the bike which BSA should have built in the first place. I assume that it has been modified to oil properly like a Triumph, maybe even filtered like your triple.
